Thanks for your understanding. Sorry the message was not delivered to your liking, but to be honest I didn't think it would be a problem. Have a great evening. :) Beth p.s. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/gadgets-gizmos-pc-help/3866-basic-how-tos-bbs.html#post33969 There used to be a video on this as well, but Mike K. seems to have taken it off his you tube channel.

  10. Just got this in email, and thought it might be helpful Beth ---------------------------------------------------------------- SBA Expands Eligibility for 7(a) Loans To Spur Recovery Opportunities for Small Businesses WASHINGTON – More small businesses will be eligible for U.S. Small Business Administration-backed loans, meaning greater access to much-needed capital in this tough economy, as a result of a temporary alternate size standard for the agency's largest lending program. SBA’s alternate size standard for its 7(a) loan program will go into effect early next week through Sept. 30, 2010. As a result of the temporary change, more than 70,000 additional small businesses – including auto and RV dealerships, auto industry suppliers and others – could be eligible to apply for SBA 7(a) loan. “This is just one more step we are taking to make sure small businesses have access to capital to keep their doors open and employees working during these tough economic times,” SBA Administrator Karen Mills said. “We have seen signs that small businesses that are just outside the traditional 7(a) size standard are being shut out of the conventional lending market. This temporary change will help those businesses weather these tough times and help move our nation closer to economic recovery.” The temporary 7(a) loan size standard will parallel the standard for the agency’s 504 Certified Development Company loan, and will allow businesses to qualify based on net worth and average income. The net worth for the company and its affiliates can’t be in excess of $8.5 million and average net income after federal income taxes (excluding any carry-over losses) for the preceding two completed fiscal years can’t be more than $3 million. The alternate size standard is available at the offices of The Federal Register today and will be published as an interim final rule early next week. The temporary change to the 7(a) loan size standard is not unprecedented. SBA took similar actions in 1993, as a result of the recession of the early 1990s, and again in 2005 as part of a program aimed at helping small businesses in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. This change also means more small businesses can take advantage of benefits made possible through the Recovery Act. On March 16, the SBA implemented two key provisions of the Recovery Act that raised the guarantee on 7(a) loans to 90 percent and reduced fees for borrowers. Since then, the agency has seen average weekly 7(a) loan volume increase by more than 25 percent and new SBA loans made by nearly 450 lenders who had not made loans since October 2008. For more information about SBA’s revisions to its small business size standards, visit Small Business Administration - Size Standards and click on “What’s New about Small Business Size Standards.”
  11. Newbie questions

Oh god, I just had a thought. Somebody quick, give me some wrenches and teflon tape! How about a surface cleaner with rotating nozzles? What a monster that would be! oh, sorry, back on topic, what Joe Ortiz said is good  Rod!~
  12. Opacity. The higher the opacity the greater the protection from UV rays. Semi-transparents are lower in opacity vs solid stains which are totally opaque. The rest is like others have posted in addition to aesthetics and personal preference. Rod!~
  13. Sprayer for AC

Not saying your way doesn't work or incorrect, just know from experience the mits are not always feasible, they leave behind some fuzz and piles, and most of all, I hate getting splinters with stain on them. OUCH. As for the original question, a pump sprayer will work fine but overspray is an issue. Pick up a couple of stain pads instead of brushes for application purposes and skip the sprayer if you do not want to deal with overspray and spontaneous combustion issues associated with tarps and plastic if you do not understand the procedures necessary to alleviate it. .02 Rod!~
  14. Anyone using this technology?

While it may provide for some ability to get measurements, it does not allow me to actually see the condition of the deck. I take a survey of the site the first time I go out to avoid having to do so again unless structural changes are made or other contractors have serviced it in between time. I can see why some may like it, but it does not allow one to see the decks built below the upper which I have found are not always an exact footprint of the one above it. Zohan Quote: It's not for me. Rod!~
  15. Vinyl siding problem

Did you do an oxidation test first? (wipe a finger across the surface) Sounds dumb but if you don't cya before hand, you leave yourself open to previously existing conditions and the question of whether it was by your hand or not. To me, it looks like it was washed with high pressure and a 15*-25* tip. The bleach created an oxidized surface (not necessarily your application but bleach none-the-less) and your process revealed the condition. Mud Duck had a good suggestion with the restora product to fix it. We have some on hand if you cannot find any locally. Let me know. It didn't cost me anything so I will only ask for shipping. Rod!~ ps, check with Tom @ acr products. He is a distributor and may have some for you + advice if you need it.
  16. Using Knots as a proxy

:yoda:Knots may be hard like Ipe, but the compositional construction is not the same. Knots are longitudinal fibers whereas in comparison with Ipe, are porous. Knots in PTP will absorb or repel depending upon the direction of the flow when it was cut down. What you are observing is in part, an indicator of this a condition. The density factor is due in part to the direction of the fibers vs the surrounding wood grain. Knots are also comprised of by design, higher extractive content to support the function of moving fluids through them in addition to providing support to the limbs of the tree which is a marvelous example of nature in itself to utilize its components in concentration to re-enforce the structure. The higher extractive increases the darkness of color and in some species contributes to them becoming brittle as they dry out. Cedar and redwood for example have this in common. PTP does not necessarily due to the variations of extractives present in the wood. Most knots will retain the color well as long as the extractive content is not of the heartwood which is less permeable to sealants. Those knots will shed the sealant faster vs the rest which will hold the sealant well which is what you have seen. A wood Jedi you may become yet! hmm?!? Rod!~

  21. Over the years the members and staff here on TGS have worked very hard to maintain these forums and to keep them as professional as possible. The Grime Scene was designed to be a tool, an archive, an online research repository, a networking venue, and a place to come together as professionals to help one another in the spirit of goodwill and growth. To this end we have accomplished much. The forums have grown, we have added new areas, we have added new features, all of our members who have come and gone over the years have shared and learned along side one another in the positive and professional spirit of cooperative learning and growth. These forums have been crawled by many search engines and will continue to rank well as they have for some time. Many contractors on here have gotten work from lurkers who are looking for a company to service their property. Rod and I have been to many round tables and have been blown away by people who come up to us and thank us for having TGS, they tell us stories about how it has helped and in some cases made a significant difference in their business. Our response is always the same, we thank each and every one of them for the valuable contributions they share online, for it is the members and their acts of professionalism and kindness, of brotherhood and generosity that have made the forums successful, it's not one person, but all of us. It is for this reason that I feel so very very deeply and strongly about being a BBS that is tough and takes a stand on rule breaking, on bashing, and on unprofessional behavior. It makes every single one of us look bad when a thread goes south and gets ugly. It reflects poorly and is disrespectful not only to the person being slighted, but to all of us that read it, to the visitors and lurkers who may be reading, afraid to post for fear of ridicule or retribution, to the TGS Staff who spend time back and forth voluntarily in PM's, on phone calls, in emails, taking the heat and sniping remarks on the chin when the offender turns away from their victim and turn the venom on them instead. We are all busy people. The economy is down. We should all be spending more time looking for work or working or helping one another and less time spewing negativity and bile and distaste. And it is in this spirit and for this reason that I want to remind you all to use the report post button, and for the moderators to use infractions. The leash is at an end. TGS Staff and professional rule abiding members are in charge of this BBS, and the rule breakers will be banned for unprofessional conduct. Thank you. Beth

  23. Plan on sanding it after stripping with HD-80 due to the extended dwell time and the fact that some areas will go faster than others. Besides, there is often a residue left in the wood that only sanding can help to completely remove, otherwise, it will look darker than it should when stained. Rod!~
  24. Lyle, Noticed that one was redwood, how does it do on pt lumber that is cupped? Drum sanders work ok, but dang if it doesnt take a while to level the wood. Rod!~
