Price
reed replied to Russell Cissell's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Just stopped by, saw this thread was still active. Russ started this in 05. WOW. interesting to see how prices are gonna be with this economy. Hope all are well. reed -
I do a "trade off"/bartering if you want to call it bartering. I redo a deck, about 900sf of wood every two years in return for a key to 248 acres of land to hunt on. GOOD TRADE in my book. reed

What do you like least about wood care?
reed replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I vote OTHER, I hate call backs stating there are several boards that didn't take the stain. When I go check it out, it is only the difference seen when on piece of wood is heart wood and the other is sap wood. You just can't explain enough to customers the difference in wood densities and stain appearance. -
Who's Ready

Readyseal $
reed replied to PetersonDecks's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I thought the price would go up this year. I will be raising my prices again also. Doing more maintenance decks these days than new ones. -
It is the first link, the second one is the organization trying to do the right thing. reed

On my third deck already and am booked till the end of May. Just need the weather to cooperate. This time of year is all iffy on the weather. Tornado time. We are lucky that the hail hasn't started yet.

WTW Ipe Red Cedar
reed replied to Proclean's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I really like that color. I always thought that the red cedar was perfect for the IPE, or around here, Brazillian Ironwood. -
7-25 year guarantee
reed replied to hack's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
They don't strip either. If your deck has a prior stain on it they don't strip, but clean and put their silicone crap on it. Here in the St. Louis area they have quite a few BBB actions. Plus, they are way over priced, almost double of what you and I would charge. Product was developed for concrete overpasses, not wood. Say away from this stuff and discourage it's use on wood whenever you can. MHO. -
Cedar deck with aluminum Spindles
reed replied to krpalex's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'm with Jim. Not necessary to mask these. As stated, just keep them wet and you should be good to go. Also, when you neutralize be sure to rinse the spindles. They will sometimes have residue of the brightner on them when it dries. I always keep a rag damp with mineral spirits and wipe each spindle as I roll on the stain. This will get off any ReadySeal and residue from you brightner. reed -
There is a Sparkle Wash in my area. Way underbids anyone else here. That's all I can say in an open forum about this.
