My main problem has been when locking the reel the lock holes have become bent and distorted from the constant tugging and pulling from the unloader action (we have both types) . This is why I began completely bailing out the hose. The barrel on the reel has become distorted as well so I would have to add that whether or not the hose constricts or expands is not the concern but the the shifting of the hose roll on the reel that can become tightened from the movement in different directions. I have come back to the reel after a job to find my hose completely disarrayed and a pita to remedy. Just sharing my experience. btw, we use rapid reels and hose trac reels with stainless swivels and brass on the rapid reel. One question out there for the tinkerers...ever replaced a spring on a rapid reel for the pivot lock? (the one that returns the lock pin into the slot) The reason I ask is that it is inside the bar behind the swivel inlet and it looks a bit like a task to tackle. Anyone? Rod!~

Kevin, Would you install an acrylic with confidence in a Northern state such as say....Maine...on a ground level deck with less than 2 feet of clearance in full sun? Where would you install it? Knowing that it will eventually fail, as ALL products do, where would you install it? Beth -

You guys do realize I hope that you don't have to tolerate any of the type of treatment you are getting.... with the number of vendors out there all asking for your business, they should be tripping over themselves to give you the very best service at a fair price. I'm glad to see Sunbrite made right on the mishap. See, that's the way it should be. Make it right. You guys are out in the field working day in and day out and you need to know when you order, you get what you need. You don't need one more headache. You need the piece of mind that the vendor you choose, will help you stay on schedule. Of course planning is important too. Don't set yourself up to ask for chemicals to be overnighted when the laws prohibit it. Order in advance with enough of a time buffer that you don't get bitten waiting for something. (make sure you have 2 weeks worth of what you need on hand when you order) Hope this helps. We found it helps us. Beth -
Hydrotek man (tom w/acr products) may be able to help you with that one. Rod!~

Best advice I can offer is to always know what the return policy is with any vendor you choose to work with. Even if you don't like the policy, at least you will know where you stand. Good luck resolving your issue. Beth -

Ken, If you let them do this to you, they will also do it to others. Stop protecting the crook and get him to make it right. If he doesn't, take action. You have the power to put a stop to it. For the sake of other consumers as well as yourself, do something about it. Beth -

Masking tools for sealing wood
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
I'm glad this thread has surfaced again. This is the time of year to be thinking about these things, especially if you are new to this line of work. Beth -
Not always is this the case. If you think this could be a problem on your set up, get a pressure gauge with quick connects to mount just before the gun and check the pressure output. Another possibility is if your reel has a non OEM part on it, this could cause a restriction in the water flow. Over all, the pressure on the pump is factory preset, the tips are assigned to match the output to give you what you should be getting when you pull the trigger. The attachment you refer to should be large enough to avoid flow restriction. Some people will use the reel lock to keep the reel from bailing out hose. Personally, I will unroll the entire hose in a serpentine fashion (long 'S' pattern) to avoid damage to the reel and barrel while the unit is running. I don't mind the walking or the workout to reel the entire hose on and off but I think of it as taking the time to use and care for the equipment properly in order to avoid damage and early replacement.I hope this is helpful. Rod!~ ps. turn off your caps lock please.

Surface cleaners work well with higher pressures. I had a 2700psi 3.5gpm machine that could not make the surface cleaner put out the highest rpm's. Granted it was an 8hp motor but still the pressure and gpm were sufficient. Comparably, using a 13hp, 3200psi, 4gpm machine, it works great. I am using a whisper-wash classic if this gives any further insight. Personally, I like higher pressure machines because in some cases you need it and if you don't have it you will want it. The option of changing orifice sizes to accommodate the pressure drops as needed also offer a flexibility one cannot fully appreciate with a lower powered machine. Yeah, I'm spoiled on our 8gpm and 4.5gpm machines but I don't like to sacrifice the other factors that help to produce the results I've needed on various occasions including house/condo washing. Another thought, lower psi/hp machines usually come with smaller I.D. hoses. This has been a problem in the past when it came to chem injection over long lengths of hose especially over 100'. For your consideration... Rod!~

Beth n Rod replied to Mike Stahmer's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Mike, The red pigment should get you there. You can accomplish quite a bit without using any black at all. I know this, because we have used all the Wood Tux colors and are familiar with them. Hope this helps. Beth -

Composite /Trek board
Beth n Rod replied to Rodney's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
TREX comes in different colors. Sometimes we see it in a mauve color, sometimes a grey color. The mildew, will return. The black that leaches out of the TREX will also return. (it's not always mildew folks) TREX is made of both plastic and wood. Since it has wood ground up in it, the tannin will bleed and leach out. You'll need to treat the deck for tannin bleeding. Hope this helps. Beth p.s. we seal the wood if it is a combo deck, but we do not seal the TREX. -

Readyseal Gold
Beth n Rod replied to JFife's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
1st- I am not bashing, just answering this mans question based upon my experience. We used ready seal gold and a few other colors. The color didn't hold up well for us. We applied at a rate of about 75sqft/gal to get a decent saturation and still the color was lost within a year. Rod!~ -

Beth n Rod replied to James's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Jim, I am not disagreeing that chems can damage wood. Reread my post. I agree. However, the most common example of raised grain, is from excess use of force or pressure. From what I am reading, it sounds more like you are referring to when a deck needs defelting, which is not the same thing. You can have a fuzzy deck and not feel a huge difference in the grain. Beth p.s. no...I'm not wrong, too much pressure sure does tear up wood.... -

Ummmmm.... raise the grain? I don't think so. That would be your improper use of a power washer, not your chem. Chems can damage wood, but it takes pressure to cause that kind of damage. Beth -
