  1. Check with the manufacturer before doing this. ESI has approved Mineral Spirits and Xylene, but I have not seen ESI publicly approve the SC123. Beth
  2. This is our third year using Wood Tux. We're very familiar with it. Call us, we have many decks and some wood homes under our belts with the stuff. Beth
  3. Wood Tux is a wet on wet, two coats. Also for masking try this thread. http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2723&highlight=masking
  4. I thought I would get a discussion going on composites...we see them here all the time. What are your thoughts on them as a professional, and what are you running into? Beth
  5. Thoughts on composites?

Ick! Yuck! Personal feeling, what a waste of money. (regarding composites) We use and like the DEK product, on certain species of wood, certain height off the ground, boards in a certain condition. We don't apply DEK to Ipe, and don't suggest it. On Ipe if you plan to seal it, you need a very, very, very, very long oil. Just my hard wood loving .02... Beth :groovy3:
  6. Mark, This is a situation where you might try the Boost with the HD-80. The boost allows for acrylic and laytex removal. You are looking at different chems other than just a sodium hydroxide base product to break the bond of what is installed. You could also try an MEK based product. Beth
  7. Thoughts on composites?

Ryan, I went to crawl under there and it was very gross...and there were bugs. I'll dig up my blueprints and tell you what they said. I know we went wild on the supports, and opted to have extras, I think we may have had them every 4 feet if I recall correctly ( just under the tub). I'll double check. As for the trex, run... you are far, far, far better off with a hardwood like Ipe than with that synthetic stuff. Of course, I'm a wood geek. 8. Best coffee?

Ok, now that we are all hungry from the fast food thread, where is the BEST coffee? Beth
  9. What happened?

I looks like a radiator leak and the rust in the fluid turned the cement orange. Try a test spot using acid to clean (20:1) and see if it either lightens the spot or removes it where you have applied the acid. This will give you a better idea of what will be the end result. Just do a small spot though (1"x1") in the case the cement paste is not very thinck and also to avoid etching a large area. Rod~
  10. ever see this bad?

We have actually had decks that you could play golf on (if you are into the game) with moss and mildew so bad it took a second application of efc after the wash to make sure the stuff was gone...what a mess!!!!!! Rod~
  11. Fuzzies on Cedar Poll

Great topic Ken. This is a subject newbies need to think about, and those who are seasoned can have intelligent discussions over. Thanks for posting! Beth

  13. Latex over new oil finish

:lgbugeyes I thought the rule was latex can go over oil, but oil can't go over latex. Beth

  15. make own wood cleaner

Please contact the folks located here: http://www.thegrimescene.com/forums/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item800 They have great products, there is no longer guess work... Beth
  16. cedar deck finish

Jamie, The SRD is great on Cedar, so is the Aussie Oil. The tannin stains will be reduced in the neutralizing/brightening stage. The UV damage will not, and the deck will be darker rather than lighter if these are older more neglected boards. Have fun, post pics! Beth :groovy2:
  17. Anatomy of a Lurker

Hi Claude! Welcome to the BBS. Glad you are finding it to be helpful to you. We're all looking forward to hearing from you more as you become more comfortable. Have a great day! Beth :groovy3:

  19. Memorial Day

Hey Mike, have you made the trip up to the Memorials in DC on the Mall over Memorial Day Weekend? It's really something if you have not done it yet. Everyone is camped out on the mall, and rolling thunder is there. There is a long line at the Vietnam Vets memorial wall and volunteers hand out sheets of paper so you can do rubbings of the names of loved ones who have fallen in the line of duty. It's a really neat experience to walk the mall on this day, and see the Washington Monument, Capital and reflecting pool. Beth
  20. Favorite thing to cook on the grill?

I thought since it is Memorial Day weekend, and for many it's the kick off of grilling season, I would post a poll on what your favorite grill item is? I'm sure Ill forget something. If I do, post it in the thread. :groovy: Beth
  21. Favorite thing to cook on the grill?

Try this sometime.... Pizza from scratch, grilled. Beth
  22. x-jet help

There is a limit to how much water can go through an orifice and as you mentioned in combination with the size of the hose supplying the water to that orifice. Fluidic pressure and volume are limited by the restrictions of their transfer mediums. Rod~
  23. Housewash Pricing..No matter where you live

Amen Ken! :soapbox: You are right on the money! Beth

  25. help with porch area?

What was the main ingredient in the truck wash? It sounds like chemical residue, and that it just needed more rinsing. You can never rinse too much. Beth
