  1. New PW Org Poll

If an org were to ever get started, one would hope that the same mistakes PWNA made, and is STILL making, could be avoided. I believe with good leadership and vision they could be. Sometimes what will work at a certain point in time can be outgrown and be due for a change or metamorphesis in order to get to the next level. To me, it appears time for this. I'll give you there are changes. I'll give you that hard work has been done. I feel very strongly about this industry. I feel very strongly about the good people in it, who have dreams and are trying to make them come true each and every day. I have a big propblem with oppressive people. I'm going to stop here. But before I do, I'm going to add that may hat is off to a few on the BOD, and John T. is a shining star. You care, and you listen. Keep doing it. Listen to the people. Beth p.s. This thread was started regarding a new org, not the PWNA. We're off topic...I think. Maybe we should all get back to our thoughts on a new org? John Orr brought up a great subject.
  2. New PW Org Poll

Hey Henry, Beth didnt make a negative comment, she just pointed out a better way. I was the one who shot staight and to the point, it was a question of ethics and whether or not any one see's it that way is purely up to them, they have to decide for themselves. My question was called an attack. I didnt say anything bad about the person, I just pointed out something that was a very questionable statement of advice to a member. As they are the industry leaders and setting standards, does this mean this type of advice is condonned as ethically acceptable? I guess so, I got kicked off and the other person was allowed to continue and not have to edit or respond to the inquiry of a member. All in all, this is not something we want to be associated with. Until the org establishes integrity throughout its structure and demonstrates respect to its membership, until then..., its a contradiction in terms of the ethics we hold to and set as an example. btw...Mom always taught me not to beat around the bush because the critter might get away on the other side. It has served me well. Rod~
  3. New PW Org Poll

Henry, We have been solid promoters for years and yes we have done things not just for the org but for the industry according to the standards of others who appreciate what we have done. When I was on the BOD I promoted heavily where volunteerism was concerned, since I believe that volunteers can make a difference. I have had a vision for years of what I thought would help. I still have that vision. I still believe in that vision. Many others also have vision, and their vision should be respected. Their vision is vital. No member or volunteer should be ignored, or made to feel unimportant or stupid. No person should be talked down to, or threatened by the org leaders. I have heard many people echo the sentiments of being scorned. Don is a forum leader as are others here, but on this BBS we do allow for people to share their opinions. This can be done in step with moderation, when it is correctly done. This is a pro-industry BBS. Beth

All of us are in business. Perhaps whay you are driving at is the differentiation between manufacturers/distributors/contractors. Beth
  5. linseed oil

I concur with jon and celeste, linseed oil by itself is not intended for outdoor use. It darkens wood and moisturizes it, but unprotected by a varnish or one of the urathane's will lead to mildew proliferation. Linseed oil which is derived from flaxseed is a natural food for mildew. There are mildewcides available as additives but these are meant for paint for the most part. Save your money and buy a premanufactured preservative/oil that is designed for outdoor use. .02 Rod~
  6. Water in the Gas tank

I have heard that K7's can be problematic, or have shorter life spans in general, my understanding is that it is due to the type of unloader it is. Beth :groovy3: :cup:

  10. Concerning PWNA

All, Many thanks for the kind words of appreciation. I'll share with you how The Grime Scene came to be. A few years back, I did some writing for a short lived magazine called BlastMaster. It folded, and folks started to call and email me about starting it back up. I was not inclined to start up a printed publication, but was more inclined to created a comprehensive site covering many aspects of cleaning in general. Some folks said it would not take off, that there were many other BBS's out there. About the same time we started selling products. No secret there. Well, since the store was going to be online, it made sense to go ahead and open a BBS. So, we did. While we as administrators have worked hard, it would be wrong to say we have been the sole and driving force. You see, we put the tool out there in skeleton form, but everyone here added the flesh to the bones. We credit the moderators and members of this bbs, for the success of it, it has been their ( and your) achievement. All we did, was build the venue, and give it guidance. So pat yourselves on the back for being good and thoughtful and giving. Thank you for the kudos, they mean alot to us. We have spent many hours working on this, and what means the most to me, is to hear your success stories and to see your problems solved. But we thank you guys, for making this a place you feel good about belonging and sharing. Thanks for everything you do here. Beth
  11. Do you have ABR products in your area? If so, try their product called "strip it all". I have used it to strip off some army green paint from a deck many years ago but didnt like the fact that it came in this thick gel. Apply with a brush or roller and leave on thick. Neutralize after you wash it off. If this doesnt work...got a match? j/k :) Rod~
  12. New PW Org Poll

I wanted to let you all know that I am following this thread. I am flattered that you feel this way, and I appreciate very much the support you have given me and the confidence in me that you have shown. I am curious as to why you look to me for this. Beth
  13. On stripping paint, depends on the paint. Some come off as easy as stain, others will not budge. On paint, always do a test spot prior to pricing it. On the wood manual...if you are taking the class and following along, yes. If not go to http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/fplgtr/fplgtr113/fplgtr113.htm and download what you need. ( main site is http://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/) Beth
  14. Columbus Convention Question

Tony, I hope you have a blast. Take some pics and post them here will you please? It's always fun to see the convention, and the people are the best part. I think they currently have 18 vendors - www.pwna.org . Beth
  15. Daily Motivation

My mom said it another way: It is better to be quiet and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt! She also told me the we are born with 2 eyes, 2 ears and 1 mouth. We should use them in proportion to what we are gifted. Watch and listen 2 times as much as you talk, and remeber none of them would be worth paying attention to if they werent connected to your heart. Rod~
  16. Tennis Ball ?

My solution: Take a tennis ball and embed a T shaped wire into it with a loop on the protruding end and attach a string/strap line etc. to it with enough extra length so that the ball can fall free when bumped out and not get away from you. It just dangles below the gun until you reseat it to hold the trigger open. This helps to reduce operator fatigue but offers quick control of the trigger when needed. The ball pops out easily. I think it is a safer way than the plastic trigger ones they have for sale now, but that is just my humble opinion and personal preference. Rod~

  18. Concerning PWNA

Well, if discussing and promoting ethical business practices makes us trouble makers, they yes we are. Beth :groovy:
  19. House Washing Techniques

It is ethically best to answer this yes. But how many of us actually did? If we informed the customer before hand of the potential, then we can go back and say "As we talked about, this happened and I took care of it by doing this..." But, if we didnt inform them and didnt even realize the problem was possible, then more than likely, my guess is that we covered our tracks (the problem) and didnt mention anything to the customer. Personally, I cant think of anything more than siding blowing off (not completely) and having to stop and re-attach it and the only reason for not mentioning it to the customer was that they were not home at the time of completion. Carlos, thank you for bringing this up. In the process of writing this response it gave me an idea... In KEC, they have a form called a deficiency report that is given to the customer after the initial inspection or after the job is completed to inform them of problems or regulations that their equipment might be in violation of. I would suggest that we in our own businesses come up with a report that mentions to the customer any problems we encountered in the process of doing our job so that they can take corrective measures. This of course is relating to pre-existing conditions that we are not made aware of before hand. Any problems that came about as a result of the process should be corrected by the contractor and then notify the homeowner. This is instilling trust in the contractor and shows that the contractor is responsible. Lets set a standard of integrity for ourselves. Rod~
  20. Flow unloader questions

Actually, when using a pressure actuated unloader, there will be a spike in the system no matter where the device is after the unloader itself. The line is constantly under pressure, so when you change over using a cut off valve, there is still pressure to be released once you open the valve and then again once you pull the trigger. The pressure level is constant through out the system with these types of unloaders. Rod~
  21. Concerning PWNA

Hi Howard, It was just us. There was a question from a member, and one of the BOD answered it with the following statement: Rod and I both questioned the response, Rod was a tad more direct about it than I was. We questioned the ethics of it coming from a BOD member to a member. We then got emails demanding we edit our posts, followed by an email saying to shut both of us down, although it was Rod's post they had the most problems with. Does this answer your question? Have a great day. Hope this weather changes soon. I think we are all ready for spring. :groovy2: Beth
  22. Deck Sprayer Tips

Michael, We do sell the Decker, and all the parts and accessories for it as well (yes to cones and guns). We use a cone tip and love it. It allows for better coating on the surface to be covered than a fan tip will. Beth
  23. Concerning PWNA

JSavoy, Thank you very much for your kind words. I tried very hard as a member and as a BOD member to support the PWNA, as did Rod as a member. Rod and I did this because we support the industry, and those who choose to take a bold step by attempting self employment. We are believers that if we all help one another, our chance for success is far greater. Beth

  25. Concerning PWNA

Yeah, well, joke all you like but after they decided to lock us out of the BBS:2eyes:, and we were PWNA Members, for something as simple as questioning how ethical a statement that was made was:eek:, we decided to cancel our membership for a while. They have some work to do. :banghead: Beth
