Chlorine Bleach vs Oxygen Bleach vs Oxalic Acid
Beth n Rod replied to a topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
That is really cool stuff Philip. So does this mean literally you are a rocket scientist? Now I can say I have made ones acquaintance. I flew some model rockets in my day but they used CO2 cannisters for propellant. Some used the (I forget what they are called) ignitable engines, but on a limited budget as a kid it was a short lived hobby. Balsa wood planes were more in the budget. :) Very interesting though. Thanks for sharing. Rod!~ btw, congrats on your getting publication in Extreme Rocketing Magazine. -
2 hose unit vs. 1 hose unit ???
Beth n Rod replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Wow Jamie, where are you getting yours? I got a two gun unit around 8k. Of course that was 3 years ago...dang, are they going up that much??? Rod!~ -
Thank you Mike, my point exactly. It's a dog eat dog world we live in that conducts business. One can do a whole bunch of rights but it is the one wrong that will stick out. That is the fate of the one you won the contract from. He made one too many wrongs and it takes only one. Obviously it was bad enough for the PM to consider someone else to take on the work. Rod!~

Truck units or Trailers ?
Beth n Rod replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I don't smell very pretty at the end of the day anyway so I don't mind. It all comes off in the shower. :) Everything is vented out the back and the only time I have fuel smell inside the cargo area is when someone doesn't put the cap back on the spare gas container. :headspin: Anyway, the van is a suggestion. I have 2 other trucks, one of which has another Hydrotek unit mounted in it. Easy access is a good point to consider. In the van, I can reach most of what I need to for oil changes and filter cleaning/replacement. The tank is the biggest obstacle. Rod!~ -
If they gave you a shot, you should bid. If you get it, it is just business. It happens to all of us. No one gets or keeps every account out there. My question is this....why aren't they happy with the other guy, and did you see anything about the work that you would see was problematic? Where do you need to be better so you avoid the other company's problems? Beth

Beth n Rod replied to Mike W's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
That was one heck of a dissertation Rick! Seems there is a bit of tension on one side or the other so let's sit back and read thoroughly. Think about it, then make your posts with respect and polite regard. All is well so far and may the discussion remain productive. Next! Rod!~ -

Rick, Just remember that I double dog dared you to wear that costume this weekend....I'll up that right here to the triple dog dare! See you Saturday morning bright eyed and bushy tailed! Beth -
Glad to hear things will be ok Mark. Never a good thing when a site goes down... We wish PWN the best! :) Beth
-
Yeah, the guy just didn't like the fact that someone else was there and threw that line out there to justify himself. Like Ken said, they called you. If there wasn't a problem to begin with, you would not have been asked to bid. Rod!~

Picking the Right Pump(s)
Beth n Rod replied to commonwealth's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
If it helps, We have a hydrotek 3000psi/8gpm 2 gun unit that uses an A.R. (Anno Reverberi) pump and it has performed well for us and is going on 3 years old. It has taken a bit of use and still cranks the pressure. A.R. pumps are less expensive than most and some models are hit-n-miss with performance and durability from what I have gleaned form reading over the years but it is a suggestion none the less. Rod!~ btw, it is a belt drive unit. -
Truck units or Trailers ?
Beth n Rod replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I like that they (sprinter vans) are very dependable. We bought the nuts and bolts version because I didn't want any extras to add to costs or need repairs. Here is another plus, when buying through Daimer/Chrysler corp. they have an option for skipping up to 3 months payments (they are figured on that basis too) which helps during the slower winter months. Yeah, the monthly is a little higher. We had bulk heads installed to protect the outer walls from dings and dents occuring from cargo shift on the inside and I had the entire cargo area herculined (roof, sides and floor). The pw'er sits at the back, the 225gal tank straddles the rear axle and the 3 stack hose reel sits behind the drivers seat mounted to the floor and wall. We bail out the hose from the side door and then start it up. All exhausts are directed out the back (additional pipes and venting) but it works great and still have 256 cubic ft left for other supplies. Anyone going to Tom and Barbara's RT will be able to see it for ideas and questions. Rod!~ -

Wood Tux
Beth n Rod replied to Mike W's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We have seen instances where a product - any product - will only last a year (or less depending), but we all know what instances those are...new wood, or hard wood. As for other instances, we have seen some finishes out perform others, we have seen some colors look better than others, and much of this seems to depend also on climate and exposure as well. Preparation of the surface will also effect the longevity. Beth -

Truck units or Trailers ?
Beth n Rod replied to itswillist's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You guys need to get with the sprinter van scene. We have a Hydrotek 2 gun system and a 225 gal tank inside the van with room to spare and enough headroom to walk around in. My crew loves it and it is very maneuverable, more so than compared to a truck or box truck. They run on diesel and come standard with a mercedes benz inline 5 cylinder turbo diesel (newer ones are coming out with a v-6 turbo diesel) and can carry up to 3800lbs (180W.B. version) while others with the higher cargo height and extended cargo bays can carry over 4200lbs. Some come as duallies too! This site shows the latest versions. Freightliner Sprinter:*Home The towing packages on them are pretty hefty too. Rod!~ -
Chlorine Bleach vs Oxygen Bleach vs Oxalic Acid
Beth n Rod replied to a topic in DIY'ers - Ask The Pro's
Bleach is a term we use to refer to the effect of whitening or any degree thereof. In the same process, the removal of ions contributing to color are the basis of the effect as I understand it. Oxidation happens at this level and involves the removal of ions but not necessarily those associated with color but an increase or decrease in the valence of the molecules when combined or replaced with hydrogen or chlorine atoms. (god, I can't believe I remember some of this stuff from H.S.) Oxidation is a combination with oxygen which can also increase or decrease the valence of an ion. This can be seen as a change in color or elimination of color. The effect is technically bleaching. Sulfuric acid and ammonium perchlorate combination will also result in an explosion due to the rapid combination with oxygen. I have seen this in the explosions outside of Henderson NV. when a plant blew up knocking the town a few inches away...literally! Actually, there were 2 major explosions which registered 3-3.5 on the richter scale and I lived about 3-4 miles away. This was pepcon... reviewjournal.com -- News: Pepcon Explosion Anniversary http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/pepcon/misc.mov Rocket Fuel Plant Explosion Investigation, accident Reconstruction Scared the (*#&$(*#) out of me! We have a Whisper Washer we got back in 1999 that still runs like a champ. For us one unit is enough since we do mainly wood and not too much concrete... You can play with that too if you like. Are you going up to the ACR round table this weekend? Beth :sunshine: :groovy3:
-
We have a couple of Hydrotek skids. When we got the first one, we felt it was more than we wanted to spend too. When we got the second one we didn't feel that way. If this is your first industrial machine ( not a box store one) I understand your hesitancy. I would suggest looking at a few different machines and see what is going to best suit you. We have heard very good things about several manufacturers. Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples, look at spec sheets for each machine you are considering so you can see side by side what you are getting or missing. We did that and it really helped us to choose. Beth :cup: :groovy3: p.s. we are not that far from you - if you want to come look at our units once we take them out of winterization you are welcome to do it, pull the trigger and see how they feel. Let me know :)
