  3. AAAAAAGGGGGHHHH! (...clumps of hair leaving scalp...) 1. strip deck 2. sand deck until all zero degree tips marks are gone...be careful not to bid sanding too low - that can bite you in the tushie - if you are not used to it you will be there twice as long as you think 3. seal the deck This is a great before and after opportunity and getting damage photos is also great - you can show future customers what can happen if they hire someone who doesn't know what to do. Detail this right, and its a sale closer. Beth

  8. It can be done. While Sikkens is a great finish it is a p.i.t.a. to maintain. It goes through a color shift from UV exposure and if not reapplied regularly (before any peeling or flaking) it is very difficult to match up again. I am only saying this as the customer should be made aware of the frequency required to keep it looking good, otherwise the finish will degrade and require a complete replacement which those who have tried to do so know it is a very difficult strip. also, if the deck is less than 2 feet off the ground, it will fail quicker than on other decks due to high moisture retention and dynamic changes that occur from extended drying periods. Since there is no practical way to coat all sides to keep the deck from swelling and shrinking, this scenario makes it unsuitable for sikkens dek. Go with srd instead. Rod!~

  10. Working Cheap In Tampa

There have been a few water restrictions imposed this year locally where we are, but so far they seem to effect just those on well water. This past week we have gotten lots of rain, which we really needed. Beth

  13. A Little Pick-Me-Up After a Bad Day

I like some of these odd ones... Gut Rumbles: I've wondered the same thing I've been using the one about Hogan's Goat for years. My mother used to use it. Beth
  14. A Little Pick-Me-Up After a Bad Day

Some obtuse truths: It has been said: Opinions are like butt holes, everyones got one. That doesn't mean they should all see the light of day. Intellectual property ceases to be so once it is public knowledge. Coca Cola doesn't put their secret recipe on line and still claim it is theirs. Barf or crap, it's all the same once it has been mixed up...no one wants it. Revenge is a dish best served cold, but it is also a 2-way street. Take one day at a time...like it comes any other way? Misery loves company ... but misery makes you sick. It's all fun and games, till someone loses a nut. (Then it becomes personal) Time is on your side (till you've wasted it and you have none left) A penny saved is a penny earned. Now you can say your not penniless. Ignorance and arrogance walk hand in hand. (because everyone else has been burned) Hate and prejudice have one thing in common; neither one cares. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The ultimate questions: Why am I here? To evolve For how long? Till death takes you. The ultimate action: Stop acting like tomorrow will always come, you have no guarantee that you will live one second longer. Live impeccably and with purpose of heart, without rushing, without faltering. We go as far as we can. Rod!~
  15. Hi Travis, Up until this season we used Deckers to apply WTW. Just keep your system clean and it will work fine as an application tool. Beth
  16. Over the past several weeks, we have watched and listened to those who are a part of the online community. While we are not going to go into any specifics, or name any names here, we felt that the time has come to address various concerns that have been brought to our attention. For many years TGS has prided itself in being a forum where people can come to openly share their thoughts, knowledge and ideas in a mature and professional manner. This goal has never changed. At times this means getting into heated debates, which is fine so long as those participating in the debate remain professional to all members. This is a challenge for all of us. There came a time in our industry some months ago when some very hot information was posted on TGS. This information escalated between parties and reached a point that caused us to have to evaluate the need for more structured rules on the forums. New rules were adopted quickly. Many users had no problems with them, but some, those who had tendencies to break rules and buck the system took issue with them, disregarding the welfare of the forums, its members or the owners. The rules were meant to help deter problems, not to create them. As owners of this BBS, we have spent a considerable amount of time and money to create a community that is welcoming and comfortable for those who would choose to follow the rules and participate. We have never had the desire to personally own other people’s photos or text. Like other users on TGS we do read the forums. We learn, we share, and we grow with all of you. Any member may delete their photos. Members in good standing who have not violated the rules or lost privileges are quite able to edit their posts. Now having said that, we would also like to say that this forum represents a community of thousands of members. Each member has invested time in reading and in posting, and looks to these forums as a source of information and networking for their business. It is for this reason, and NO other that we take content removal seriously. It’s not about us, the owners of a BBS; it is about each and every user who has ever registered here (or ever will) on TGS to learn and to help his or her business. For those of you who would take a stand and strike out at us personally as owners, we ask that you pick up the phone. Taking out your actions on the forums hurts other people beside the ones you intend to effect. As we stated earlier we have been thinking about various things for several weeks. We have reviewed the rules, trying to read them from the perspective of being a user who does not know us as contractors or Admins at all and is brand new to the forums. After careful thought we have revised the forum rules and terms of service. In the past all Forum Leaders, Senior Forum Leaders, and Admins had the option of having “edited by” displayed or not if they edited a post. This has been changed. All Users, Forum Leaders, Senior Forum Leaders and Admins who change a post will show with an “edited by” note. TGS staff will not change posts unless the forum rules have been broken. We believe these changes are more in step with what users are familiar with and used to. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Below are the new Forum Rules and Terms of Service for TGS. We look forward to seeing you online. -------------------------------------------------------- http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/residential-pressure-washing/announcements.html Terms of Service Warning: The contracting trades are an activity in which there exists the potential for serious injury or death. 18. Well, I know of one specifically, not ipe, it was PT, but it got rained on within about 3 hours and it was fine. Tacky on the steps and rails that were low and close to the ground ( it was humid - no concerns there) but the more elevated areas were fine, and the color held. Didn't have to touch anything up. Beth
  19. Thank you John. We appreciate your feedback, and look forward to seeing you on the forums. Beth :cup:

  22. Hey Kevin - Batch #1, drying problems and visible separation. Batch #2, more dryer added which helped the drying time, and visible separation so it LOOKED like Batch #1. Batch#3, doesn't separate out like the other two, and dries normally. We dated the pails when they arrived, so we have a better idea of which was what. Beth
  23. Exactly. The issues were in the first batch of the season, not the second or third batch. They were not "mythical" they were real. Beth
  24. Which Cetol...SRD or DEK? Best advice I can give you with Sikkens, follow the label and tech data sheet to the letter. Beth
