  6. Who is Barack Obama?

Come to think of it...no. As far as any one religion being in the forefront, I think the pope was given that job. Bringing religion into the picture of qualifications for a president is asking for trouble. Too many are involved in this very problem in the middle east with religion underlining the turmoil they can't resolve. This and the following is just my opinion and I am sure others may not agree which is what is great about this nation, we can still get along but we don't have a dictatorship narrowing our options which always includes religious beliefs. Our forefathers wrote the constitution based upon the hundreds of years of tyranny they endured which is why they specifically stated separation of church and state. They knew of the pitfalls of having one mixed into the other and is why they created this nation so that they and we could believe as we decide is best. Have your religion but keep it out of government. In those terms they understood there can be only one religion otherwise there would be religious upheaval which had been known to destroy governments and ignite holy wars. That is the one thing I did get from history. Our candidates need to be able to bring about positive change and help to repair the state of this nations economic stature. Without this, we are all heading for a big fall. I am not intending any offense but the bible has no guidelines on paying down the federal deficit and creating an economy that works well amongst the rest of the world. This takes a person with considerable experience or education and perhaps both. Clinton ran a very stable government and helped to significantly reduce the federal deficit and that speaks volumes. As we have seen, any idiot can run and start a war, but it takes someone with intelligence to run a country and make it prosper. This is a perspective we all should remember when it comes to choosing a new president. I have not made a choice yet as there is still time to make it, but obama did not earn my respect in dishonoring our nations tradition during the pledge of allegiance. It comes from the heart and if it isn't where your heart is, you should not be president. Rod!~

Sounds to me like you have a new wood vs old wood look in addition to lack of penetration. If you do not clean the wood or at least sand or hit it with a defuring pad, this can happen. Go back and use a defuring pad to etch it and give it a light coat. This will look a little more shiny than the rest but will fade over time. Rod!~
  13. Ellijay Log Home Restoration Roundtable

Just wanted to say thanks to Rich Littlefield for hosting a very cool round table, focusing on the log care industry. It was great to see some folks we knew again, to meet new folks, and also meet folks we had only spoken to before. Rich had excellent demos and samples of real life situations, the Sansin rep Suzanne was there on Saturday and discussed the structure of wood. Again, thanks Rich for being a great host! Beth

  15. Heard he already resigned and turned in the letter of resignation. Doesn't look like it has been announced on the PWNA site yet. I'm sure they will have a BOD call to discuss what they need to do, since they now have 3 vacancies on the Executive BOD. It's also the time of year that elections are normally held, so we'll see if a ballot comes out of this or not. Beth
  16. This could be very good news for the organization. The change was very much needed. Beth :dancing:

  23. I do agree there is a huge immigration problem here. But I don't think rounding everyone up and sending them back across the border is exactly the right answer either, especially since so many of them are not Mexicans either. That's just dumping on our neighbor. I just hope whoever is elected this fall has a plan to deal with this. It means having to work with multiple countries, not just Mexico, and getting an awful lot of paperwork dealt with. Does anyone know why so many Hispanics don't speak much English? Care to guess? It's not a matter of being lazy, it's more a matter of being uneducated and even illiterate. Many countries need for kids to leave school at a pretty early age. They have to go to work. In some cases they have to fight. In many cases elementary school is about as good as it gets. It's kind of hard, really hard to learn to read, write and speak a second language if you didn't learn to do it to begin with in your own language too well. Last year we began offering our employment forms in Spanish as well as English and boy were we surprised at the number of applicants who still could not read well enough to fill one out. Upon further investigation and after speaking with several people who are language professionals and bilingually fluent, we learned the truth about why things are the way they are. See, it seems silly to me that we are all worried about someone taking our jobs - when we can read, write and speak our own native tongue. Sometimes I think Americans are simply afraid to learn a second language. Why, I don't know.... Beth
  24. Jeff, Are you assuming that all Hispanics are Mexican? Because the people here that we are discussing come from many countries, not just Mexico. Sorry - it's a pet peeve of mine....they are Hispanics (or Latinos), not Mexicans. Why do so many people refer to them like they all come from one place? They don't. We are talking about all of the Spanish speaking countries. Beth
  25. ...that and they are giving birth to human beings. Beth
