  1. Is there a way to save a favorite thread

Interesting thought...I'll look for a way to do it. Great idea! Beth
  2. Love this deck!

The spindles are wrought iron. We have seen no ill effects on any wrought iron rails we have worked on. (we neutralize and rinse very carefully) These rails are popping up around here in places where consumers have opted away from vinyl, on high end ipeand cedar decks. Don't see them on the PT decks much. I love the wrought iron. Very elegant. The table on this deck weighs 300 lbs too. It's stone. It was moved side to side. The staircase was build 5 feet wide to accomodate moving the furniture back up onto the deck. (currently underneath) The other furniture is teak and is beautiful. I love seeing creative decks with nice wood furniture on them. They look so sharp! The owner is going with the Cabot's Australian Timber Oil on this. He's torn between Amberwood and Mahogany Flame right now, and we may end up installing the Mahogany flame on the ipe and the amberwood on the cedar. Too soon to tell. Rod said the owner came busting out onto the deck as he was working, basically dancing, very excited. Beth
  3. The amazing wood kid

Charlie if you have any photos of his work, post them, with prices of the items. Some of the wood lovers here might be interested in them. ;)

  7. surface cleaner

yes...and hose...and some more QC's and QC plugs to match it all up. If I am not mistaken, your craftsman came with about 50' of hose. 150'-200' is standard for most operations. Rod~

  10. The amazing wood kid

Note: The young man in this article is the son of Charlie Roy, a member here on TGS. Charlie, thanks for sharing this with us. Hope you don't mind that I wanted to post it here for posterity. Great article! Beth
  11. What has REED SMITH been up to?

I finally got the chance to snap a picture of this building today. Seems Reed has his very own high rise in northern Virginia! Ok Reed, just how good is that woodcare life you lead? Enjoy! Beth
  12. What has REED SMITH been up to?

Scott you are soooooo bad.... Reed, it's a shame your name is not trademarked. I thought it was cool, and I snapped that pic as we drove by. I have been meaning to get it for a while. Beth
  13. extension ladder

1-24' Fiberglass ladder w/adjustable leg for uneven terrain, 1-24' Aluminum ladder, 1-36' Aluminum ladder. We use a quick click stabilizer for stability. Rod~
  14. Down stream injector

Heat will break down the spring and shorten its life. Replace the spring and the injector will work like new. Rod~
  15. Tony, I make a degreaser solution and stick my pigtail into the bucket and turn on the pump and spray the entire line back into the bucket until it comes out the same color as the solution, then I switch to clean water and spray until it runs clear. This sets the unit up for the next time. This is the decker 5'er though. The shurflo set up I only use for spraying chems and I keep the system wet when not in use. The valves are viton and the diaphram is santoprene. Rod~
  16. What would you do?

If the verticals are in good condition, then replacing all the horizontals would be more cost effective than washing them. Understandably though, most cedar on the market these days are newer growth and will be shot in about 5-7 years. Finding the better mature growth wood in cedar is tough. Many of our customers have moved away from cedar to ptp or ipe' and trex. The latter I dont recommend to any of our customers due to the problems inherant in it. You have a good opportunity to make this customer happy, question is, how much will his happiness cost him? Rod~
  17. What has REED SMITH been up to?

There are some houses out here for sale.... We would welcome you to the neighborhood Scott. But will a house be enough for a Flatwork King? Or do you need a high rise like Reeds? I wonder if Reed has seen this yet.... Beth :groovy3:
  18. Company Shirts

Here's a shot of a couple of our guys wearing their shirts. http://www.seedirtrun.com/jobs.html Rod~
  19. Yes, and yes. Rod has been using degreaser for cleanup for years. We use mineral spirits too from time to time, but for many things he prefers a strong degreaser. Beth
  20. Whoops! Sorry - forgot that detail. A butyl based degreaser is what we use for that. Does that help? Beth
  21. Going from dirty to clean

It's almost spring, and you all know what that means. It's means you are about to be really busy, really fast. It means if you are new, you have a year or less to get it right or go under. It means you need to know what you are doing, and learn as many tips as you can. It means you'll do alot of reading, and that you should be asking lots of questions. It means getting insurance, and equipment, and it means learning how to use that equipment ( and the chems) safely and effectively. There are some certification programs out there, and they help you gain knowledge. What you won't get, is field time with someone seasoned. You need to do that too. So where can you get hands on training? Call us. For a number of years now we have spent time each year with those who are new to the business or who just want to polish skills ( or skill exchange if you will). We want folks to know that we offer hands on training - an exchange of labor for learning for a few days or a week if you like, with Rod. Think it over, and give us a call if you like. Our season is starting up - NOW. Beth & Rod
  22. Going from dirty to clean

Tony, Maybe the regional forums are a good place for it. We have had folks drive in from pretty far away before to work with us. Beth
  23. Limonene

I have used espec's limonene in house washing, but the problem I have is the instructions only pertain to how to mix it up to make 55 gallons. Thats it. There are no instructions on ratios to use or what it is designed specifically to work on. Plus, no msds. All that fancy lingo in the ad and blamo disappointo. If you are looking for Limonene to work on mildew or algae, it doesnt. If you are looking for it to clean something, there is nothing stating what it is supposed to clean. Its advertised for house washing, but when I wash a house, it is to remove mildew/algae or oxidation. There are 2 different methods involved in the removal of each. Alone, limonene has not been effective on either. As we all know, dirt falls off the siding just from hot water alone. Mildew/algae need a strong oxidizer to kill it in order to remove it easily, otherwise, you have to beat it off with high pressure (2500psi+) Oxidation is removed well under a 2 step acid/alkaline process and rinsed with hot water under moderate pressure (600-900 psi) After trying Limonene at a number of concentrations, it now sits on a shelf waiting for a qualified use as a degreaser. Rod~
  24. Going from dirty to clean

Thats a good idea Tony, be our guest. Rod~
  25. Tony, Try cleaning with a degreaser instead of the spirits. We use both for different things, but we do like the degreaser. Beth
