moldy basement

Contact a mold remediation company and find out where they get there supplies. There are problems associated with using bleach indoors and you would not want the liabilities for it. If you choose to do it yourself w/o the input of a mold remediation specialist, than use a precarb on it instead. No fumes, no causticity and easier to rinse without worries of residue or further mold occurring from your cleaning. If they have a mold issue that is reoccurring, than this would indicate a source of the problem. Locate this and you solve the problem. Rod!~ -
PWWSS (Power Washing Wives Support System) Forum?
Beth n Rod replied to Celeste's question in The Club House
Many husband/wife teams are in todays business scope and the difficulties they face in business can also add to the challenges they will face in their relationship. I will be the first to state that each of us brings a valuable skill to the table and without the other we would surely have struggled to keep up. The office work, the phone calls, the responsibilities of staying in business, the employees, the ordering, the scheduling, the research, would all fall on one person and that is a big pair of shoes to fill. Beth brings a skill set and I bring another skill set. They compliment each other well, but the one thing that makes it all work is Communication! This is the basis of the support group here to help communicate amongst the ones who don't really get the chance to talk to others who are going through or have gone through some tough times and need help to navigate their way in order to keep on going. Some couples have come to the point that work is all they talk about and talking about their relationship comes a distant second if at all. This is a terrible thing to have happen because a business can ruin what would otherwise have been a great marriage. Open your minds and share your experiences, how you handled them and what you think you could have done differently in retrospect. This is a great use of TGS. All kidding aside, this is actually quite a serious venture here and we would appreciate it if all could take some time and perhaps realize that this could be a significant turning point for those who really need it. Let's continue in the spirit of helpfulness, it is hard enough for some people to come forward as it is. Rod!~ -

HD-80....pain in the you know what
Beth n Rod replied to Palmetto Home and Deck's topic in Chemicals & Safety
Len, I am so sorry to hear about your injury. I was burned with HD-80 once but it was very small. We were cleaning a kitchen hood, and one of the guys went past me with a sprayer. A drop of HD flew off the tip and onto my leg. I neutralized it right away, but had a small pox like burn for weeks. On the bright side, you can lounge on your tummy like a roman and eat bon bons for a while. :) Feel better soon... Beth -
Removing Wolman's F&P
Beth n Rod replied to ACSTravis's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
It's not a bad product, it's just not one we use anymore. We prefer a couple of other things that seem to be a little more durable in our experience. Beth -

Celeste and I have been bouncing several ideas around for some time. We figure that there are plenty of couples doing this and that the ladies need some support too. Beth -

Not everyone who is going speaks up on the BBS's. I have spoken to a couple folks over the last few days who are going. Beth -

You can only work as long as it is safe for you to do so. We will not be sealing until the temps drop some. We are only washing. Our clients are sympathetic too, and if they aren't we educate them. Every now and then you get one who doesn't care how hot it is. But then, they are not out in it. Beth

Deck Preventive Maintenance
Beth n Rod replied to smokey51's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Those are important points to bring up and it's good to help make sure the customer knows the pitfalls of using their deck for other things. We suggest caster wheel trivets for their potted plants and avoiding using cast iron furniture as it will leave black rust marks. Giving a list of items to attend to helps them to get the most out of the work you do and makes future work easier and in some cases less expensive to maintain. Rod!~ -
First rule of thumb is: before giving your price, tell them what they are getting, the precautions you need to take, the amount of time you expect it to take and the possible dangers that are faced with working up on the roof. People tend to only think of the price and none of the other things that go into it. It's not ignorance on their part but mostly lack of knowledge and understanding of what the job encompasses including the care you will take in avoiding doing damage which can be very possible by those who are lesser experienced. Giving them the scope of what is involved gives them a better appreciation of what you will be doing for them up there and the particular danger that is a part of the work you do which means you must take extra time to be secure up there. Without this information, it boils down to; the roof needs to be washed and I am going to pay for it...but how much do I think it is worth to me to have it done? Rod!~

It will work like a charm. Perfect application for the product. We have stripped that product many times. Beth -
Sealmaxx
Beth n Rod replied to Kennedy's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
You say it is redwood...don't expect it to turn out like PT lumber. The wood's natural color is not the same, neither is the way you treat it or the results. Beth :cup: p.s. TedG - welcome to TGS. We expect you to follow the rules and post professionally. :lgangry: -

Beth n Rod posted a topic in Industry News & Events
I wanted to let everyone know, that I am planning to cover CAA in an article in the PWNA column in Cleaner Times Magazine. The article will cover all of the participating PWNA Member companies and CAA their projects Nationwide. Please contact me to let me know you have a project you are planning to do. Once you complete the job, I'll also interview you to get all the details about the work you performed and how it went. One very, very important note...photos. Please take lots and lots of high resolution photos. (at least 300 DPI or 3 megapixles) This is your chance to show the industry what you have done to help in your community. Looking forward to working with all of you! Beth -
Craig must be related to the human torch if the heat is not getting to him. (ouch, don't stand so close dude! Flame.....OFF! ) ;) Today's temp's are going up over 100* and with the humidity at 85%, it is going to be feeling like 120*. I am not looking forward to this week as it is supposed to be this way through thursday...my crews are looking a bit wilted. Time to be like a camel and drink water till it comes out the other end. Stay hydrated out there! Every 15 minutes drink water and take a cool down session by wetting your extremities (arms and legs) which helps the blood cool faster. Either wear a cap or wet your head or both to keep it cool too. This helps to avoid a heat stroke. Rod!~

Sap coming from knots
Beth n Rod replied to tabbeus's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
What did you use to clean it with to begin with? What did you coat it with? What type of wood is it? I usually remove the sap with goof off. The problem may occur a time or two until the sap is exhausted for within. Rod!~ -

if you......you might be a pressure washer
Beth n Rod replied to HotShot's question in The Club House
If you like to heckle the employee's at the local HD or lowes about the pw'ers they have for sale... If you make some of your business connections in the stores stocking products you would not use... If you like to answer questions with the worst possible answer to get a reaction out of the customer..... If your favorite pick up line is "how would you like to come over and check out my rig?" .... If the police officer stops you for speeding and gives you the smart aleck question of 'where's the fire?' and you reply "I don't know but if you give me directions maybe I have enough water in my tank to help put it out"... If you equate the directions of the world working as "Righty tighty, Lefty loosey"... If your trailer and rig have more insurance benefits than you do... If your wife asks why you are bringing teflon tape to bed... If your wife has threatened to divorce you if buy one more piece of equipment.... If you are paranoid about telling anyone your secret methods... If a potential customer asks you "Is this your best price?" and you answer with "no, not really, I can add on a few hundred and take the next week off".... Rod!~ -

We've been in the 90's with humidity in the 85%+ range and little to no breeze. The heat just hangs on you and feels like your being steam cooked. I sweat so much that by the time I get back into the vehicle, my shirt and pants are literally dripping wet. We go through several gallons of water and frequent wet down sessions just to lower our body temps from working on these decks. Avg. temp on the deck has been between 110*-115* while the ambient temp is 95* out on the grass. The dog days ... ... ... ... ... are here~:` Rod!~
