alternatives to chlorine

Question

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with chemicals other than chlorine for removing mould and mildew my chemical rep has suggested a product called moss kill which has the chemical alky dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride as far as i can tell the longer dwell time and cost seems to be downside however i thought it might be handy to have an safer alternative to chlorine in certain conditions eg: windy days sensitive plants

Well, it's didn't hurt and I didn't get an infection. So I guess it worked as advertised. :)

As a mildecide/housewash? I have no clue. In the bottles I buy it in it works out to about $600 US/gallon at 3%.

Dave,

A good percarb will do the job if you are looking for a non chlorine option.

Dwell will be longer, and slightly higher agitiation may be required in some cases, but it is effective.

Sun Brite Supply in Lawrenceville Ga. USA carries Safe Wash and EFC-38. Both are very good, but the EFC-38 has a caustic added to give it more punch.

Shipping to Aus. will probably be prohibitive, but I'm sure you can find a local source.
