  1. pump oil

1 qt should do it for most pumps. It's capacity should also be listed in the manual. Some people like synthetics over regular 30w. Regular changes is the main thing to me. Rod!~
  2. Gas prices

Airplane is a riot! We have that one also. Beth
  3. Gas prices

  4. Gas prices

  5. Gas prices

Philip... If Rod and I are being vague, it is because we don't want to get involved in this discussion any more than either of us has. Our stand in this thread, is to clearly communicate the requirement of not calling names, bashing, flaming or the like. Other than that, you are right when you say we are only willing to discuss but so much here. Enjoy the thread. :) Beth
  6. Gas prices

While I can appreciate what you are conveying, the heart of the matter is their are rules in place to help each other conduct themselves with respect and courtesy towards each other and keep the conversations productive. Each may label themselves as they like as you have demonstrated and that is fine. To all: It is crossing the line to label someone else who hasn't established that parameter for themselves. In my opinion, the labels only help to create boundaries and sides in which battles are defined. Take FOX for an example. Point made in one sentence. It is wholly unproductive as we can see in our own political system with so many taking sides and none agreeing on anything except how to make more money at the expense of the voters. Politics are at the root of our nations governmental failure and our citizens dividedness. We are a community of people discussing the items of relevance to our trade here. This is networking, educational discussion, experience, opinions and place to find answers. Politics does not give answers by any stretch but misleads or puts off by unscrupulous contrivances in order to manipulate others. Period. That is not what TGS is about. Heres my .02 on the topic: Gas Prices Gas prices are going up and I notice the trend that each spring they shoot up predictably day by day. .01-.02 here and more in others but in a weeks time we have gone from 2.89 to 3.11. Why? Is there a shortage? Does the price change for oil companies like clockwork? Gee, it must be nice to be an oil field owner to dictate the costs of oil in sync with a seasonal thermometer. Or...is it the fact that people start to travel more, outdoor machines, construction equipment become more widely used and construction business becomes more active. Fuel consumption rates go up during these times so they raise the prices and make the most out of the peak demand. Electric companies do the same thing. In the fall they begin to decline. Why? because the season of higher fuel consumption is ending and they have made the money they want. Now they can play nice and lower the price of oil for heating purposes and make it look like its a humanitarian effort and raise them again the next spring and justify it accordingly. It's all a power play. And since we are all dependent on fuel for our transportation and to power our equipment we are forced to pay whatever the oil companies dictate. How else can we power our equipment? Unfortunately we rely on the oil companies to give us that too. Ethanol, sugar gas, bio fuel, propane are all under subsidies of the major oil companies and they dictate the prices as well. Due to environmental and hazardous natures, we are forbidden to produce it ourselves. Needless to say we are all trapped because of the infrastructure and technology we have allowed ourselves to be dependent upon. Politicians and legislators are powerless to do anything about it because these oil companies support special interests and fund the government in ways I will not discuss publicly and therefore I productively pose the question to all here...how do you contend with the anticipated peak of the prices you will be paying? Rod!~ ps-no labels were used here in the process of making a post. ;) btw, Iraq was just the beggining of the petroleum wars. It's going to get a lot worse folks. Time to start rethinking things.
  7. First deck strip

Yes.... but that is true of many products. Beth

  10. Gas prices

If everyone in the US put the same amount of passion and energy into bringing these kinds of issues to the politicians as is being exhibited here, the country would be a better place as a result of it. Keep in mind as you post that all other posters should be addressed with respect and courtesy. No labeling or name calling. It just isn't acceptable by anyone. Thank you. Rod!~
  11. Gas prices

Ok.... We have been out working, missed this thread completely till we were tipped off that it was getting out of line. Chill out guys. It is a heated subject, and these are opinions and personal feelings coming out. We don't want to shut the thread, but you all know how we feel about personal attacks and name calling. Stop, chill, take a deep breath.... Beth
  12. Post Construction Cleanup Pricing Help

Don't sweat it, you may not have it yet but it may fall your way if you keep in touch. They may have went with the lowest bidder who was available immediately. Many times the contractor can get burned on these because they don't always know what they are doing. This is how we launched into PCCU. Got the job because the company left the contractor hanging and wouldn't come back to make it right. Been working for them ever since. Rod!~
  13. SH on Aluminum

An acid may bring out the pitting and help to alleviate the issue. SH will eat aluminum but acid will polish it in a sense. We had this problem with a painted aluminum but we just bought a can of paint to match, masked the area and re-painted the frames. Cost: about $15.00 Rod!~
  14. Miss Me?

Ok, who left the door open??? Welcome back Mike. No mushy stuff, just get busy posting will ya? Rod!~
  15. Very nice!!! Way to go! Beth
  16. I thought it might be a good idea to post about how to train your eyes. We have all posted about chems, about dwell times, about masking and things like that. So how is it you can follow the steps folks describe and not get to where you want to be? To me, over time you can see certain things as you work, and you know what they mean and you know you have to deal with them. Hence, tips to train your eyes.... I'll post a couple examples to get us started.... when you are stripping a deck, you notice the subtle change in color of the finish you are removing...might become milky or opaque, and a brownish liquid may rise to the top of the board when you go back to seal, you look for areas that didn't quite all come off, and you make sure to sand those so the board looks even Next! Beth :cup:
  17. Miss Me?

Hi Mike, Great seeing you again. You can change the look in the lower left hand corner on the main forums area.... Enjoy! Beth
  18. Fix a finish

My take on it from the first pic appears that not all of the previous sealer was removed. The steps show a stain still present lending to the problem. Strip it, neutralize and reapply. At this point you may also need to defur the wood as well. We find that by defurring in addition to the above steps brings the wood to a condition that shows the sealer better than if this step is omitted. Rod!~ ps...good one Rich. Haven't heard that term since we did our hood exhaust cleaning certification.
  19. Post Construction Cleanup Pricing Help

Thats a hefty size and for the particulars it would start in the area of 2000.00+ especially for sealing tile. .15/sqft or you can ala carte it line item fashion to break out for each service. Rod!~

  25. Problems today

Looks like Redwood to me, the clarity of the boards is a factor in my observation. Although the grain doesn't behave the same as most redwood I have seen, do you have a dry pic? If it's cedar Cedar...its surely not western red. Rod!~
