  1. Redwood Deck

Tell Peirce that Rod said he is full of it. :p  The redwood that exists out here comes from the west coast and there is no climatic conditions, species variations or any situations that will support his statement. Rod!~
  2. Redwood Deck

You can't get Redwood in MD anymore. We maintain a number of Redwood decks, and have had problems getting replacement lumber for a couple years now. Not one single lumber yard can get it. Not allowed to use it in MD. Beth
  3. Talk to James (Jim Foley) he does tons of that style of wood home. John Tornabene (John t) does a good number of them also. Beth
  4. Redwood Deck

That makes no sense to me.... I don't see why a board in one location, would behave any differently than a board in another location given the same ambient temps, same cleaners, etc., same process...tannin bleeding would be the nature of the species I would think... very odd.... I'll go drink more coffee. :cup: Beth
  5. They look AWESOME though.... Beth :cup:
  6. I found a deck in Mesa???

  7. I found a deck in Mesa???

  8. I found a deck in Mesa???

Scott.... Call us. We can help. Also, post a pic. Beth p.s. ground level decks are easy to do when there are no rails, but they are a failure waiting to happen if the ground contact is too close, which it may be if you are seeing a product failure there now.
  9. done in a day

  12. Global Warming - YOUR Vote Please ?

Global warming does not just mean that the world is getting warmer. It indicates significant changes in the climate and weather conditions occurring in areas not usually known for this type of activity. Tornadoes for example have been popping up in cities that have never known them before. Areas of the country are experiencing colder winters and hotter summers by comparison. Winters are getting milder where we are. This last one was by far the mildest and spring came early regardless of puxatawney phil's prediction. The snow fall here has been the lowest since I first came out to the eastern part of the US with 6" being the total amount by contrast to having in the past 18" - 3' total snow fall and adding to that, we have had more rain during the winter instead. We haven't had a significant snow fall in the winter since 2002. They were heavier the years before. I don't have to be a climatologist or scientist. I keep track of the weather like most here do as it is a part of our business and over the past 8 years, patterns indicate that we are warming up. I think global warming is a direct result of our machinations and unless we change the way we live... I prefer not to be ignorant about the potentials of what we are creating on the only place we have as a home. Look how we treat it!?!? Like the song says: "pave paradise to put up a parking lot" Rod!~
  13. PA, NJ, DE Contractors

Ron, we have all been networking for years, that's what the BBS's and the round tables so many have been having are all about. I don't think it is an alien concept. Beth :cup:

  16. sealer on plants

That was me, I suggested the dish soap, but I never said forget it. I said, REPLACE THE PLANTS if they are that bad. Go LOOK at them. It's their property! It is in a lessor condition because an employee, who is an extension of your professionalism by the way, neglected to do something he was supposed to do? Please! Reprimand the employee. It's his fault you are in this place today! Make the customer happy - they paid you and trusted you to be careful on their property. They have every right to be upset! Also - did you tell them, as a part of your presentation that you protect things? This is an opportunity to KEEP a customer and to learn and grow. Just fix it. Beth
  17. sealer on plants

    I agree with Rick. Beth
  18. Ok, I will chime in here...it's about me alright!?!?!? nokay, it's about longevity, and in this economy that is a strong selling point. Rod!~

You could try percarb, heck you could use common dish washing detergent too for that matter - degreaser is the key. Mix up some dish soap, it's milder than the NaOH, and may tackle the grease better than a percarb will. Beth
  20. sealer on plants

I would suggest that you go buy her some new plants. They may or may not recover and waiting is only going to make the customers feelings grow negatively. Rod!~
  21. Max dissolving for HD-80?

10 oz per gallon is right. Beth
  22. sealer on plants

It depends on how much of the plant is coated. I worked for a florist many, many, many, many (too many) years ago. If we are talking about a few leaves, then cut them off, feed and water the plant and it will grow. If all the leaves are coated and the stem is too, well, I have seen that kill a plat. Case in point, years ago we stripped a deck, and before we came back to seal, the lady's hubby who was critically ill, got a can of Thompsons and wen out with a pump up and sealed the deck and ALL the plants. They died. But they were pretty well coated. Vines I would be less concerned about, they may grow back but will not look good this year. Buy her another plant. It's the caring thing to do. Take the clippings of the dead oily leaves and show them to the employee and tell him that the next time, not only is the plant on him, but the apology is face to face with the client on his own time. 23. Recently, Mike Williamson was kind enough to make a donation to TGS. But he didn't stop there. Mike took it upon himself to post and to ask all of you to step up and give back, to help defray the costs of running this site. Then a funny thing happened...people did just that. We wanted to take a moment to thank those of you who have donated to TGS. We are proud to have you listed as TGS Site Supporters. ..........cheaper to build a new deck? No way. You don't always need to apply the stripper full strength. Once you get used to stripping, it gets easier, it really does. Hang in there. :) Beth
