0 PressurePros 248 Report post Posted April 4, 2007 Efflorescence happens when salts in brick, stone or masonry get dissolved in water and then come to the surface. Those salts harden into calcium deposits. Most guys try to blast them off and they drive water into the masonry and then make the problem worse. You need to dissolve them with the right chemicals. Degreaser (high pH) doesnt work. You need acids often in some combination of oxalic, phosphoric, hydrochloric or hydroflouric. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

0 Andy W 14 Report post Posted April 6, 2007 How do you get elfourescent residue off of brick? You can usually get efflorescence from brick by using a hyrochloric/muratic based cleaner. It is caused by moisture behind the brick pushing salts to the surface. Wet brick lightly, spray 10 to 20% solution and rinse. It may take several applications to remove.
