  3. whats the difference

Welcome to TGS Hydro Blaster! In reply to the main question, A distinct difference between supply reels and high pressure reels is as Alan has stated. Further, the swivels are rated for higher psi and have stronger seals in them. The spool part of the reel is also stronger to withstand the hose expansion that would crush a regular reel. The manufacturers I have talked with do recommend unrolling the hose from the reel to extend its life. Our crews are instructed to lay them out in a serpentine pattern if they dont need all 200' and use a wrag to clean them off as they roll them up. It only adds a couple of minutes to the pack up process but the appearance to others as the units go down the road is a lot cleaner. Rod~
  4. Footwear

I wear rubber boots that are easy to slip on and off when I am done at the site. In between, I wear sandals so that my feet and socks can air out and dry while enroute. I change with the pvc as well. Suit up with pvc and rubber boots then strip down to company t'shirt and shorts. For some, it may be a hassle to go through this 3-5 times a day, but I would rather do that than suffer swampfoot again. (where your feet get all pruney and stay that way for so long that it actually becomes painful to walk on them) Tennis shoes...been there done that, got the ever popular stained till they are no longer flexible enough to wear. You all have heard of getting your shoes bronzed...well...same thing but with stain instead! :) Rod~
  5. The Donkey

There is something else to be learned from this one...everything is not always what it seems and judgementalism can blind you to what other possibilities may exist. Moral: Dont be so quick to judge and slow to understand. Ignorance has 2 other friends...prejudice and fear. :yoda: Rod~
  6. House Washing Techniques

I use the M-5 for virtually everything in house washing. Brick, vinyl, aluminum...etc. Rod~
  7. Definition of a "Newbie"

There is a statistic for new business ventures that states most new businesses that will fail do so within 2 years. Factors contributing to failure include: Poor management (money, personnel, bookkeeping and accounting A/R-A/P), Lack of a business plan, Poor discipline, economy. Staying in business beyond that profitably for the next 3 years is a good sign of a stable business. So, taking from the above, it would seem that the first couple of years are the most critical for most business ventures. After that, remaining profitable from years 3-5 are very important to the longevity of the business. As far as I am concerned, making it through year 1 was tough...I considered us as a newbie during that time. In the beginning of year 2, I considered ourselves as intermediate. Overall, year one is the newbie year, year 2 is the year you either correct your mistakes from year 1 or you dont and the business suffers. my .02 Rod~

  14. General Info Site about starting a PW Business

It's not his Powerwashing Guide. He's just selling it. Joshua, do you get a click through commission for selling for Nothern Tool? Beth
  15. Gloves??

We use gloves all the time because of the fact that even when the product has been applied, it still is on everything and you may have to put your hands on it at some time or another while washing. Our rule is to wear them until everything is packed and you are getting into the vehicle. Even when we are sealing, we wear them. Reduces the need to use harsh cleaners to get the stain off of your hands and skin once it dries. Rod~

  18. House Washing Techniques

degraffeed, SPV basically answered the question you posed for me... I use a flex wand to get even lower though...it throws a bead of water up about 40' and does quite well for pumping 8gpm onto a siding for rinsing...at around 300-500psi Rod~
  19. Nasty Redwood House

Perhaps Shane will share his techniques on using bleach... Beth :groovy:
  20. Hi Jon, You're not hijacking anything. :groovy2: Chris retired from wood care. He's very happy and has a career in real estate in Georgia now. Pete is running Sunbrite, and bought Chris out. Back to the wood care education question, Rod and I have had folks come up here and work with us before as well, exchange hands on labor for learning. If anyone is interested, contact us.We're doing this again this season. If you want to see what you'll learn to do, go to www.seedirtrun.com and look at the wood pages or the photo gallery. Hands on rocks. Beth

Jim, I know a percarb is gentler on wood that sodium hypochlorite is. Rod and I do have expereince. I also wish that as a proponenet of bleach you would give the ratios you use and share your methods. We have seen bleach damage first hand, and if someone doesn't know how to use a chem, any chem, to get desired results then it is better to err on the side of caution. We get fabulous results, we are not inexperienced, and we know what will harm wood. You say you know how to use bleach without harming the wood, fine. Share it then...better to share what you know about how to use it than to tell someone to use it and not tell how, which could result in improper application resulting in damage. Beth
  24. Nasty Redwood House

Plleeeeeeaaase do not clean it with bleach. This is a soft wood, not a hard wood, and would be more detrimental to the soft fibers than if applied to hard wood. Beth
  25. Mine! My guys go through a 2 week training before they can go out on their own. Only problem is, I have company sensitive info incorporated into ours. Best boot camp is hands on and substantiating info. I have taken the PWNA boot camp, passed it...twice...open book test...easy. Delco has one with Pete Marentay as the instructor. Dont know anything more than that. We do miss Chris Detter...he had a lot of enthusiasm for the trade. Others are...contractors coach, book/tape format Wolman certification ABR certification Rod~
