My good friend died suddenly on x-mas morning
Beth n Rod replied to John T's question in The Club House
We're very sorry for your loss John. I know he will be very missed. Beth -
Welcome to TGS. While we are glad you found us here, this question has been asked many times before. Grab a cup of coffee, close yourself in for a few weeks and help yourself to use the search feature. Going into business requires a significant investment of time and the majority of it should be spent on research. Time to hit the topics: Business-Accounting, Payroll and taxes, Business Management License requirements, Insurance coverage requirements, The Clean Water Act., O.S.H.A., E.P.A., D.O.T. regulations....just to get started. Once you have these understood, then you can get to the basics of what machine, what chemicals, etc. Rod!~

I don't have a problem with videos, you tube etc. But that link went to a chat. Beth

Ron, go back and read your PM. You post links all the time to pull traffic off of here and move it to a chat or to another BBS or whatever. We talked about that. ONE per day. I am getting complaints from both members and staff. It feels and looks like SPAM. It's not like you are posting links to say....news or articles on a 3rd party web site (for example The Washington Post or Time Magazine or whatever). They either go to your BBS, or another BBS, or a chat you host, or something like that..... Beth

You are very kind to support the site. :) I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday! Beth

REMEMBER - as one moderator just reported and pointed out - one outbound link per day please....

We got slammed. Still getting a few light flurries this morning. Last night around 7pm it measured 20" here. I'm pretty sure we topped off at about 22". I've lived in Maryland all my life and it seems like we get one of these about every 7 years, but normally it is not until January or February. I have never seen this much snow the week before Christmas in Maryland. Beth :cup:

Merry Christmas John to you and your family!!!! Beth

To me the term Happy Holidays seems like a way to be politically correct, when no one wants to offend someone who is not Christian. Personally, I always say Merry Christmas. If someone replies they are Jewish for example I simply then wish them a Happy Hanukkah. No harm done. I once sent out Christmas Cards without a second thought to who was getting them. I sent one to a Jewish friend, and got a Hanukkah card back in return, which I displayed with my Christmas cards, since it came from the heart of the person sending it with the warmest of wishes. So I mean no offense when I say with great joy, MERRY CHRISTMAS! Beth

I would not let myself feel bumped by the term 'Happy Holidays'. There are so many religions that have some sort of significance and celebration in the November, December and January months that the term became an all encompassing and inclusive one so that no one was left out. I understand that as Americans, we have our favorites and it can feel like Christmas is being crowded out by all the others as Americas' ethnicity grows and the cultural integration spreads throughout our nation. But I keep in mind that we began as a nation of immigrants and it is this foundation which helped to grow our nation. We keep Christmas in our hearts and that is what is important. Christ never meant anything of his teachings to be exclusive of anyone, but to be shared by those who would accept it and passed on to others who wanted to experience it. Hence the term 'fishers of men'. Here is a list in case anyone is interested, of the holidays celebrated throughout the year all over our world: Ethnic and Religious Cultural Holidays, Celebrations, and Festivals *Merry Christmas* :lghohoho: Rod!~

Quite possible that even though you didn't get any direct application of chems into the pond, there is no doubt that water from the process got into it some other way perhaps by flow of the land. take some pH test strips and check it out. The water will be +10 alkaline still if this is the case. If not, something else was the cause. Rod!~

Deck Vents
Beth n Rod replied to Tonyg's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Tony, None of what has been proposed is going to help with air flow as wind blows and creates vortexes. Swirling and turning. The deck is built into a "L" corner of a house creating a null zone. The wind will not be able to reach more than a couple of feet under the deck effectively. --->This is the best way to solve the moisture issues: keep it from remaining under the deck. To do this, you must remove all the deck floor boards, create a substructure to support a sill drain system made of corrugated fiberglass that drains to one side away from the house and then is diverted out from under the deck to a french drain 10'-12' from the deck to discharge. Sealers on the wood and vents in the skirt are only expensive and ineffective little bandages on a severe issue with moisture retention. I understand that this is a more expensive option but it it the correct option. The water must be kept from collecting under the deck and contributing to the rot and decay of the skirt and the dynamic flux of the deck itself caused by excessive moisture content followed by extended drying periods where any topical sealers will fail everytime. John, he's in our prayers. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult this must be on you both. You have not failed as a father or a husband. You are right there with your wife and child, doing what you need to with them. I know this is not much of a consolation tight now, but I am sure they appreciate it. Hang in there, keep praying, and remember that all pastors/priests make hospital calls and there is one on staff too. I'm sure they would come and hold prayers with you. God bless you and your family. Beth -
Deck Vents
Beth n Rod replied to Tonyg's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
There's flimsy cheap lattice, and there is expensive, thick, durable lattice that is very nice. We prefer that, and also around here where everyone has a homeowners association, white vinyl lattice is not always an option..... Beth :cup: :cup: -
