Let a new IPE deck weather before staining?
Beth n Rod replied to flyboy320's topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
Yes, 3-6 months helps to open the pores and allow for better adhesion and penetration of a finish. Rod!~ -

Strip this deck
Beth n Rod replied to ValleyPressureWashing's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Asphalt? Bad news, hd-80 will harm it. Pre-wet and rinse regularly. Concrete, no problems. Rod!~ -

seals/stains
Beth n Rod replied to Visionzlandscapes's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Perhaps some have forgotten where they came from and what it took to get to where they are now or perhaps maybe they had the money to just bypass all the start up stuff and go straight for the professional equipment. IDK, but I can remember one of the funniest times I ever had was an impromptu race to seal a deck by a neighbor (asian of some decent). Decks were pretty much the same in size from the footprint that I could tell. The guy was already in the process when I arrived and started setting up next door (townhouse configuration). Well, I loaded up a pump up sprayer and started applying. The guy comes over and in a thickly asian accent asks; "what that? Pumpup? Hah! pumpup hahaha...me use rolla (roller)" I just shrugged my shoulders and smiled and went back to work. Well, a little while later, the wife came into service and they are running all over the deck applying what looked like a Behr stain (almost orange and semi transparent). You know the saying, slow and steady wins the race? I was applying to the spindles and back padding also using a spray shield cause it was a little windy and making steady progress applying a solid Duron Maxwood brown stain the customer had ordered. A couple hours later, I was wrapping up and looked to see how far the neighbor had gotten, he and his wife went inside and still hadn't finished the rails for the steps or the stairs themselves. The outside of the spindles were not done and the guy was looking out at me and he and the wife were bickering inside. Hah! pumpup! i won. Rod!~ -
I can see it now...Rick holding it in his arms like cradling a new born child....that is until he pops that cap. Then it becomes like an addict looking for a fix and when the cold fluid rushes down his throat, you see a smile come and then the satisfaction of knowing he got to see the bottom of every bottle in that picture. Rod!~

I remember sitting in my office, hearing the news on the radio and it was right before a sales meeting. I sent text messages to Rod's nextel, he was in the chiropractor. I knew 4 people down in the Pentagon, thankfully none were killed. I knew two people who were supposed to be in the twin towers who weren't. We all went into the sales meeting, and were out in about 5 minutes, no one could discuss business. Then I remember getting three different dismissal times for the schools in email notices (our schools have an alert list) and on radio. The office I was in closed at that point and sent everyone to deal with their kids and to go home and watch the news. Beth
