Cleaning hydrolic oil from brick and fiber cement siding
Beth n Rod replied to mike movila's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Hope this helps... http://www.diedrichtechnologies.com/architectural-specialty-cleaners/aspir-solv-safe-solvent-cleaner Rod -
For the relative few we have done, we never left any chemical behind in this manner. I will let others who do roofs regularly give their opinions and suggestions. Rod

Cleaning hydrolic oil from brick and fiber cement siding
Beth n Rod replied to mike movila's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Brick is very porous and most likely, you will not get out all of the stain. There will be a shadow of the oil that is nearly impossible to remove. Rod -
Rust spots that appear after house wash in the soffit

Could also be a mud-daubers nest (wasps). Soft rinse is all I use in this case. Rod -
seems to be a shortage of oxalic acid

Prices are so similar that whoever has the cheaper shipping (is closer and quicker) is the better bet. Beth -
This should raise a few hackles ...

Gravity being the biggest enemy in that plan, I would just grind/sand the rail caps. Save the stripper for the floor. Rod -

Armstrong Clark deck

Great way to expound on that one Rick. That is true. My intent was to help direct the inquirer to where they could find oxalic acid commonly until they are ready to buy in quantity. At that point, bulk would be the most cost effective. Rod- 13 replies

Wish that were the case in my area. I have many customers who have been splash and dashed by bleach bandits who continually leave bleach all over the siding to not only oxidize the surface but become the progenitor of the molds return. When bleach breaks down into it's basic elements, it becomes the food on which the mold feeds and grows back. Not only that, it becomes more resistant to bleach. I have had houses that required way too much then I normally use just to get the stuff to turn brown. Still have to brush it to remove the residue especially in those types of vinyl siding that have the long groove in it. (hate those). Rod

A brightener/Neutralizer can't hurt in most cases. Many deck maintenance cleaners are formulated with oxalic acid. Rod- 13 replies

Exterior gutter cleaning
Beth n Rod replied to mike movila's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Sometimes, we encounter gutters that have been neglected severely and require direct application of cleaner where other times the house wash cleaning mix we use does the trick. Brushing is still required either way. Rod -
If you are using bleach in your mix to wash.....rinse thoroughly. Residue of bleach breaks down the surface of siding causing it to become chalky over time with subsequent wet conditions (humidity, rain, etc.) that can reactivate that residue. Rod

Strippers! Which ones are making you money?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I can't answer for others, but for us it is for 2 reasons. In the U.S., making your own makes you the manufacturer and without proper D.O.T. licensing and HAZMAT regulations in place, it becomes a liability situation. Other than that, it is for the convenience of being able to give that headache to someone else. I enjoy being able to pass the scales knowing I am not in violation doing so. The products we purchase and use also support the businesses that sell them and I believe in that. Rod
