Conifer type trees planted within 20' of a house will cause mildew and algae to grow more readily due to the high pollen releases as they drop their needles. Once a year in the areas affected. North and east sides especially if sheltered by large tree growth and there is a high moisture condition in the area. Rod!~

Thanks Mike, I read the reviews and it sounds like a book I'd like to read. In a world full of dogma, egoists, pragmatism and moral stagnation it is nice to find a mind not afraid to break the status quo and help the world consider there is other ways and possibilities. Like a favorite lyricist of mine said "what if all we learned is wrong?" [Geoffe Tate-Queensryche] Rod!~

sort of new at this...
Beth n Rod replied to douseahouse's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Do a test spot in order to find out. Put some water on the wood to see if it repels it or beads up. If it does, there is sealer present that needs to be removed. The rail sections will probably exhibit this anyway. Take a look in our vendors section and research their products. I could give you the answers here but they do not apply to all situations and so I am doing you a favor by asking you to take plenty of time to soak up some information. Once you have done that, you may still have questions but they will be more in the order of clarification and we would be better suited to answer them at this point. This also keeps me from having to write a novel on wood restoration. ;) Keep us posted. Rod!~ -
It's a do or regret you didn't type thing. If the customer doesn't get it taken care of, the gutters will be torn off the fascia causing more expensive repair or replacement. Ice dams work like this: Snow falls on a roof and those with poor insulation get a melt during the day, this is followed by a freeze at night, the next day a thaw cycle and the next night a freeze. After a few days of this, the whole thing builds into a full gutter of ice and it begins to freeze above the roof line. Now you are adding weight to the equation, then as the thaw/freeze cycles continue in addition to more potential snow accumulations add to a sheet of ice that builds up on the roof. This ice can break loose creating a tremendous strain on a gutter system that is only meant to hold water weight for the short duration. Finally the gutter nails loose their grip and the gutter begins to pull away from the house creating a dangerous situation should it fall on someone or something. This creates problems in the fascia, water intrusion into the attic and further water damage in the main walls including electrical problems. Relatively, a couple hundred dollars to clear an ice dam or a couple thousand or more in serious and widespread potential water damage to the house. Most people once they are informed of the possibility of water getting into their house they are sold. Rod!~

It is bugging the heck out of me...Who is John Galt??? It triggered a memory but thanks to all my college lifestyle in my early 20's the memory cells are not serving me on this one. Some might think of it as a bad case of tenesmus. Rod!~

Travis, We did what you are considering doing back in 1999. It was worth it to us. Beth -
Ron, This thead is really bothering you isn't it? Did you ever notice how I don't go to your site and try to detract from it? I respect your site now show some here. Rod!~

I am surprised that no one sets up consecutive services. What I mean is that just because you have cleaned the gutters doesn't mean they are going to stay clean till next season. The idea I had was to set up a schedule of service based upon tree coverage in the area. For example (tweak this as necessary): twice a month for 2 months till the fall season is over and the winds seem to stop redepositing them. Also, set this same thing up for a couple of times a month in the spring when all the new blooms, seedlings and other deciduous materials are finished. This would help to give the best service possible and keep the gutters clean longer and make more money from each customer in doing so. For those in the northern latitudes prone to snow and ice, this is the perfect time to leave flyer's and info regarding ice dam removal if you have a hot water unit to do it with. Thoughts, suggestions, comments??? Rod!~

It doesn't! John just felt proud of TGS enough to want to post about it. Nothing wrong with that. Thanks John for your support. This is also an indicator for those who have made donations to see how well the site is doing (not so different from a quarterly stock report, etc). We (the admins) take it into consideration for the sake of the members in whom we are trying to make this bbs work for. By adding a directory and a gallery, we have added value to TGS that it's members can benefit by and the amount of traffic it brings in also correlates to the amount of indexing going on by the spiders that makes it easier for customers to find them. It's a win-win and some people like John have respect for our efforts and this is a way of showing it. Rod!~

I like the layout. Easy to navigate. I might suggest adding to the color scheme though... ;) Looks like you are off to a nice start with the site. Beth

A thought here... It's not upsetting more than it is principal. The contract is specifying one thing and now it is being amended without concern to the contractor. This kind of inconsiderate mentality needs to stop. We are not at the beckon call of people. In order to have a successful business, we need to have measures in place to make it run better. A contract helps in setting up the guidelines and keeping things on track for both parties. Breach of contract, material or immaterial can be a headache to sort out if you have many of them in place and have planned your routing to make your time on the roads as effective and efficient as possible based upon them. The point being, run the company not the company running you. This is what is bothering Mr. Balazs. A smart concern. He may have had been "planning" on certain things resulting from the fulfillment of this contract 'on time' now it is throwing a wrench in this and that can take time to sort out with a number of people instead of a relative few. This impacts his ability to make headway and productivity is held back. Yeah, he can chase the money to make up for it but the plain fact is that now he is 'behind'. Rod!~

The problem I understand is that under the terms of the contract you anticipated the cleaning needs and what it would take to get them a quality job and if done frequently on time you would be able to give a price break knowing that with the cleaning happening at a certain interval it is easier to clean and when the interval between cleanings gets lengthened, the cleaning takes longer due to the additional accumulation. Is this what you are talking about? In the future, I would include a default clause that specifically nullifies the pricing given if the criterion is not met and reverting the price to a higher one to help defray the costs of additional time, supplies and fuel expended not to mention administrative costs for having to alter your schedules on their behalf. This takes time and I am sure this is where you are feeling some of the burden as you have done your part and now due to circumstances beyond your control you are being asked to take a hit albeit non-intentional but never the less you are being put off for someone else's delays. This may also delay the next contract being put into place by 4 months as well which effects your revenue stream and makes it hard to make accurate projections that you need in order to plan ahead. We all have bills to pay and when something like this happens it throws things off in more ways than just a schedule for work. It affects ones ability to make payments and bills according to contracts in place and we all know that the collectors don't give us the luxury of being able to be put them off for 4 months without it appearing on a credit report. Thanks Ron. We think it's a very nice addition to TGS, one that just makes sense. If you're reading this and wondering what we're talking about, click here to list your business. Beth :cup: brewing... :cup:

(in the voice of Shrek) Sure! it's big enough, but do you think he's compensating for something? ;) JK John. I am sure we are all wanting the big Tonka Truck from our playtime in the sand box. But Dang!!! You would need to buy your own oil empire to afford to drive it around the block!!! Rod!~

It should. HD-80 affects any of the synthetic polymers in this case, rubber. I have not used it for such a project but I will let Russ chime in here for further clarification. Rod!~

My new brochure and flyer - take a look!
Beth n Rod replied to Hydroservices's topic in Documents, Forms & Proofs
Well, I drink what's on sale in the stores...but I like it mild rather than too strong. If the Starbucks beans are on sale I'll get them, if not, oh well... Only drink it in the morning. I'm not an all day coffee drinker. I also like my coffee with cream and sugar. Beth -
This scares me, but I have a deck question...
Beth n Rod replied to Scott Stone's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Scott... Pics please. Is it paint or soild stain? If they just bought it did the prior owner leave any cans or a history of what is installed? Also you mention this is a cabin....are we talking...wood? As in logs? Beth
