  1. what to do with sad looking cedar deck?

Hi McKenzy, I have moved your question to the DIY'er area. :) Beth
  2. Looks like redwood to me. Beth
  3. Different products behave differently when applied. Some are meant to do just what you saw, soak in and replenish the oils that are lost from the wood. Others, form a finish on the surface and provide a barrier. With these you can see the product working, more easily - I suppose because you can see the film and you can see the water rolling off. However these kinds of products wear to the point of cracking and peeling in many cases and if you don't know what you are looking at and do not know when or how to maintain them, they are a nightmare (an expensive one) waiting to happen in the future. Applied correctly, an oil based finish that your wood absorbs will protect well for a period of time. But don't blame the product necessarily... Beth

  6. What is 4th of July to YOU!

To me, the 4th of July is a day to celebrate the Spirit of our country, its beginning, and its today. I am proud to be an American. I love our country. We are fortunate to have the freedoms we do, and we should be thankful for many have paid a price for us to have them. I celebrate our soil, our people, our dreams. Beth

  10. Actually, you CAN do jobs like that, get paid what you need to make, and be a business. We do it every day. Beth
  11. The machine's 0 or 15 tip is NOT the answer. The soap, the extension poles, the brushes, the method - that's the ticket. Think soft washing, not high pressure. Be gentle. Be safe. Be insured!!! Beth
  12. I think we all like the easy jobs, with higher profit margins. But I know I won't turn away business if it is challenging and they will pay the asking price. But then, each of us knows what we want and don't want to do. There are jobs that 5 years ago we would have turned away, and today we laugh and say bring it on. Sometimes I think you get to a point where your hands on experience tells you, you are ready for something bigger or tougher. It doesn't mean it is wrong to not take on the challenge. It is a business decision, and that's that. I have seen great work from many of you regardless. As long as your customer is happy and would buy services again, that's the bottom line to me. Beth :groovy2:

  14. My first Spontaneous Combustion

BTW - oily rags and tarps are not the only cause for this. There are other ways spontaneous combustion can occur. How many of you sand wood? How many of you consider the sawdust? Beth
  15. My first Spontaneous Combustion

Take the precautions no matter how silly it feels. If you don't, the day you ignore it will be the day it may happen to you. It happens to everyone, it doesn't discriminate, Pro's included. Be safe!!! Beth :cup:

  19. Get an extension pole. Get a soft bristled truck washing brush. Buy an x-jet M5. Promise NEVER to use a zero on a house or a deck. For that matter, bag the 15. Your 40 and 25 are ok. Never wash too close. Never wash at an angle that forces water under the siding. Never work with out liability insurance. Ever. Use the search feature here with a good snack and beverage and read and ask questions. Beth
