I agree. And having spent a couple years on the BOD, I can see a very real reason why the BOD members need to be consistent in their message in public. I don't care if we are discussing how to clean something that PWNA offers certification for, or if we are talking about bird eye views of the industry, when making public statements (these are public) it is better to have the BOD's message be consistent, since it is very hard to tell personal opinion from PWNA opinion, and really any differences should be in the board room - just my opinion. Beth p.s. inconsistency causes headaches for others....

Does the PWNA have a business Plan?

For everyones consideration. organization 1. an organizing or being organized 2. the manner of being organized; organic structure 3. [rare] same as organism 4. any unified, consolidated group of elements; systematized whole; esp., a) a body of persons organized for some specific purpose, as a club, union, or society b) the administrative personnel or executive structure of a business c) all the functionaries, committees, etc. of a political party By definition we can all derive an understanding without the arbitrary issues and perhaps level the playing field for all to see, it is just an opportunity. Kennedy once said it in an inaugural speech "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!" I think the whole mentality of an org has been skewed to the angle of individual benefit which is in contrast to what it is supposed to be. Many sit back and ask whats in it for me instead of saying what can I do to help! Continuing with this type of thinking, it is expectable that an org would not survive on its own. BTW...The requirement of licensure and insurance is a benefit to the org and bolsters the attitude of higher standards for membership in my opinion. I believe wholeheartedly that if we want any significant benefits to come from an org, it would be through the efforts of its membership who hold fundraising campaigns and drives to create the money necessary to acheive this. The power of the membership acting together to accomplish this in many regions of the states is very capable, especially during the slower winter months. Most orgs are comprised of individuals who have a cause and they spend a great deal of time and effort doing just what I have mentioned, holding fundraisers, talking to influential people in their areas, handing out informative literature to gain support and awareness and donating themselves to the cause. What is our cause? What can we do to make things happen for the org? Rod~

Thanks for the other pics, it helps give a better perspective of the sqft involved. The initial ones looked like single family homes and I missed the part about condos. Based upon your pricing given, you may be in the ballpark. Rod~ -

No offense intended here in any way, but I am giving you feedback based upon your post and the pics you have submitted. Considering that they could have the siding replaced for less, I think that it is overbid. Looking at the pics, unless I am missing something, 26,000sqft is significantly more than what I can see in these pics. The estimate in size I am seeing just by eye is around 3500-4500sqft taking into respect all four sides. Height X Width = Sqft. Avg height per floor is 8-10ft. Lets just keep it simple and say 10ft/floor. 3 stories X 10ft/story=30ft 50ft long on one side X 30ft in height = 1500sqft 1500sqft X 2 (sides) = *3000sqft 25ft wide X 30ft Height = 750sqft 750sqft X 2 (sides) = *1500sqft 3000sqft + 1500sqft = 4500 Total sqft/unit 4500sqft X 3 (units) = 13,500sqft total of 3 units. Now this is of course a visual estimate but I dont think I am far off give it +-500sqft for any corners and chimney stacks. Your figures are not going to be relevant to our demographics so I will leave the price/sqft to you and your local market to consider. Continue with prices for materials to replace any clapboards, ladder changes, scaffolding/manlift(s) rentals, Labor (3-5 man crew), Stain product = 85-100 gallons avg. @ $20/gal = $1700-$2000, Plastics, tarps and tape, etc... I'll leave the rest for you to decide whats necessary. Rod~ ps, welcome to TGS ! -

Defy?
Beth n Rod replied to Paver saver's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We have used Defy products at the request of the homeowner to maintain the warranty in effect for their log home. Personally, we were not very impressed with the product in both duration and maintenance applicability. It needs to be completely removed once the product has failed and then re-applied. It does well if the integrity of the original product is still intact. Stripping proved to be a trick in itself. We had to do a great deal of sanding afterwards to remove the blue stain from the logs (we usually only need to de-fur the logs after a strip.) on the side that needed to be stripped. We applied this product in temperatures of 70-80* and it did not want to penetrate very well which resulted in a bit of running and drips which needed to be spread about on uncoated areas. Based upon our experience with Defy on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, we'd give it a 3. For other stain brand options and feedback, conduct a search. There is plenty on this board to be found. Fall arrest gear is your friend. Better to have it and use it. If I recall right, a while back ( 2 years maybe) there was a guy who was in a lift, and fell out. He lived but was seriously hurt. We're talking months of rehab. Even in a lift, you need to be harnessed in and safe. OK..off my soapbox. Beth
