I don't get into these threads - politics or religion. Beth is a woman. ;) -
Anyone working out of a van?
Beth n Rod replied to Chris S's question in Residential Pressure Washing
We have a Sprinter van and love it. Plenty of space and height, and room to mount a skid and a tank. Beth -

Global Warming - YOUR Vote Please ?
Beth n Rod replied to Apple Roof Cleaning's question in The Club House
The fact that the climate is changing due to our affect on it is significant enough for me to understand that global warming is a reality. To think that we have no impact on our environment is foolish. Look at what we do each day: pump tons of hydrocarbons and other emissions into the atmosphere each day just by running our various engines. Eventually, the residues from those emissions come back to earth in the form of pollution that ends up in the waters. Ever clean a row of houses close to an interstate? There is plenty of carbon on the siding and for those who have an airport close by, there is plenty of jet fuel that gets on the siding as well. 6.6 billion people on this planet without any ill effects? I am not trying to convince anyone else, but I take these facts for my own determination that we are the cause of global warming. Not to argue anyone else's facts presented, but , to me, these were the basis of limited information. I don't buy into scientific history or climatology because they are learning as they go. Give em a few years and something else will change in their assumptions. The data presented today is on a global scale and not just on isolated regions of the globe. Ice caps melting, ozone depletion, massive deforestations, air, water and land pollution...it's real. Rod!~ -

Cleaning a restuarant deck
Beth n Rod replied to cwarrior's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
One could use bleach in conjunction with a sodium hydroxide based cleaner to help produce a brighter wood color but is overkill from our experience. The restaurants stock degreaser would do the trick as they tend to have plenty of surfactants and buffers but they do not have a neutralizer. My take on the outdoor structure is that it would not have a finish and I would not recommend applying one either. ANSI slip/fall standards and safety codes would not allow it unless it has the ability to add traction. Bare wood would reduces the potential liability anyway for a slip/fall incident. Rod!~ -

Cleaning a restuarant deck
Beth n Rod replied to cwarrior's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Yes he could. Mixing light duty with the sodium hydroxide is key - Sodium hydroxide is not overkill if you know how to use it...none of these things are bad if you do not over use them. -

To cut grease, use a sodium hydroxide cleaner, wash, then neutralize with either citric, oxalic or a blended acid. The sodium hydroxide will be more effective on grease than the bleach will. Sorry Shane... Seal it with a penetrating oil sealer if they will spring for it. It will help protect it. Beth -
Leave Iraq - Or Finish The Job ?
Beth n Rod replied to Apple Roof Cleaning's question in The Club House
Iraq has become an embarrassment for the US and turned into a virtual vietnam all over again. My position is against it all. We went in unprepared for the factions and having no exit strategy, we are losing men over there for nothing. I do not blame the soldiers doing their job, but I think the commanding officers have underestimated the blurred lines of religious thinking among the natives. They have no idea of what they are up against and it is not as simple as policing the area into a system control. Anarchy is more than just lawlessness, it is a refusal to submission of foreign rule. This game is played with drinks for a bar and one extra twist... list the drink, then the recipe for the drink which you can cheat and lookup on The Webtender: Search - Drink search. I'll start..... Example: Bahama Mama - A Day At the beach A Day at the Beach Ingredients: * 1 oz Coconut rum * 1/2 oz Amaretto * 4 oz Orange juice * 1/2 oz Grenadine Mixing instructions: Shake Rum, Amaretto, and Orange Juice in a shaker filled with ice. Strain over ice into a highball glass. Add Grenadine and garnish with a Pineapple Wedge and a Strawberry. The next post would begin with A Day at the Beach - and another drink beginning with H. Beth

My vote is: It's your site! Do as you feel best, not what others think you should do. After all, you are ultimately the one who has to be accountable and make the proper business decisions that work best for your business. Others have links such as yours up on their site without any problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Rod!~ -
Thanks Jon. I use Smart Balance, will do some checking in on that one. Rod!~

For what it's worth, most companies start out under priced compared to those that are more established due to a lower overhead load and less employees if any. Experience is something we all lacked in the beginning so this is a mute point. They don't mean to be lowballers but in the beginning the operating expenses at this stage are an advantage over the older companies who have higher ones. We started out pricing like others in the local papers and after the first year barely broke even. We were fortunate to restructure our prices every year since to establish a profit margin for the work after learning the first year how long it takes to do a project according to size and detail. ooohhhhh yuck! I was just having a flashback about toting around a stupid machine and all the hose and the chem sprayers and so on...my back was killing me! Everything is now mounted in the vehicle and only needing to pull off hoses and re-roll them once done. All this reinvestment has caused our prices to go up because of the additional expenses associated with them. Lease and purchase payments, Insurances, fuel and maintenances, tires, brakes, umbrella coverages for the employee drivers. Being in this higher priced category makes us develop a better presentation, and showing up in these types of vehicles so that people can see what they are paying for. Most really appreciate it over seeing us pull up in a private vehicle to validate the price in their minds. Overall, prices are indicative of the companies size in general and not always just another lowballer per say. Those who can, will charge less. Doesn't always mean they aren't giving the best they can for the money. We still have customers who call us from our first year who pay prices that are 300% higher than their original estimate because of one major thing: Customer Service. Rod!~ -
