As you have noticed we have new skins installed. On of them, is called TGS Juice. To view it go to the lower left hand corner of the page in the main Forums. Once you have selected it, you will see two little guys with great big eyes a the top of the page, and over one of them, is an empty dialog bubble....That's where you come in! We're having a contest.... What should these little bubble dudes be saying? Come up with the dialog that goes in the animation bubble! Post it here. One rule, keep it clean. So have fun! Check out the Juice skin, and then tell us...what are the little big eyed dudes trying to tell us all? Beth

stripper help please
Beth n Rod replied to sjpressurewashin's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Use a sodium hydroxide based product such as HD-80, F-18, or Tiberstrip Pro. Do a test spot. If it cuts through it, you are most likely not looking at an acrylic. Apply the product to a difficult area for your test such as a vertical surface where the product is more heavily applied and still intact. Remember to neutralize your test area. Beth -
WTW, Rain & Scheduling
Beth n Rod replied to Proclean's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
James, If I could step in on that question? The maintenance is relatively easy as we have been doing maintenance for the past couple of years now on WT with WTW. We wash with a weak HD-80 (equivalent 2-3oz/gal) and neutralize. This gets anything off the surface and leaves the wood clean for recoating. Spray application is the best method along with back padding to ensure even distribution. http://forums.thegrimescene.com/showthread.php?t=4576&highlight=Western+Cedar If this helps any. Our customers have been pleased with the performance and the maintenance ability of the product. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4316 Here is another one for you. Back to you Paul. Rod!~ -

John, What you have been given is a wonderful, golden opportunity to spread your wings. Sure it's scary, but haven't other things in your life given you butterflies and apprehension? Look at it this way,you are going to embark on a wonderful adventure that will allow you the freedom to grow in ways you have not dreamed of yet. If we can help, call us. We're really big on helping dreams to come true. With some elbow grease, they can. Beth

deck cleaners
Beth n Rod replied to A and J POWERWASHING's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We use both EFC-38 by ESI and F-10 by PressureTek. We find F-10 is safer on newer finishes than EFC-38 is, if your goal is to clean and maintain. EFC-38 works well for cleaning decks that have sealer remnants that need to be removed without performing a more full and harsh strip, since it does contain stripping agents. Another Ipe deck...builder's dream
Beth n Rod posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
This one is beautiful as well. The builder also did the hardscaping and landscaping and is photographing the deck, pool area and flower beds for a contest their company is entering. The photos don't do the pool area justice. I only photographed the deck, not the rest of the yard. They have water fountains streaming out in places, and a build in jacuzzi area with waterfalls....lights galore....wow. Hope the builder wins his contest! Enjoy! Beth -
Sustainable Green Home with Ipe and Mahogany...
Beth n Rod posted a question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
This job was truly cool....way cool. The house is a major rebuild and is a sustainable "green" home. All the materials from the old home were donated to www.secondchanceinc.org . The new home boasts features that are all environmentally friendly and is just beautiful. The owner is a Realtor who built this with her husband, and went so far as to get her general contractors license and hire all the trades herself to work on the home. It is truly a marvel to walk through!!! We were hired to clean and seal her newly built ipe deck and screened porch with a mahogany ceiling. Her husband built the deck and porch. It is marvelous. Here are a few shots. They simply do not do this home justice, as there is so much to it on the inside as well. This home is due to be featured in The Washington Post this fall. We are thrilled to have been a part of this project. What a cool home! Beth -

M-5 X-Jet...Low pressure Chem hose..how Long..??
Beth n Rod replied to Buckeye's question in Residential Pressure Washing
The length of hose may also be dependant upon the gpm of your machine in correllation with the ventury principal and it's rating. ie; The higher the gpm, the longer your hose can be and still draw chem. Rod!~ -
We let the couple we bought our house from rent back from us as well before we moved in here years ago. Worked out well. They had the same issue, the house they were buying was under cosntruction. Good luck! :) Beth

PTP has it's benefits as do the other woods. It holds a sealer better than the harder woods do but requires maintenance every couple of years. Ipe' requires a penetrating oil and to keep it looking good, annual cleaning and treatment are required. Cedar can be used for the rails (spindles and such) but not recommended for the top cap of the rail. It is very soft and can be damaged with an unskilled pressure washer operator. Also, under regular use, the wood fibers can be easily damaged making it hard for most sealers to hold onto the substrate (the part just below the surface) leading to failure and the need for annual maintence including sanding. Regarding supply of Ipe', I would contact deck builders and find out what they can get. If this does not pan out, then look into the web for sources that can ship into your area but again beware of any deck builder who is not familiar to working with Ipe'. It requires an end sealer on each cut in order to avoid moisture loss which can lead to warping and cupping. Any of these woods would be great on a deck but used in coordinance with their capabilities. I have worked on some very beautiful decks that have been a combination of all 3. The substructure was built with pressure treated pine, the rails and lattice enclosure below comprised of cedar while the rail caps and floor were completed with Ipe'.
