Gas and Diesel cans

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone figured out a way to get the fuel out of the Blitz can faster? It seems to take forever to empty a 5 gallon can. I was thinking of drilling a hole in the side opposite of the drain so it would drain faster but do not know what to use to plug the hole when not in use. The self-venting drain really is slow and I am trying to get the cans to drain faster. I have 11 gallon gas and diesel tanks on my machine but when I top them off at a job I would like it to go faster. Anyone have any ideas?

Never had a problem with mine, just open the vent cap and it would pour out fast.

CA. outlawed the cans with vent caps and went with some worthless enviro style that was suppose to keep the fumes inside but took forever to empty, perhaps TX went that way too.

If so do what I did, take a drive to AZ and buy a few there, I bought 3 diesel and 3 gas. I still have two of each and if there was a legal way to ship to you I would do so for a few bucks each.

Drilling a hole will do it but you would need to be sure it is air tight when not pouring. Go to an auto store and find the rubber plugs with a double middle, drill the hole so they snap in. Or take a couple out of the door of your truck and use those.

For diesel I use the metal military type Jerry Cans with the big diesel screw in nozzle. For gasoline I use fuel jugs like what you see the motor cross racers using. I get mine from Summit Racing They drain super fast and both styles of cans have big handles so that you can chain them down to your rig in case they want to walk off on you.

How much time are we talking here? I mean this is not Nascar, and with those 11 gallon tanks, you are not filling them all that much.

I use Scribner racing jugs. They come with the vent plugged per CA law, but nothing is to stop you from poking a small hole in them. You could drill a small hole and then use a golf tee to plug it when not in use.

I've got the self venting jugs aswell. Hated them until I learned how to use them. They empty just fine as long as you don't over tilt it and you must make sure that the nozzle points straight off the can, and not off to the side.

5G jug takes apprx. 3 minutes to empty, at max.

Yeah, but 2 diesel and 2 gas- 5 gallon cans to top off my diesel and gas tanks on the machine ends up taking a while. I do not have the room on the trailer for larger tanks or I would buy larger tanks that is why I am asking to empty them faster as on some jobs I am paid by the piece of equipment and only have so much time to do them so the faster I am the more I make. Maybe next year on my new trailer, I will get larger tanks or two sets with valves between them.
