  1. All you can do at this point is help to keep them from progressing. Yearly maintenance is the best for this type of wood. Rod~

I would rather they know about STD's. I would rather they understand what their bodies are going thru as they mature. Teaching them to abstain, is something I think a parent should do. Teaching the what and the how of the human reproductive system is important. It fits in with biology 101. This is how a female body works, this is how a male body works. These are your STD's and this is what they can do to you - some can kill you. It's not like they break out the kama sutra or anything....at least not in Maryland. Here is it pretty much an extension of Health 101, and Biology 101. They also learn nutrition, and the basics of caring for their bodies - blood pressure, cholesterol, etc., good excersise.... Beth p.s. the columbine kids (shooters) needed professional mental help, and the parents were just blind to the kids goings ons.

Jon, you click the quote button to get the first bracket, then paste your text in, then click the quote button again to close the bracket. Hope this helps... APPROPRIATELY EDUCATED - even within the same church, people's views on religion and what is taught will vary. If those who worship in the same church are not always on the same page, how are you going to get those who have different beliefs to see the point of view taught in school? What if what is being taugh is NOT the same as your belief system? I'll be you are against it then. It's a nice idea, provided that what is taught is your belief system. Problem is, we all have our own set of beliefs. ELECTIVE - I agree. I don't think this is the answer to reaching the problem kids, but I think the parents are the key. *** EDUCATION - better educated than uneducated, this is no exception. Consider the consequences of not educating our children on this topic. Beth

So am I. Our founding fathers were brilliant in their vision where this separation is concerned. For one thing, religion is a very personal thing, and not something I would want any form of government regulating or teaching. It is far more significant to me, to be able to worship in the way that suits me best personally. I also feel this has helped to keep us out of nasty religious wars. Beth p.s. there are plenty of wonderful private schools with religious affiliations.

  10. Interesting burn on plants.

We once had a client that had us strip a deck. The strip job was great. We had NOT returned to seal it yet. Then the wife calls and says we killed all the plants. Puzzled, I went to investigate it. The husband had been at home and was ill, and not working. I got there and he started to lecture me. I listened, and calmly walked around to a table on the grass, and picked up the empty can of Thompsons, and the pump up, and asked him if they were his. He got upset further and said we killed all the plants. I walked over to the plants and picked off a couple of leaves, and asked him if they felt oily to him... he said yes, they did. I flipped over the Thompsons can, and read from the lable, where it said to protect plants, and that overspray from them would kill them. Then he turns to the fence ( which we were not hired to do, and didn't touch) and said we had done "that" to the fence. Seems he had taken a power washer to it. Looked like a giant garden slug had crawed all over it.... He demanded we replace the plants, I said I'm sorry, but we aren't replacing the plants that you killed. I took my oily sample leaves and left. Some people will try to blame you , for things they did themselves. In this case the hubby was very ill, and the wife was too embarrased to admit he did it, so she expected us to take the blame so he could save face. People do strange things. Beth

I'll just ask this... Someone dangles a BABY off of a balcony, I believe it was several stories up. Is it really such a stretch to imagine child molestation? Twisted is just twisted, no matter how you slice it. There are a couple tacos missing on the combo platter folks... Beth

This doesn't surprise me. Way to go Pete! Beth

I know there is a difference between ipe and cedar. Ipe is far, far harder and more dense than cedar, cedar being a softwood, Ipe being a hardwood. But a product with a poor formula that seems to fail regardless of the wood it is applied to, is just a poor product. Also the oils are just not long enough in my opinion to put the Menwood on Ipe. It won't penetrate well at all. Menwood is fairly thick.... Beth
  14. Staples and plastic sure do have a place. We have used them before also. Beth

Luckily, we have not used much of it. We did one home with it, which was surrounded by trees, and held up as well as any other home surrounded with trees would. We did a handfull of decks with it, one of them I saw today and it still looks good. Some did mildew. We are switching the owners of these decks to other products however. Personally, I don't care for the product. A lack of biocides/mildewcides/anifungals will ruin a potentially good product every time. It's not easy to tell if a finish can really go the distance if it becomes mildew infested and fails early on. Beth
  20. Very cool masking job! Beth
  21. Interesting burn on plants.

Go get a box of miracle grow, and a hose feeder. Go out and heavily feed the effected areas, and tell the the owner to give it a little time before mowing. Have the owner keep the area watered and fed. (leave them the miracle grow and feeder perhpas...) Sometimes, this is enough, sometimes it is not. We recently put sod down in our yard, and this helped us when it started to get sunburned in spots. It's worth a try. Beth :sunshine: :groovy3:
  22. Interesting burn on plants.

Bleach burn at that percentage without rinsing down the area or at least prewetting would be my answer. Hot temps during the day could attribute to what happened to the vegetation in addition to the exposure to your chems. Rod~ ps, there could have been a reaction to your chems from anything left on the ground by the previous contractor but this is a long shot given no idea of the amount of precipitation in the interim.

He started getting weird after his hair caught on fire when he did that Pepsi commercial years back. After that, he started with all the surgery etc... I think the Pepsi accident sort of snapped his twig... Beth

Forest Products Labratory says no bleach.... Not good for the lignin. I know some of you use it with great results, but it's not for us. But then again we get great results the way we do wood as well. Hey Rick, give Tom V my best. Beth
  25. Looks great, but I am curious why you didn't use a percarbonate instead? Why do you prefer a bleach over a percarb? The percarb is gentler on the wood's lignin, and just as effective. What color of the Baker's are you putting on it? Beth
