Ipe' stain shoot out
Beth n Rod replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'm pretty sure Rod is referring to what we have seen with an acrylic of theirs circa....2002 I want to say? Have seen it with other things as well, sometimes it looks white, or opaque, some see it as a blue...has to do with moisture and humidity and the effects on acrylics. This is actually true with a number of acrylic products.... Beth -

Yes but you need to keep all your runoff out of the water or the EPA will chew you up and spit you out with a hefty fine. Beth -

Ipe' stain shoot out
Beth n Rod replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I will mention in our 1 experience with removing Defy, the product left a residue in the wood that made it turn blue which required us to sand in order to remove it. Rod!~ -

Why aren't log home stains popular for fences
Beth n Rod replied to FK1234's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
One is only a part of the whole. Cut yourself in half and what are the effects (besides dying of course) ? You become exposed and vulnerable and with each subsequent cut, you become weaker. Rod!~ -

Why aren't log home stains popular for fences
Beth n Rod replied to FK1234's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Fences are made of lumber. You're talking about boards that behave differently than a whole log. I would use a product designed for decks/fences. Beth p.s. yes good log home products are more expensive, and there is a good reason for it. -
The main page photos I believe are on pt lumber for the two shots next to water. These are coated with Cedar Semi-Transparent. Oil Based coatings for Wood, Sealant & Stain: Restore and Protect - Armstrong-Clark Co. If anyone has any pics they could upload here, by all means...:) Rod!~

Ok, got this call that pretty much spiked my Weird-O-Meter today. This guy called, said he was in Iraq (NC phone number, but whatever) and that he knew this lady in Bulgaria (yes - the country) that has power washing leads and they want to subcontract work to people in the US. He was targeting MD. HUH???!?!?! I asked him a simple question. I asked him, if he had ANY references in our area from any other companies who have worked with their company who can vouch for the validity of this ...system...and verify for me that they got leads, got work, made money AND got paid. His response was that he had none, mine was ...goodbye. Is the moon full? No wait - that's April 9th.... Beth

David, You can continue your inquiries here and see if anyone spots your post. Just title it something like Arkansas: cob blasting or the like and a member who is in that area might contact you. Rod!~

Matt, You can clean it and apply the product to areas where it is fading or uneven. The result in some spots may very well be as John Orr mentioned above. It is not absolutely necessary to strip it off but subsequent applications will create a darker result. Rod!~

Its funny how some people think a cleaning service is capable of being covered by a warranty or guarantee. My answer is: We do not manufacture the products used in the performance of your services so we have no ability to offer anything other than an assurance that it will be clean once we are finished. After that, mother nature will be hard at work undoing everything and I thank her for keeping me in business. Rod!~

Silicone as an ingredient in a sealer leaves its constituents behind in the wood and they are colorless. The problem occurs upon reapplication where it actually repels the new product and prevents penetration. While some may call this effect desirable for repelling water, for those who do not like the product and/or are looking to conduct maintenance, the process becomes more arduous then most know how to contend with or are willing to pay for. I don't have any comments on its UV protective capabilities as there is no relative information available regarding it other than the claims. In regard to cob blasting, I noticed you are in Arkansas. This would be an expensive option for you to have us travel that far...your thoughts? Rod!~

It has been my personal experience that many owners want to meet the contractors that they are considering hiring. I was in sales for 14 years prior to this, and while selling on the phone is not hard (second nature in fact), there is something to be said for a business meeting. Not all of us (and I do include myself here) believe in or use high pressure sales techniques when with a customer. I'll not go into that any further here, suffice to say what works well for me I don't really want working for someone else close to me - no offense, but I like what we do... and how we do it...works. If you can't get in front of everyone it is ok. Manage your time as you need to. Just make sure you have the follow up processes in place necessary if you don't meet the client. We have many we never meet, many of them have been repeat customer for years. From time to time when we are in public in a store and have on a company shirt someone come up to us and say "I'm _________ and you do my deck." It's always nice to put a face with a name and an address. Beth :groovy3: :cup:

It is effecting everyone. Now they may not admit it, but it is. We would all be busier if it was not for what we are dealing with nationally. I know I personally am trying to buy American, and also support the small local mom and pop businesses. If we eat out, it is the mom and pop restaurants we go to, not the huge chains. Small businesses need all the local support they can get. Beth
