  1. Managing our industry

From what we are hearing it was a fan-dam-tastic meeting, a solid step forward. Keep up the great work, and remember it takes the help of many people working together to make an impact, so please - let's all work together to make our industry better for all of us. There are no kings, no queens, we are a team! Beth
  2. Managing our industry

Tony S., Thank you very much for the Kudos. I'm glad to do what I can. We try to hold TGS to a high professional standard. We don't want it to be a bar or locker room, but rather a place where pros come to talk and learn and hopefully grow. We try to keep in mind that there are many eyes on the net, and those may include your clients. Have a great day! Beth :cup:

  7. Some teak furniture...

We like the alkyds on outdoor furniture... Wood Tux works, you can use SRD or ATO if you like but they don't hold up as well as they used to... Beth

  13. My Horrible Experience with IPOWERWEB!!

I had a company call me today telling me they were my long distance company and trying to switch me. They were very slick, said they were calling to inform me and I needed to verify my account. I caught it, but barely. Then I called our carrier to have them note the account that we do not want to switch and any orders that could come through should be ignored. Read the fine print, and question everything. Beth :deal:

  16. It's almost time for Spring Cleaning! Before you know it people will begin to look for someone to take care of chores they don't want to tackle themselves. As you begin to do estimates, think about things you can add on that might appeal to clients and could increase your bottom line. Does the garage need cleaning out? Does trash need hauling to the dump? Do the windows need cleaning? Are the gutters plugged up? How dirty is the sidewalk? Are the flower beds full of debris? By making the owner aware that you are willing and able to perform these services you might just add to your bottom line. Think Spring! Beth :dancing: :cup:

  19. Lazy Man Needs Deck Help

p.s. keep a gallon of cheap vinegar nearby when working with a caustic stripper such as HD-80. If you get any on you, neutralize the area with the vinegar.
  20. Lazy Man Needs Deck Help

I'm not offended at all. But you did post by your own admission that you are lazy and cheap. We do this for a living and have seen the results of lazy people who stop half way through a job, and cheap people who cut corners or skimp and still expect stunning results. If you truly have the aptitude, you are not the average homeowner, and I applaud your efforts. But year after year, we see many home owners who try, and fail, and then are bitter because they didn't spend the money. They find out they, unlike you, have no aptitude. There are tons of threads on these forums that detail how to properly strip a deck, prep a deck, and seal a deck. The one thing I'll say and it is out of caring, don't be lazy with the PPE. Wear it. HD-80 is a very powerful caustic. It works like a charm, but will eat your flesh in a heartbeat. Yes - eat your flesh raw. Hospital raw. Don't downstream it. Apply it with a pump up sprayer - it's more controlled. Prewet all the plants around the deck, work in small sections. Same with your neutralizer. The HD-80 can strip the paint off the aluminum window trim or gutter downspouts. The acid can etch your glass. Both can harm your person, and your plants. Pre-wet the areas you are working near, and wear PPE. This is not a lazy man's work. Be ready to devote hours at a time. Take your breaks at logical work stopping points, and NEVER leave active chemical on the wood if you are not working - by this I mean don't leave it until next weekend - finish what you start. Hope this helps. We all mean well around here... Check the deck forum. Beth
