  1. Ask a stupid question and you get a stupid answer.

Sometimes I think people dont know how to approach us. I have gotten some of the same as Washaway mentioned and it does seem a bit obvious that if they had even read the sign the answer is there. I have had people come up to where my crew and I are working and ask if we do what we are currently doing. Go figure. It is a bit of a challenge to control the response and keep it pleasant but even my crew ask me why they would ask such a stupid question. I just tell them that there are no stupid questions just stupid people...Just Kidding! I tell them to be understanding that they may not exactly know how to approach us and sometimes the obvious doesnt sink in. They probably feel pretty embarrased when they go on their way and realize they just asked a really obvious question. I am sure that most would handle it with courtesy and be polite but admit it, we all shake our heads afterwards. Rod!~
  2. What do yall think

No, but a degreaser prevent it looking oily afterwards.Rod!~
  3. Super gloeocapsa magma

[dbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbd](sound of finger twidling over mouth contemplating the pronunciation of this word) :lgbonk: Maybe I am not awake enough yet...but Its amazing the things one can learn by searching on something like this.:) Of the results I found, chems were mentioned but agitation was not. Good point. Rod!~

Richard, The ground is level enough you could use ladders with stabilizer standoffs or you could add a second ladder with a platform (supported by a ladder stand on each ladder) between the 2 to work on a larger area at a time. There is also a system using what is called pump jacks that basically consists of two jack stands that are anchored to the roof (each spaced equally top to bottom according to the length of the platform you will be working on) and the platform itself which can be raised or lowered by means of a foot pump that can either raise or lower the platform as needed. It works best with 2 people but can bee used by one if necessary. Sorry if this sounds complicated but I will be happy to elaborate if you need further clarification. And the answer to your question of would we be doing all of this if given the opportunity is ... yes! (with the exception of the roof, I hate working on roofs personally and would refer it to the pertinence of another's bailiwick) Rod!~

  7. hot vs. cold

The price varies according to mfr but they come with a gas engine to run either a generator for a 12v burner or a diesel fueled burner. 2 tanks to fill. in this case. At last I priced them a few years back before going with a complete hot water skid was around $1200 + shipping and taxes. Shop around or check in the TGS bargain basement to see if anyone has one for sale. Ebay might be another good place to look. Rod!~
  8. aluminum siding

2 step method using an acid and a caustic based cleaner/detergent will help. You may need to do some brushing but it will look pretty good depending upon the the extent of the oxidation. Apply the acid 1st to one side then before it can dry (watch the windows and keep them wet) apply the detergent over the acid. The action of neutralization creates an agitation that helps to release the majority of the oxidized paint. After this rinse. If the spores still remain, apply more detergent with chlorine bleach (do not allow acid in the mix) wait for the spores to change color from black to brown then rinse. Call if you need any further help Rod!~
  9. On the grill stain it may help to agitate with a brush after applying HD-80 and hit just that area with warm water (80*-90*) to help draw out more of the grease and oils when you wash. you will have to sand this area a little when you come back to seal but it will give you a pretty good result the homeowner will appreciate. Rod!~
  10. What do yall think

kerosene to get the most of the tar off and for the rest use a degreaser. Rod!~
  11. Adrian, For Behr that age, mix the HD-80 full strength. You might need to let it dwell a while, depends on the temps there now. The warmer the day, the better. Over 50 degrees is best...chems are slower in lower temps. Take a stir stick or wand tip and scratch at it as it dwells. You are looking of it to break so you see bear wood. (you probably knew that) Do not be surprised if you need a 30 minute dwell on this. Patience will get the Behr off the deck... Keep product moist with more product. Apply via pump up, shure flow or deckster type sprayer. Hope this helps. Beth p.s. we use Citralic to neutralize, but if you have oxylic on hand that works just fine...we do rinse when done.
  12. HD-80 will strip the Behr. Beth

Along with the detergent, you will need a mildewcide. Bleach is a common ingredient in most house wash mixes in the USA. The detergent should be compatible with chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite) in order to avoid any dangerous gas generation. Quick rule: Do not mix bleach with an acid, the reaction produces a toxic gas. If you are unsure about any ingredients compatiblity, ask your supplier. Rod!~
  14. hot vs. cold

A hot box is a water heater added to a cold unit to heat the water. Rod!~
  15. hot vs. cold

Cold water units can clean really well. The difference is that cold water does not work as well as hot. Higher water temperature increases the waters solvent capabilities. In addition, chemicals mix easier and more effectively in warm water when compared to cold. Hot water will also holds more chemicals in solution because of molecular expansion. Cold water units are less expensive and more portable. Hot or cold each have their purposes and abilities and should be considered in relation to the majority of work you will be doing. Being up north having hot water at your disposal increases the range of work you can do during colder months while a cold water unit would not be reasonable. Anyone else have any thoughts to add? Rod!~

  21. I need a gun

Ok...I was not going to weigh in here, but here I go. First of all I believe in our right to bear arms. However, I do believe that it is a right that has a huge potential cost associated with it. We do have a gun in our home. Now... A true story.... My step brother when he was a teenager, had his best friend over at the house. Now these young men both grew up with family, hunting, knew all about how to use guns, clean guns, care for guns and be safe with them. They went outside and were shooting at a large wasp/hornet nest up in a tree. They went back into the house, and were cleaning the guns. My step brothers gun went off accidentally and blew his best friends brains out. It was a terrible accident. Accidents happen even to those who are careful, to those who exercise caution. Just be careful. That's all I have to say. Beth

Do you have rental opportunities? Scaffolding rents around here for around $50/day and around $150/wk. The rental company sets it up and takes it down. Do you have this where you are? Also, most painters in this area use ladders with stabilizers to paint up high. just tossing out a few ideas... Rod!~
  23. I need a gun

All that said, I see it is subjective. Being objective in mind is not something everyone is capable of and is why so many have the flaws in which you speak. The influence of safety and the persuasiveness of protection should not be validated by possession of a gun. Don't get me started with da budda stuff too! :) The laws of probability imply that there is always someone or something in any situation that cannot be foreseen that can beat any person possessing a gun. There are no absolutes! Owning a gun is a choice, using one is a choice, living without one is a choice. As long as they are around, someone will find a reason to justify using one and that is the risk we all take by allowing them to even exist. While I cannot make all the right choices and avoid all the risks of becoming a victim, I am aware that I have the choice of how to handle the situation should it arise. There are far worse things in life than death. To each his own. Rod!~ Yes it is Ryan. Very true indeed.

  25. I need a gun

I have a bit of experience on Karma where guns are concerned I would like to share for the benefit of others to consider on their own. I understand the karmic fact that if you bring a gun into your life, you bring anything associated with it into your life as well. I do not posses guns because of this. When I was a kid I owned a BB gun and used it for what I will leave at 'target practice'. While I was the only one among my friends who had done such a thing, I unknowingly brought what is called karmic retribution upon my friends all the same. I learned the karmic lessons of shooting at a creature that was unarmed during an unprovoked BB Air Rifle attack upon myself and some friends who were just hiking on a mountain and were shot at several times while we ourselves were unarmed. Yes we got hit regardless of the distance advantage, I consider this tangible evidence. Consider if you would: Ever had road rage and yelled at someone you thought for whatever reason was a bad driver? Ever been yelled or honked at furiously by someone when you were driving and couldn't understand why? What was your response??? "Whats that *******'* problem?" Karma has a strange way of invoking itself upon those who would submit themselves to it. It's real! Rod!~
