  1. Va Tech shootings

My son will be a High School senior next year and is considering VA Tech. You think that doesn't make my blood run cold? I don't know if it will effect his decision to apply or not, but it won't make letting go any easier on mom, that's for sure! Beth
  2. 9/11 - who done it!

There was an article in the 9-8-06 Washington Post-Style section regarding disbelievers of 9-11 and it was about how people in the U.S. including some very well educated ones and others in positions 'in the know' believe the government was behind it or had some hand in it. The current poll indicates: 36% suspect the government promoted the attacks or intentionally sat on it's hands. 16% believe explosives brought down the towers. 12% believe a cruise missile hit the pentagon. In another poll of those closer to ground zero, of New York city residents- 49.3% believed the government "consciously failed to act." The numbers have been rising as the "9/11 Truth movement" stays on top of digging deeper. So many of us were affected in so many ways by what happened that day and it was a turning point for most in directions of how they felt about their country, the world and their safety. What do you think? Rod!~
  3. Well, it had to happen sometime. We finished an Ipe' deck (3rd time customer) and the work turned out just as expected. Used C.A.T.O. Mahogany Flame on the deck and Amberwood on the Teak furniture. We called the customer the next day to ask her to inspect the deck and let us know how it faired the rain. She called back to let us know that it was in pretty bad shape. Upon our inspection, the teak furniture had no ill effects at all while the Ipe' decking had suffered severely in the fact that it now had craters of sealer from the rain that had been pouring off the bay window area and other places where the water pooled on the deck and spots developed. I went back and stripped it but around the edges by the house, it had not come off completely and I thought I could get the rest by sanding and buffing. (sound of buzzer when wrong answer is given) I tried my best but it would not come out of the wood. So I had to come back and strip it again in the remaining areas where stain (and the crater effect) was still evident. Going to seal it up friday when the rain clears and will post more then. Probably will have some extensive defurring to do. Rod!~
  4. C.A.T.O. rained on

Thank you :) We use the blue painters tape. I am not sure if he masked that job or not. It was extremely windy that day and nothing was sprayed. Keep a degreaser rag handy, and have not had problems. Beth
  5. Wax additive for vinyl

Yes I did, but forgive me for not mentioning the temp of the water. We avoid going above 115* on vinyl due to the fact that it can cause it to warp and buckle. Hot water helps the siding to dry faster. But as far as applying the wax once the wash is done is a matter of our regimen and not a requirement. We use a butyl based cleaner and it can nullify the wax if used in the same mix. Rod!~
  6. C.A.T.O. rained on

It was a year ago, but not now. To get Wood Tux go to: Extreme Solutions - Quality Restoration Products Great news on being booked out! :dancing: Beth :cup:

  8. I Need Help....

Do a test patch with just a gloss type concrete sealer and see if that brings back the color richness. Also, give Jay a call at V-Seal 1-877-738-7325 concrete sealer, concrete sealers - VSeal He is very knowledgeable in Concrete surfaces and coatings. Rod!~
  9. Powerhouse from sunbrite supply

You should call Sunbrite supply and get their technical support on that. That is some strong stuff. You definitely don't want to throw that up on a house and have it be too strong. Beth
  10. $50,000 Start up for a new Org./Business plan

  13. Increase that professional industry edge

There is a bit of proprietary information involved in most business models that make them unique or give them an edge, but I think we may be able to accommodate others in the standardized portions like software, education (plenty of that already on the web so no secrets there) and some forms. We use a generic but customized 3 part carbon form for our proposals due to the diverse nature of our business services. Even though we do mostly wood, you'd be surprised how many different options are possible from one customer to the next. We have a set of terms and conditions which reflects much of what you can find on Delco Cleaning Systems of Fort Worth, Pressure Power Washers plus some additional verbage to reflect locally recognized and acceptable disclaimers, rights and responsibilities. For Bookkeeping, we use Quickbooks Pro which has many features available to customize templates and create forms, estimates, invoicing, payroll, scheduling, and more. Microsoft Publisher to help design our fancy schmancy literature and promotional items. We, like so many other companies have developed and implemented a significant employee handbook and service manual to help train and educate our employees. (Send me your head in a return postage pre-paid box first and then once I have shown it to you I'll ship your head back [disclaimer: head may not work properly upon re-installation]) We have call logs, previous customer estimating sheets, schedule books, work orders, equipment check out/in sheets, job completion forms, employee time off request sheets, and a host of osha related training material. How's that for a start? Rod!~
  14. Increase that professional industry edge

I agree with Tony. Certain things take years of work, and are a part of the value of your company. JJ I am not sure what you read where, but our first year we had a Nissan Sentra, and a small cold unit like what you described in it. Today our machines are Hydroteks and let's just say the Nissan is loooong gone. It served it's purpose. Be professional and do the work right, reinvest in your company and think carefully about decisions that impact the whole company and how it functions. Beth :groovy3:
  15. C.A.T.O. rained on

Yes, you get a hug, but just be gentle - please.....don't throw my back out.... We'll be there! Beth
  16. Organizations and the bulletin boards

So far, the vote looks like people miss the old PWNA BBS. It was a great board. I don't know how anything like that will come to fruition in the future but I would support it if it did. I think it could be done a little bit differently than in the past but I will keep that idea under my hat for now because I don't want to get in the way of anything that may be in the works. Unlikely, but not impossible with the new bod members if they chose to pursue it. In the meantime, we can all have a nice look back and think about it. Rod!~
  17. C.A.T.O. rained on

Ok, went back today in the 40mph winds and pad applied wtw wc tinted with about 20ml/gal of red pigment (thanks for the red pigment Rick :winkanim: ) The product actually turned out much better than the C.A.T.O. did and the customer even remarked on it being so much more even and a matte finish. Pics to come... Rod!~
  18. Organizations and the bulletin boards

I know, they are pretty talkative and you won the vote. Rod!~ btw, it's the council on the clear on present danger now aka free masons

  20. Organizations and the bulletin boards

We had a forum for TGS Site Supporters once....lasted about a day...people didn't want it. Beth
  21. Also, talk to Tom about 633-HF, add it to HD-80 mixed @ 4oz/gal with about a 1/2 cup/gal added to it, sit back and smile. It does smell like a warm beer to me though. Sort of like waking up on a bar floor.:whoops: Rod!~
  22. Weather site

Same here. It helps tremendously. Now I am wishing for a larger screen. I like the "find me" feature. It locates you so you can choose weather updates for that area. Helps when on out-of-state projects. Rod!~
  23. Short Wand

If it leaks, you can call it an OOZIE! nyuck,nyuck... Neat tweak, I like it. Rod!~
  24. Water based and possibly containing acrylic resins. I would use HD-80. Rod!~
