As it is now, there are mailing lists that have the DNM designation for addresses that request it. Also if you receive mail back asking to be added to the DNM list, you are supposed to honor that and not mail to them. Beth

Sally Slipped on a Slop of Slippery Stairway Stripper
Beth n Rod replied to bigchaz's topic in Chemicals & Safety
Very true....I remember a deck Rod and I went out together to do. The terrain in the back of the house was very, very, very steep...both of us went down, both of us had our backs out and neither of us was happy. Customer loved the deck tho.... Beth -
Sally Slipped on a Slop of Slippery Stairway Stripper
Beth n Rod replied to bigchaz's topic in Chemicals & Safety
Too much can happen unexpectedly on peoples property. None of them are the same and each comes with it's own perils and pit falls. 2-man crews provide a safeguard that if something should happen, there is another to come to aid. Nothing saying that both of them won't befall a misfortune but the odds are higher one would think in that case. We wear rubber boots with good tread on them and you must learn to walk like a duck...flat footed steps only. Do not walk heel-toe fashion as you limit the amount of contact with the surface and the weight is not evenly distributed for the sake of keeping your balance square beneath you. Rod!~ -
Sally Slipped on a Slop of Slippery Stairway Stripper
Beth n Rod replied to bigchaz's topic in Chemicals & Safety
Have never known a stripper not to make a deck slippery. The caustic is breaking down a product - probably oil based....and so it is slick. Be careful, and teach yourself to walk a certain way. If you try to fly off the deck, you will fly ...off the deck. Be careful! :) Beth -

Water Supply Tank choice?
Beth n Rod replied to plainpainter's question in Residential Pressure Washing
The thing I moved away from was the barrel tanks. They take up too much room and don't allow any functionality around them due to design. We changed to a square tank and found that not only does it allow for better use of the room around it, the water doesn't slosh around as bad as the barrel type which round design promotes the wave like movement of the water making your vehicle surge back and forth and so on. The square tank allowed me to mount a plywood top on it with room for shelves on each side and a hose reel on top. Just food for thought. Rod!~ -
Is increasing Price after quote right?
Beth n Rod replied to mobilemike's question in Residential Pressure Washing
If you have not begun the work, you can cancel the contract and issue a new one...or you can submit an addendum to supersede the original and see if the customer is willing to entertain it. It is pretty tough to get more if you have already begun the work. It is likely you would have to eat the cost and chalk it up to experience. Rod!~ -
Wow! What a difference! Beth

Need help...bad!
Beth n Rod replied to dpaull's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
What are you sealing it with? What type of sprayer did you use? Are you doing this alone or do you have help? Go to Sherwin Williams or Duron and get canvas tarps for the grass and plants. Get a roll of pre-taped plastic and a roll of blue painters tape. Mask the back of the house, 6 feet high. Cover plants, grass etc. Cover any exposed pavement. Spray and back pad. Do the rails first, outside, then inside, then the floor starting by the back door and work your way off the deck. Beth -
propylene glycol
Beth n Rod replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hey Ken, I am giving what I was presented by Tom after he had this product developed by his own chemist. We have used it and it works. I also need to mention that it has a proprietary alcohol in it as well but I was trying to address the main fact of environmental consciousness by pointing out the other chemical. I am like you, neither a chemist or a good parrot. Rod!~ -
Possibly World's Most Tragic Deck Job.... The Zero-Degree Debacle... Pics YIKES!
Beth n Rod replied to fireandrain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Sometimes a little agitation helps too. A stiff bristled deck brush can help to loosen the finish if it is difficult to remove. Apply, let dwell, agitate, apply, let dwell, check surface, wash. Beth -

You know there was one video up there that nearly had me in tears it was so funny. It's the one called "Fixin to Repair" and it's a riot. Don't have a mouth full of liquid when you watch it. [YT]sCsjX9FCV_k[/YT] YouTube - Pressure Washing Deck Beth -

propylene glycol
Beth n Rod replied to bigchaz's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Ethylene glycol phenyl ether C.A.S. #122-99-6 happens to work great in a booster. Tom @ ACR products sells an additive called 633 that helps to expand the range of sealants a stripper would work with and is less hazardous to the environment. Rod!~ -

Price?
Beth n Rod replied to ACSTravis's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Some might say with a closure rate that high, your prices must be too low. Not measuring is the kiss of death. Measure. Pure and simple, measure. No other way to learn your material costs accurately than to measure and calculate when you are new. Beth p.s. on a 20x20 deck, you will have a minimum of 60 feet of rails. Some would calculate them as linear, some as square, and you are omitting at least 180 sq ft worth of wood from your calculations. Rails can be 1/3 or MORE of your total sq footage. That's alot of money to leave behind. Our price ....would have been much higher for that job. Based upon our calculations for the wood given, and the wood omitted, you really made about $1.08 per square foot overall. -
