  7. Interest in a get together, or roundtable in Arizona?

Scott, Use local phone books, the Blue Book, any other place that people have ads to find those who may not be online. Call them. Follow up with emailing info, or faxing info or both. Set a date and time, or they will not think it is going to happen. You should be able to say it is here, this day this time. When we used to hold round tables here in MD, we started with like...12-15 people or so and 1 speaker. It grew every year. We have had as many as 35 people attend (which next to Tom's seems small) Then PWNA launched a MD chapter and now they don't do much at all. We stopped holding round tables when the Maryland PWNA chapter formed because we didn't want to have a conflict. Maybe I should start the round tables back up here too. ;) After all there is no action, so there can't be a conflict. Point is, give folks something they can say yes or no to. You don't have to put money down to get that far. Find a quiet restaurant with a room for larger parties, or something free like that. Beth
  8. What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?

Wow! I feel like mine would pale in comparison should anyone choose to do so. But, these are what I feel have contributed to our business' success, here goes... I have worked in wood related industries from lumber-jacking, sawmill processing and cabinet manufacturing. In other areas; I have been in management, casino auditing, sales and even done some cooking in a couple of nice restaurants. All have lent one aspect to our business and taught me team work, management (personal, business and employee), sales and marketing, and most importantly...wood. I have always enjoyed working with wood and am intrigued by its nature. The knowledge I have developed throughout my 'employment' stage has helped me become better at restoring it than I would have with out that knowledge. Now that I am self-employed, I have not turned back and to try and think of doing so is very unpleasant in itself to contemplate. There is something to be said about being in control of one's own life. btw...I am in good company here on TGS! Rod!~
  9. Anyone know taxes?

Hire an accountant. There are different ways you can depreciate things, and what is best for your business at this time is something you need an accountant's help to determine. Beth

  12. What did you do before becoming a Pw'er?

I was in the software/hardware industry for 14 years in sales and management both. It satisfied my inner geek. Guess this BBS is an extension of that...never really disconnected completely from that part of my background! I also love to write, and am thankful for any opportunity to do just that! Beth
  13. Acorn Stains

As I understand it..... It will take out tannin stains, yes, but it will also etch concrete if you are not careful. Beth :cup:

  16. Daily Motivation

Some words I live by: Live each day as it is your last because the future is not guaranteed. We often do what is easy when we should be doing what is right. Conquer the sloth within and know the difference. Act responsibly and be responsible for your actions. Don't not lay blame! That is the act of transferring responsibility. Remember the difference between an experience and an opinion is judgment and the unwillingness to consider any other possibilities. Live impeccably. It is the way to peace. We are the product of our environment as long as we choose to be. If you suddenly have a mood change, ask yourself; Is this my mood or someone else’s? Awareness keeps you from channeling others energy and becoming subject to its circumstance. Don't think lightly, this is already automatic and requires the least effort. Think thoroughly with patience enough to explore any possibility and do so without judgment. This takes effort and discipline to maintain for more than a few minutes at a time. It is becoming known as 'Meditation' these days that we should be doing with full attention on developing compassion and empathy by losing the need for an ego which is an indulgence in the ‘self’’ which negates the whole in favor of the one. Knowing your limits is the first step towards breaking them. Breaking them gives you new limits to surpass. Remember always: Emotions are a choice. Patience, discipline, respect and responsibility helps to correct a bad one. Correct the ones that give the choice to hate by learning not to judge. Correct the ones that enable anger by living contentedly with the understanding that no one was put here for your benefit and neither are you for anyone else's. Life is the test of discipline over indulgence. Consider with wonder that we chose to be here to experience sensations. The test is learning to break the addiction to them. While they may only be words, it is the attitude we have towards them that determines how they can either effect personal change or strengthen our ignorance. May they help anyone, they have helped me. Rod!~
