X-Jet question II
Beth n Rod replied to PressurePros's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
They have different sizes to work with your machines psi. #9 2000-3000psi #13 3000-4000psi #16 4000-5000psi They will work with (in my experience) an 8gpm machine. They are designed on the priciples of single gun systems. They work on dual gun units, but, if only one of the guns are being used, it will get a larger flow and change the ratio of chem to water injection. Something to be aware of... Rod~ -
If it is mildew, then it has a small amount of bleach. If it is oxidation, then it is an acid followed by an akaline. Rod~

Anyone who is interested in wood care classes, this is a good thing to consider. Check it out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wood Boot Camp in Mt. Laurel, NJ Feb. 26th&27th http://www.pwnabbs.org/showthread.php?t=3491 There have been a lot of folks asking about a Boot Camp for many reasons. Some want to spend more time on other things at the Convention, some can't attend the convention, and others are looking to attend before the season gets into full swing. This is an opportunity to attend the Wood(only) Boot Camp in NJ. This is being added to other dates that will be announced for the remainder of the year. If there are any others interested or have questions please contact the PWNA at 1-800-393-7962 or myself at 1-866-440-3325 or by e-mail. __________________ Everett Abrams President ABRAMS PLUS INC. / DECK RESTORATION PLUS 1-866-440-3325 www.deckrestorationplus.com eabrams@deckrestorationplus.co m

The one thing that I find detracts the most from a sealed deck is the furring left behind from either the wash or chemicals. If they arent removed prior to staining, it can leave a very uneven look. Rod~

Beth n Rod replied to Henry B.'s topic in Contractor Help Wanted - Job Leads
If this is for job leads and not subcontracting, then the job leads forum is the best place for this...I've moved it for you. Just trying to keep the BBS organized. ;) Beth :groovy3: -
I used Premier and it didnt budge the mildew. I had to add bleach to get the results which is what I was trying to avoid. Thanks Bob for the tech support. Rod~

I believe the House Wash PressureTek makes is a degreaser. Bob, can you confirm this? Beth

Has anyone seen this?
Beth n Rod replied to seymore's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Makes me ask how they handle the lumber when infusing it with chemicals. I would think it is done mechanically. Clamp marks? Just guessing.... they are too even to be natural. Beth -
This is all wonderful! Thanks to all who share such things! Beth

The builder has no way of knowing which way the channels in the board are flowing. I have seen builders flip boards to look at the cut, but it doesn't tell you which direction the sap was running... Ever have a board that pretty much refused sealer while another next to it sucked in plenty? Both the same age and exposure? That's an example of that. Beth -

Doc has wonderful advice to give. We have also benefited from his advice in the past when getting into KEC. The PWNA has doorknob hangers aimed at wood care. Call headquarters about them. 1-800-393-PWNA. They are also working on a consumer brochure. Beth -
Yes. Only the first issue of the year is like that. Next issue you will see articles. :)

Its a good practice to measure everything and take into account the terrain, the amount of vegetation surrounding the structure and the nearby dwellings. This equates into the pita factor when you must consider that dealing with these additional items that they take time away from actually doing the work. The protection and care you must exercise around them is worth getting paid for. This is not to say that if you didnt get paid for this it is assumable to get reckless by any means. Time, supplies, costs of tools and equipment (depletable [pads, brushes, rollers, plastic, tape etc] reusable tools that wear out), transportation costs, payroll costs, insurance, taxes, overhead. These are unique to each business and will differ respectively. I like Reed's spread sheet. It has his calculations to arrive at his costs which he can monitor as prices change for his supplies. Very well thought out. Rod~

You are most certainly welcome Reed. Pw'ers should stick together and help each other. Rod~

I'll send you a copy of ours. look for a pm. Rod

Do you have a pre-existing conditions clause in place? We had to incorporate one due to the things we had no control over that homeowners would try and hold us accountable for. Its a shame that we have to implement these measures but some people leave us no choice. According to the USDA Forestry labs, knots loosen as the wood around the knot dries due to unequal shrinkage. This is common in encased knots and less in interwoven knots although still possible in this type. Rod~

6-8%WMC is awfully low for new construction wood. You have no control over how long it was in a stock pile before it ever became a structure. Rod~

thanks Henry :)

Paul pops in to lurk from time to time. He spent alot of time helping to build the bbs up and is doing other things with his time now. I miss his posts. I spoke to Rob this fall, but have not spoken to him since. He's probably doing a home show right about now. Beth
