To me, the most important thing is you have to have some will. You have to go out and start talking to people and asking questions and pounding the pavement for work. Your phone will not magically ring if you don't. If you want to succeed, you have to make the inroads to success yourself. You also have to make smart thoughtful decisions. You can't just do things half way and expect come out on top. Beth :cup: no coffee was spilled during the creation of this post :cup:

Wood Restoration Photo Contest
Beth n Rod replied to Russell Cissell's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Here's an Ipe deck we did. Has a lovely water feature in between the sections of it. Deck was washed with about 2 oz. of HD-80, neutralized with Citralic. Beth -

Check the "Look What's New" and "Product Q & A Reviews" forums. There is plenty of info on different products and what people have thought of them in there. Otherwise, I return you to our regularly appearing helpful posters. Rod!~ -

Pressure Washing Rip Off
Beth n Rod replied to Palmetto Home and Deck's question in Residential Pressure Washing
FWIW: I believe that the contractor was in violation of the consumer protection act by not giving a cap on the cost expectancy for the job. There is a requirement that it be in writing and clearly indicating what the process will be for. A start and end date is mandatory if it is to hold up in court. We take the time to list in the specifications that we are cleaning the siding and stating what type it is upon inspection, what we will be removing (mildew and algae) and the total cost of the job. We give a 90 day window for start and completion times. Getting the customer to sign off on it is very important. The exception is if they give you a CC by phone, then you may insert the wording "phone order" into the signature line along with the CC information. If the customer is home at the time of service, get their signature as well. Otherwise, mail them the receipt with the CC info on it so that it does not fall into the wrong hands by a person coming to their door. While this contractor is not a low-baller, he has proven to be a rip-off artist No one likes to be popped with a bill that far out of expectation and even if his crew did use that much which is not out of the realm of possibility, the cost is absolutely astronomical especially if they used mostly bleach. $10/gal is not unreasonable but $23!!! Also, the woman was a little sparse in her part to ask the question of how much they anticipate using in order to gauge the cost before accepting the services. This type of contractor is the one that gives us all a bad reputation and it is in what we do that sets a higher standard for contract negotiations with the client that helps the public at large still have confidence in using us. Ron, He has not been on since FEB of this year when his new baby was born. If he comes back to BBS land, I'm sure he'll fix it. Have a nice day! :groovy2: Beth :cup:

How to play: Post the song's Title and Artist. Your song's title must contain one word that was in the previous song's title. Example: Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen Your choice: Born to be wild - Steppenwolf Have fun! Beth

Clean fence with a Shuflo set-up
Beth n Rod replied to Roger Oakley's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
It makes a few of us think back to when we first started and the way our methods have evolved since then. Don't sell yourself short on the size of the job or the self-imposed lack of glamor in the work because no matter where you go you are needed to help those who own wood structures to keep them in good shape to last much longer than they would otherwise. You are establishing a standard there in the UK so look over your shoulder every now and then because others will soon follow you and your examples. Nice job on the fence and hats off for your dedication to working in an area that wouldn't normally allow you to by taking your equipment over the little foot bridge. Your coming along just fine on your work you are posting pics of. Looks real good. Rod!~ -
Wow. John, you are most welcome. Glad it all worked out. You're all welcome. I'm a little biased, but I do agree you can learn a great deal and network with some wonderful pros on this site. Beth :cup:

Our company name is a DBA. See Dirt Run! It encompasses many angles for cleaning of all sorts and many people just love the name. There are companies who have different names for divisions of their company that perform different services that don't necessarily have much to do with the original. All in all, it is the bookkeeping part that will be the challenge and when using a CPA, they charge you separately for each as it is like it's own account or entity. What name are you thinking of changing to? Have you thought of adding a slogan to convey the other services? Rod!~
