  1. Aluminum prep

Agreed. I use a 2 step method of acid then a caustic detergent. Brush and rinse. Low pressure works fine. Rod!~
  2. One thing to note about Messmers, it goes through a color shift as it ages. New applications can not go on till the old is removed completely, otherwise it will have a very uneven result. I didn't like the application of it either on Ipe'. It didn't take very well. Most of it sat on the surface and I had to mop it up most of the time. Rod!~
  3. Used it once on Ipe per a customer's request. Not much call for it here. Beth
  4. Before & After Gutters

Looks nice! I bet you had a happy client! Beth :sunshine:
  5. Water in the fuel filter is a good suggestion to check as well. Check your wiring and make sure all burner connections are intact. Rod!~
  6. Leaking Guns

We use Suttner guns, relaxed action or easy pull. I have a stainless steel one, high costs but dayum, the trigger gets tough after a while. I don't rebuild either, buy new and keep a couple on hand for spares. Rod!~
  7. It may not be firing correctly. Either the ignitor is not connected or is faulty. The fuel is not burning completely. Call your local rep for some tech assistance. Tom Vogel at ACR Products is at the pwna convention this weekend so he is not available but if it can wait till next week, give him a call. Rod!~
  8. WTW maintenance

Call me and I'll give you some suggestions. Some things....I just don't post. ;) Beth
  9. WTW maintenance

Yes it is what I would call al ight wash. No muscle, let the chems work, should go faster than when you are stripping. WTW doesn't flake (have never seen it) so no you are not removing flaking. You are removing dirt, mildew and algae if there is any. No, you don't need to strip it. Just clean it as above and give it a maintenance coat. We have been using Wood Tux since it was released, so this is going to be our 4th year with it. We began using the "wet" formula as soon as it was available. Great product. Beth
  10. EFC-38 at about 6 oz to the gallon....light wash. Citralic at about 3 oz to the gallon....rinse...rinse...rinse... Beth :groovy2:
  11. A thread for Ipe lovers

Ipe is a hardwood that grows in Brazil. It's incredibly durable, dense and not very porous. It has the beauty of a fine wood such as Mahogany. Beth
  12. Weather

Jim, You just jinxed us! That cloud didn't just deliver a little rain, we are getting snow showers. YUCK! Beth
  13. Weather

Keep it up there! We're going up to 55 today. It was supposed to be sunny, but it looks like we are going to get rain. :( Beth
  14. PWNA Convention info is here!!!!

TGS wishes PWNA all the best for a successful convention! Cant' wait to hear the news, and see the photos coming from this event. Sorry we were not able to make it this year. Beth & Rod
  15. We would rather not strip if we can avoid it. We would rather give the deck a light wash and then follow with a maintenace application of sealer. But...sometimes you have to strip. This tends to be on decks we do for the first time, that someone else boogered up the last time. Beth
  16. I understand what Jarrod is saying ( he'll correct me if I am mistaken, I'm sure)... If someone else, homeowner or contractor take your pick, puts a stain or sealer on a deck and you are brought in after the fact to wash it and care for it but are not asked to strip it, it can be a problem in that if the next coat that is applied to the deck fails, who will they blame? The person who just did the wash/prep work or the person who put on the initial coat? When you come up again this dilemma, ask yourself if you want that headache... now mind you, if you are just washing, and the owner is going to apply another coat themselves, then it might not be an issue. However....if another company did it, they said this company was just "some guy" and they are not sure he washed the deck well before he stained it, then I would say Jarrod is right - strip that deck - especially if you are applying the next coating. We know many companies that adopt this philosophy. It depends on the circumstances. Interview your clients about their property and get as much history as you can before you decide if stripping it too much, or not enough. Sometimes, stripping is the only option when liability is a larger potential issue. Just my .02... Beth p.s. we always neutralize/brighten after EFC.
  17. Which Cabot product is on the deck? Personally, I would want to know that. Different products, different formulations, different challenges. Beth
  18. Beth or other MD contractors

Hey Howard, maybe this year we'll send you a lead that is actually in your area. I keep trying, but never seem to get one in your neck of the woods. :( Beth
  19. My new brochure and flyer - take a look!

Psssssst! Please... no images in your signature. Thank you. Beth p.s. cool flyers!
  20. First deck strip

    Sweeeeeeeeet Rich! Looks great! Beth
  21. Here's a deck we recently did. The deck was washed with HD-80 and neutralized with Citralic. Love that clean wood! Sealed with Wood Tux. Beth
  22. I hate power washing

X-Jet M5 is the way to go. Totally rocks. Beth
  23. hd 80

It cleans it, but it is not what we would suggest for a house washing mix. However...it is great for getting off overspray... Beth
  24. Big oops! What should I do?

Among my crew, they have lost a number of tips and o'rings. I have shot out a couple in my earlier days and got into the habit of double checking that the collar is locked. It will rotate if it is. What amazes me is that the tip broke through the vinyl. Dayum! Rod!~
