Which Cleaners/strippers/neutralizers are you going to use in 2005?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We use Extreme Solutions products for wood restoration. HD-80, EFC-38 and citralic neutralizer/brightener. As most know, we have used these products extensively and get great results...truly a contractor grade product line. We are also working with Pressure Tek products F-18, F-10 and F-08 and field testing them for recommendation. The results obtained so far with Pressure Tek's products have been positive. Either line would make a great addition to anyones restoration arsenal. Rod~ -
Which Sealer(s) are you using this year?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Our Sealers of choice for this year will be--- Wood Tux! Wet (WHG, WC) Cabot Austrailian Timber Oil-Hardwoods Sikkens SRD, DEK, 123+ Cabot Solid Color Stain (2 tone decks) The reason for this not only because we love these products, but the greater majority of our clients have one or more of these products currently installed on the structures and will be needing maintenance coats this year. The results we have obtained using these products has been fruitfully favorable. You can just look at the structure and tell why they would be a desired finish. They all have great mildewcides and long life. We like using sprayers for application with pads and brushes for backup work. Looking forward to spring!:sunshine: Rod~ -

I got the M-5 version 02/10/05 21:38:09 Mike_IN: like I said, it doesnt take much to clean vinyl, but vinyl sure seems to get mildew and dirty quickly 02/10/05 21:38:30 scottk: wax my man wax 02/10/05 21:38:36 Mike_IN: telescoping wands are a bear, I have a long wand and a short wand, ladder if needed 02/10/05 21:38:53 Jeffrey_Robison: x jet bleach with soap two sides then rinse the first and then the second. Repeat for the other half 02/10/05 21:39:00 Mike_IN: wax on wax off, yes daniel son 02/10/05 21:39:17 Brian_Sawyer: Jeff are you inviting me to go on a job with you? 02/10/05 21:39:33 scottk: we add a liquid wetwax to out housewash that helps slow the mildew and mold growth 02/10/05 21:39:53 Jeffrey_Robison: It is just a little playground equipment, not really a true scope of the work, but yes. 02/10/05 21:40:03 jbpowerwashing: Jeff what is the mix ratio of bleach, soap and water 02/10/05 21:40:04 Mike_IN: hmm scott, I'll have to try that, I bet mildew is a big problem in the humid south 02/10/05 21:40:43 Brian_Sawyer: cool, what time is the job? I'm going to be driving from Knoxville 02/10/05 21:41:25 Jeffrey_Robison: I use 4 gallons of 12% a gallon of Powerhouse from Sunbrite a couple ounces of foamer. Apply at 10:1 thru the m-5. Vinyl houses are very easy. 02/10/05 21:41:49 Jeffrey_Robison: About 8:00 am!!! Probably a 4 hour drive. 02/10/05 21:42:00 scottk: we love mildew it translates into $$$$$$ 02/10/05 21:42:25 Brian_Sawyer: ouch 02/10/05 21:43:16 Jeffrey_Robison: Maybe another time but the invitation will still be open for a another time. Maybe I can line up a couple houses in March on a Saturday. 02/10/05 21:43:23 Mike_IN: is the x jet pretty universal? 02/10/05 21:43:56 scottk: you have to specify the gpm of your machine when you order mike 02/10/05 21:44:06 Mike_IN: i'll keep my sprayer for roofs and go for the x jet :) 02/10/05 21:44:12 Jeffrey_Robison: Universal? easy yes. There is the m-5 which is adjustable and the original you have to screw pieces into the end. 02/10/05 21:44:25 Mike_IN: so i could not use it on different units 02/10/05 21:44:46 Jeffrey_Robison: It should be able to be used on all pressure washers. 02/10/05 21:44:48 scottk: you could but you might not have the same draw rate 02/10/05 21:44:55 Jeffrey_Robison: exactly 02/10/05 21:45:05 Mike_IN: ok 02/10/05 21:45:08 scottk: you can order different orafices if you needed to 02/10/05 21:45:22 Jeffrey_Robison: BUY ONE!!!!! 02/10/05 21:45:51 Mike_IN: yes sir 02/10/05 21:46:26 scottk: NOW and let me give you a list of stuf fyou can buy for me.................lol 02/10/05 21:46:27 jbpowerwashing: sorry jeff but could you explain "apply 10:1 thru X-jet 02/10/05 21:46:39 Mike_IN: now you sound like my wife 02/10/05 21:46:54 Mike_IN: oh no, she's behind me 02/10/05 21:46:54 Jeffrey_Robison: For mold without it you have to get up close and move sort of slow. With x jetting you just apply to one side of the house then the other. Disconnect the hose(just pull it off) When you walk back to the first side the mold is gone, just a quick rinse 02/10/05 21:47:54 jbpowerwashing: k, thanks 02/10/05 21:48:04 Jeffrey_Robison: They have proportioners that you put in it. Different ratios for different fittings. Most people seem to use the staight 2:1 ratio that is standard. 02/10/05 21:48:16 Brian_Sawyer: I would like to take you up on that sometime Jeff. 02/10/05 21:48:21 jbpowerwashing: i see 02/10/05 21:48:42 Mike_IN: basically it's your water / chem mixture ratio barry 02/10/05 21:48:53 Mike_IN: 2 parts water to 1 part chem 02/10/05 21:48:57 Mike_IN: and so on 02/10/05 21:49:05 Jeffrey_Robison: anytime. 678-360-2518. I am helping because so many have offered the same to me. I just went at it blindly. 02/10/05 21:49:26 scottk: we use the 2:1 ...it beat the heck out of me trying to change those tiny little proportioners 02/10/05 21:49:46 Mike_IN: watch out for the cats on the playground *meow* 02/10/05 21:49:59 jbpowerwashing: you do any roofs yet mike 02/10/05 21:50:08 Jeffrey_Robison: With the stronger mix, I can knock out a house with only one 5 gallon jug. Just don't see the benefit 02/10/05 21:50:15 Mike_IN: I've done mine and the inlaws :) 02/10/05 21:50:53 scottk: we do most houses with five at the 2:1 ratio 02/10/05 21:51:01 Mike_IN: not alot of mildew on roofs here 02/10/05 21:51:08 Mike_IN: but I'll try this year for sure 02/10/05 21:51:25 Jeffrey_Robison: Only 10 gallons of water? 02/10/05 21:51:44 jbpowerwashing: sorry for all the questions 02/10/05 21:51:47 Jeffrey_Robison: Just asking 02/10/05 21:51:57 jbpowerwashing: you have a surface cleaner mike 02/10/05 21:52:08 Mike_IN: dont be sorry barry, thats wht this thing is for, to ask and learn, we all have done it, I'm still learning myself 02/10/05 21:52:32 Jeffrey_Robison: Give me a call tomorrow Brian. 02/10/05 21:52:57 Brian_Sawyer: are you goingto be out the roundtable jeff? 02/10/05 21:53:13 Jeffrey_Robison: 95% sure I will be. 02/10/05 21:53:16 Brian_Sawyer: cool 02/10/05 21:53:16 scottk: our standard housewsh mix is 1 gallon citracleen 2 gallons 12% chlorine and 2 gallons water(4oz wet wax,4oz of foamer) xjetted at 2:1 02/10/05 21:53:20 Mike_IN: I am buying one this year, I dont do much flat work commercially, the driveways I've down with a spinner, but I'll be getting a surface cleaner soon too, I have a list of thing I want to get as I continue to upgrade and grow 02/10/05 21:53:48 jbpowerwashing: you are my hero 02/10/05 21:54:05 jbpowerwashing: maybe I could come hang out sometime 02/10/05 21:54:05 Mike_IN: your not gonna sing are you? 02/10/05 21:54:22 Jeffrey_Robison: One five for a house? The total PWNA members who will have access to Vendor posts is int he 400 range. So the Associate members have lost 2/3 rds of the online audience they once had. But, the potential new PWNA members is the largest group to feel this change. They may have a plan to address this. We will see. I can see ways to address these issues, and to get the atmosphere they are looking for...and that's what it boils down to, image, atmosphere, created based upon content. Just my .02.... Beth

Posted by Henry: Henry, I never said that you said it...you seem a tad defensive. Relax. Just because I have heard it out of someones mouth before, doesn't mean it was yours...I'm expressing my own views on a subject, nothing more, nothing less. Have a super day! :dancing: Beth

Replacable vs durable
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Hi Jon, good to see you. Pumptek also makes the Decker Topper, which is easier to get to all the parts adn cost less than the one on the cart. Beth -
Scott, Anyone who wants to join the PWNA can do so by filling out and application and sending in dues. The folks at the office are very professional and do not handle applications with bias. I know you don't care for them, but if you ever did, they would welcome you. Hope this helps to at least ease any ill feeling about how they process members. Also , anyone who wants to join and has not gotten info before can request it. They will gladly send you info. Beth

Seth~ THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Talk about knowing your demographics and your target market.... The only thing I'll add, is that there have been quite a number of members who after a period of years ask for more advanced coursework and info as they grow to need it. Keep up the great posts! Beth :dancing: :groovy: ::beerchug: :bandplay:

In many of these cases, the client has never been met and the majority of the conversations have been accomplished by phone. Many times I arrive at an "unseen" site to do work and since it was at the clients discretion to not be there when work begun, there is no way to assess the situation, so therefore the disclaimers are your back up. No one starts out intending to create damage, but tempers flare when it is discovered and retribution is the first thing right after the incompetant contractor rant. Yes, informing the client is the best thing, but in this day and age where no one has the time anymore, things get done without ever meeting face to face. I have a number of these. If they bring up a situation, I will correct it. But if they decide to be ignorant of the circumstances and try to lay blame for damage that was not evident at the time or informed of the possibility of it before hand, then I have the disclaimer to set the playing field back to level. Then a course of correction can be discussed with them. Most of all, the disclaimers are there to stop the contractor abuse. Once the client realises that they have no case, then they are willing to work with you. Rod~

Mathew, Well put! Beth :groovy3:

Another great idea! Mike, I think you should start them off. It would be great if others did the same thing. A popular time seems to be 8pm or 9pm eastern. Most folks are out of the field them. Hope this helps. Beth

What chat topics do YOU want to see scheduled?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Mike, :dancing: GREAT IDEA!!!!! :dancing: When are you scheduling the one for your area? Just do it. Tip: give a week's notice... Beth p.s. you should put this idea in a thread of it's own and see if we can get others to chime in hold area chats. -
Celeste - In a nutshell here's my .25 on what it boils down to. PWNA's BBS has been perceived to be a benefit that was available to both members and non-members. While members had access to more forums, non-members still had many places to grow and learn and to ease into their decision of if they wanted to join. PWNA members still have the benefit. Non-members considering joining have a benefit, but the perception may well be that since it has changed, it has been taken away. Alvin Toffler once wrote a wonderful book call Future Shock. Cliff Notes Version: the majority of people naturally resist change. There you go. Just my thoughts, but based on human behavior. Beth

my .02 While compliance is a good thing for the contractor, non-compliance is Their problem. We dont concern ourselves with what the other contractor ...fill in the blank. It takes us away from doing what we do best. Serving the customer. We have a common dialog we use when clients ask us about other contractors; 'We have heard of them but you would need to check with them for that answer.' Otherwise, it becomes another form of bashing and there has been too much of that in this area alone not to mention accross the US. Professionals let others speak for themselves. Rod~

p.s. yeah it has gotten quiet...the bruhaha is over. it's probably better that way. time to focus on the new season.

This is what we use to address this issue. Rod~ In addition, disclaimers are for your protection. The rules of the epa are that the waste generated on their site is theirs until properly disposed of. They assume all liability including cleanup, transfer, disposal, and any further fees or fines from hiring someone else to dispose of it who does not do so according to epa regulation.

The status of licensed or unlicensed has no bearing on the quality of the work we do as professionals. That's the biggest problem I have with people who are pro-licenseing and who also try to say a license means better job quality. Bullfeathers! That's not saying a company should not be licensed, but it's up to the individual company to take the steps to do it, and it should be a private matter between the company and the state in question, not other local contractors or compeditors. Compliancy is a private business matter. There. I said it. Beth

They will outline the format when you go to the meeting. Fortunately, you will be able to see who your competition is. :) They wont be duking it out at the meeting, but it is pretty interesting to see the looks on some of the competitors faces when they recognize you. You will go through a Q&A along with perhaps some slides and literature. We have done some of these regarding janitorial contracts and they will spec out what is needing to be done, what the budget is, the hours of service, the previous contractors itinerary and the term of the contract. We have been given a format to follow but it regarded Janitorial work which they wanted costing information for everything. With yours, I can only speculate so I will not go any further. Rod~

What chat topics do YOU want to see scheduled?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's question in The Club House
Here are a few tips to hosting your own chat.... 1. more notice is better - if you can, schedule your chat a week out, or at least a few days 2. post about it on the BBS, add an item to the calendar, and put a remider blurb in the shout box (water cooler) to help people find the event 3. don't just sit in the chat room for one or two minutes. stay in the screen for at least 30 minutes. People can't always arrive at the exact start hour. Be patient. Hope this helps. We would love to see impromptu chats start up. We can also add as many rooms as we need to, and would love to hear it is time to do that. Enjoy the feature and have fun! Beth & Rod -
