Protecting Our Lungs.... Discussing Respirators Here
Beth n Rod replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Here's the helmet (minus the cooler). http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/wood-siding-log-home-care/13109-glass-blasting-log-home.html Beth- 18 replies

Protecting Our Lungs.... Discussing Respirators Here
Beth n Rod replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'll have to put up a photo later. It's really small and hooks into the air line where the helmet is. The hose runs back to a filter. The filter can connect up to two lines, so two people. We are set up for both the blaster and ground person to have a dedicated line, air cooler and helmet. It is just for blasting, as it requires a compressor to produce the airflow. Beth- 18 replies

Protecting Our Lungs.... Discussing Respirators Here
Beth n Rod replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Yes, we do...among others. We also have some that are not full face, as well as goggles (I like the one piece better myself) We also have auditory protection, knee pads, PVC, boots, nitrile gloves, dust masks, and dedicated breathing apparatus for blasting which includes the air cooler. We take safety pretty seriously, and all of our staff goes through annual safety training. Everyone is responsible for cleaning and care of their PPE as well. Beth- 18 replies

Brown Sugar or Warm Honey
Beth n Rod replied to rtate's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
The longevity will be about the same on ipe really. We prefer the Warm Honey Gold. There is enough brown tone in the ipe as it is. It will be beautiful. Beth -

Protecting Our Lungs.... Discussing Respirators Here

Hey Matt, Try one of these. Survivair On Line You can buy the filter to fit your working environment and the masks come in various sizes to fit different sized heads. They are also adjustable to conform to your face as well by the straps on the sides. The one piece design helps prevent fogging inside the mask and is easier to put on and remove than the separate mask and respirator versions you are now using. Rod!~- 18 replies

I'm no expert but from what I have been led to understand, concrete needs to be etched before applying a coating to it otherwise it will not be able to adhere to the surface well. Without knowing the prep involved I could not elaborate much further on the cause other than to say it looks like the concrete was either too hot during the application and failed to adhere or there was still moisture on it and that has heated up during the course of the day causing the blistering. Protecting Our Lungs.... Discussing Respirators Here
Beth n Rod replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Make sure the respirator you choose is rated for what you will be working with. Change the cartridge frequently. Make sure the seal around your face is tight. Auditory protection should not be overlooked either. Beth- 18 replies

Remember, we don't have one on the books, so don't hold your breath for me. Get a couple other guys who have artillery fungus on houses that need washing. Beth

Yes I sure did. :) Thanks! Beth

Don't have a house on the books to be washed that has it right now. Might be a while... Beth

We had to take it down temporarily. Once the arcade technology is available for this version, we will add it back. :) Good question! Beth- 33 replies

When you take off spider poop there is no residue. When you manage to pop a piece of artillery fungus off there is a small ring left behind. Next time before you wash pop one off with your finger nail....and make a note of what you see. And please - tell is what this method is because some of us have been looking for the answer to AF for years..... Beth :groovy3:

Great, but don't keep it a secret. What is your process? Rod!~

Spider poop and artillery fungus look alike. :) Spider poop comes off no problem. What residue is left behind when you do get the artillery fungus off? Beth

Ok, you must have seen this coming...inquiring minds want to know! We don't focus on this part since we have so much in Wood Restoration to keep us busy and the HW is an add on to compliment the service. Oxidation removal is the only other service we offer in HW'ing. Do tell. Rod!~

It can be removed within the first week or so but after that, the enzymes have had the chance to take hold on the surface and discolor it. Then it becomes a serious chem application and brushing with a bleach follow up. All of which are not necessarily good for either vinyl or aluminum siding. Even afterwards, the results are not always complete as remnants are still evident. Forget E.I.F.S., Stucco or Dryvit which are virtually the same thing branded differently but easily damaged when trying to remove hardened artillery fungus. Others may have their ideas to share but I for one don't even bother to offer the service because most homeowners aren't willing to give up the $$$ to have it done. Rod!~
