racechaser 64 Report post Posted November 15, 2006 Anybody here ever rebuild air tools? Like impact wrenches and ratchets? I'm pretty mechanically savvy...but have never done anything like that before. I have a craftsman and an Ingersoll Rand impact that won't spin when you turn on the air. I Want to tear them apart and rebuild them but want some advice like website forums or any books that someone with experience might reccomend. danster 15 Report post Posted November 18, 2006 All you can do is tear it apart and take a looksy what inside. Most of the time its just crap in the passageways. If that don't work you can take it to a repair man that has all the seal and parts. If not well, might as well chuck it and get a new one. Most of the time its not worth the trouble to fix if you have to start replacing parts. A good impact, like the new Ingersolls will set you back a couple of hundreds but you will have it for at least 10 years plus without trouble. Paul Kassander 26 Report post Posted November 19, 2006 I have rebuilt them before they are suprisingly easy. Just open it up carefully because there is usually a spring that goes flying or a small ball. Most of the time it just need to be cleaned up and lubed to remove the moisture and corrosion.
