Now I'm a newbie to FTA

OK I need some help with a FTA reciever. I know nothing about these things I just bought a Captive Works 600S Premium. I do not have the reciever yet so I need to learn before I ruin the box when it gets here. I currently have Dishnetwork and was hoping to be able to get some additional "free" programming...ok techies lay it on me....

FTA = Free To Air satelite reciever

It will recieve the Dish Network programing for free from what i undertand.I'm a Direct TV Hi DEF TIVO kinda guy.
