  1. How have websites helped?

You need to treat your website the same way you do other advertising you pay for - like the phone book. It needs to be able to generate new business. Beth

  3. Cool Feed Scanner for receipts and cards

Chris, Many moons ago I worked for a software company that got its beginnings on a product really similar to this one. It was a document imaging company with web based search solutions, as well as software for document management. Basically, this is a scanner. It may convert the OCR to a file compatible with other programs and work fine for you. A scanner and decent OCR software will yield the same result. Is this a good deal? Ask yourself if you really see yourself using it or will you do it for a while and stop. If this is a process that you can easily implement as a part of your work routine then it may be a good fit for you, but to me that's the key. OCR - Reviews and Price Comparisons – from PC Magazine Ocr Scanning Software - compare the options here http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HP010771031033.aspx If it were me, and if I was going to scan and keep all this paper in a digital format, I would get a decent software package and a decent scanner, and forget the cute little one.... It's ok :) I fixed it. No harm done ;) Beth
  6. Favorite Woodtux Formulas

We use it for the most part as it comes out of the can. Only on fences do we thin it at about 10-20% with water. We want it to perform well and cutting it too much will shorten it's lifespan as we understand it. Personally, I don't feel qualified to second guess the manufacturer on a formula they devised for a specific purpose. Rod!~

  10. Prices on jobs?

I would have to agree with the others in qualifying the customer wants a repeat service based company or a one timer. The Price may look attractive to those customers you won't get anyway and frankly you don't want them if this is their motivator. Lowballers are a nuisance to out business but they fill a need for those who cannot afford much to begin with. Often I have found that the people looking for the lowest price are the ones who complain the most and try to get as much as possible for the least outlay. Not a blanket analysis but a common one. 14. permanent marker on driveway ..

I think I would get a before and after for sure - or several. This is an opportunity to touch other parents in a way they can relate to. How many parents have to solve this or a similar type problem due to their child's emerging creativity? People advertise that they correct homeowner errors, well here's one that is not hubby oriented. Maybe this is another example of things that happen at home, and how your expertise can correct them. Just an idea.... Beth
  15. The Economy; how do you feel about it?

Yes, humankind is progressing at an accelerated rate and this rate is out of it's control. Changes are quick and as history has shown our inability to cope with them will lead to some very big problems. Humankind has always demonstrated laxness in restraint and a predilection towards indulgence. Humankind has been fortunate to listen to the many who spoke out against our world leaders stupidity. But now, that voice is being squelched. Government is making it harder to make public our opinions and protest it's actions. Dubya himself has said that anyone who is against his plan is against the country. He is claiming heracy of anyone who disagrees. How long before our freedoms are taken completely away and our glorious country is converted into a dictatorship? That is where it is heading currently. He has even entertained the notion of creating an act that would in the time of war put off any elections and keep the current elected in office indefinitely. Here is acceleration out of control. I went through those drills too and was scared because I didn't know what was going on. That passed but I learned then that humankind does not value life as it should, instead life is used as a leverage to bend humankinds will with the threat of annihilation. Now that the threat has subsided, do you think it will go away? No, the big guys are just building stronger bunkers so they can have at it again. Back then, neither side had prepared a protection, now they have. Here comes Korea and China and Iran. Guess who is king of the hill now and who it is they want to knock off? Does anyone else see the cross hairs over our country? I am glad you are able to have such strong optimism about the future. But you are not in the seat calling the shots. Such complacency is foreign to me and will never be accepted. Some who read may start to label us respectively as optimist and pessimist and pick a side. I look at myself as a person who is not docile and not willing to let my welfare be entrusted to those who are so willing to deny my it based upon their agenda. I take action in the now and not wait until it becomes a problem in the future. I never have been much of a wait and see person because I am not conducting my life if I am doing that, I would be allowing external influences to take hold and I have no control at that point and someone else would be conducting my life...like a slave or a sheep. Jeff, I should have met you in high school...who knows the trouble we would have gotten into. Rod!~

  17. Good weather

We do keep track of how many sq ft per hour we wash, and each job we do the work order is written up and the crew told how long we estimate the job should take based upon the size and the footage we have measured. I agree that 75 sq ft per hour is a good starting point. Over time with technique you will get faster. It is important to know how fast you are working. Know your deck measurements so you have your footage, and time yourself. Now if this seems ridiculous think about this.... Time is money. employees make an hourly wage regardless of if it is your own personal labor or you have to pay someone you spend more in labor as each moment passes your square footage is a key factor in determining job costs if you don't know material costs you don't know how much profit you made Time and materials are really important. Keep asking questions. :) Beth
  18. The Economy; how do you feel about it?

How about, you cyrogenically freeze yourself and when they thaw you out in the future you can have your wish? oh, don't forget to take a can of rs with ya too. You can be a blast from the past. Back on topic though, Your posts sound like an extreme conservative (by definition) in denial of anything wrong with the state of affairs. Many (who do not read these boards) may not share in your optimism. I for one do not feel optimistic about things because the focus is on the wrong ones. I just read an article in the post about a delegate who is part of the general assembly debating on global warming and the death penalty and this guy wants to derail the whole focus to outlaw fake testicle parts being displayed on ball hitches. It expands into hauling dead animals in which if their body parts show they can get a fine for that too. I mean, it is just ridiculous the amount of energy put into nonsense and the avoidance of the more pressing issues that has me casting the perspectives I have. btw Jeff, what's your position on a beer once it gets hot? Rod!~

  20. Starting out

    1. water 2. buy a pre-manufactured product and save on the liabilities. If you are mixing your own chems you become the manufacturer and are susceptible to severe penalties if not properly labeled and compliant or missing any pertinent msds. No biggey if you never get caught, but there is that potential. 3. refer to #2 Rod!~

  23. The Economy; how do you feel about it?

I am not as well versed in all this as Jeff and others are but in the scheme of things, I do see past the nice picture the government would have us believe. Metaphysical, nah, I just beamed down here to play with you guys. My phaser is set on stun as Rick pointed out. Rod!~
