Butyl on a canvas awning?

Recommended Posts

A very reliable source told me that butyl based cleaners work well when brushed on and rinsed with low pressure on canvas awnings...Has anyone ever used this method or have an opinion on whether it would work well? Of course I will test an area first...just wondering if anyone's ever done it. Thanks folks.

When I first got into awning cleaning, I practice on an old canvas awning on an old motor home. I 've used ARS products (Fabric Cleaner) with brush and handle. The brisle on the brush should be at least 1/2" to 1" in length.

Cleaning canvas will look dirty when using a cleaning agent and water. You must clean the top and underside of the canvas.

You see how clean it can be when the canvas is completely dry.

None of the commercially prepared awning cleaners I use contain butyls. Sometimes I add a few chems to spice up the mix a bit, but again, not a butyl based product.

Like Rod said, test first.
