  4. Having a Roundtable

We have thought about it, and ran out of time for it last year. Might do it this year if enough people are interested, it could be really fun! Could have a couple of days out in the field, followed by a party at the end of it even. Anyone interested? Beth
  5. Having a Roundtable

Paul, Drive up from VA this spring and work with us for a couple of days. Get some hands on and some tips, and it will help you launch your biz. Let us know if you are interested. Beth
  6. Having a Roundtable

Henry, We plan on holding them for many years to come. It's not a burden for us at all, so please do not assume it is. We enjoy it. Very often it is vendors who host these, and sometimes multiple vendors attend them, as we have seen in the past as well. This makes sense. Rather than splintering and dividing the local efforts and potentially detracting from the attendance at both, why not help us with ours? I know you called a couple people once, but if several of us locally reached out to say 50 people each, it would be great. The one we are working on now has several volunteers all rounding people up for the event to help make the turn out even larger. As for Hooters.... No offense to those who hold them there but it seems like it's perhaps not the most professional place to hold one and some could be turned off by it. Again, no offense to those who do. Thanks... Beth :groovy3:
  7. PA Roundtable interest

Ken, I think it sounds like a great idea. Beth
  8. Passing the torch

Thank you all. :) I appreciate it. It seems this thing is spreading and has to get worse (to a certain degree) before they can do what they need to do. It's sounding like surgery will be in the peak of the season.... Beth
  9. Having a Roundtable

Round Table meetings are a way to get your feet wet so-to-speak and without obligation. I find its quite a relaxed atmosphere and that we are all not so different. As people begin to talk and share during the event, all will learn about the industry and how it is affecting others in the meeting. This is the time to begin shaping the industry on a local level and keeping each other informed helps us to be aware of the issues that can impact our business. As Beth and I have held RT's in our area, I have found it hard to pull myself away from it and take the photos because it was so involving and interesting on so many levels. People have shared their experiences and pit falls which have not been without some level of familiarity to others. The questions asked are those of eagerness and earnest to find a better way. It shows me that the willingness to grow is strong. The important thing I come away with at the end is that we are on the same page on many issues and can address them in our daily business. I hope for anyone who would host a meeting the same. They are fun! Rod~
  10. What is your motivation?

So....you feel pretty strongly about this one, eh? ;) Just ribbing you. Nice list! Beth
  11. PWNA Convention in Dallas, Texas

I would not record the sessions they offer without their permission. Speak to Jack Pitzer, the Executive Director about it before doing it. I am sure you can take digital photos. I have seen camcorders in use, but I know that formal recordings are a whole other issue. I can't speak for the Board of Directors - I'm not on the board anymore. But I do know they want the attendees to get as much out of the convention as possible, and if you speak to them I know they will listen, and respond to your request. As for the Borad of Director's meeting, in the past they have been closed. The first official open and public meeting was in Atlanta last fall. As such all the topics were shared freely, and non-board members were in the room the whole time for all conversations. I would hope that the convention meeting will also be open to the public. If it is, then it is a great opportunity to learn how the Board works, and to see how much really does get done in a meeting. There is alot to discuss and consider. I think it is healthy for the org to be open. They should not have anything to hide. The BOD is made up of people who are nominated by a committee, but elected by the membership. Members are the reason they are there to work. Members who are not BOD members should also participate and get on committees or offer help as they can for the betterment of the org as they are able. It's going to take many, many people, rather than a handful, to make the kind of changes we all want to see with the least impact on any one person's business shedule. Beth
  12. What is your motivation?

Getting out from under the glass ceiling! Independance and the ability to make decisions for our future. Rod~
  13. George Carlin Jokes

George Carlin's Views on Aging Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions. "How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key. You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead. "How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!! But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! . He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed? You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone. But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would! So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60. You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday! You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92." Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!" May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!! HOW TO STAY YOUNG 1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay " them " . 2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. 3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's. 4. Enjoy the simple things. 5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. 6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive. 7. Surround yourself with what you love, Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge. 8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is un stable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help. 9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is. 10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity. AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. And if you don't send this to at least 8 people - who cares? But do share this with someone. We all need to live life to its fullest each day

I believe Mike is saying some BBS's are moderated better than others. Beth
  17. Old Tools

Mike, I've seen one or two of these in my life and the last time I saw one was about (telling my age here) 25-30 years ago. It looks like it is in pretty good condition. Is the tape rusted? Rod~
  18. Having a Roundtable

Freedom of speech is one of many great things about our contry. We have limits here too, but they are about being respectful and professional. More points of view are better than fewer. This leads to creative ideas and suggestions. :) Beth
  19. PWNA Convention in Dallas, Texas

Chris, You are not alone in your frustrations of the conventions schedules. There is a lot to attend and not enough hours in the day to give them all. In dealing with past conventions feedback, PWNA is trying to keep the convention time limited to 3-4 days so as not to take people away from their businesses too long. In addition, other issues are being dealt with in order to cover as much as possible from what I understand and as we all know, you cant please everyone. I would talk to them further and see what else they can offer. We learned quite a bit during the conventions we attended and I emphasize the plural. It took us several of them to get what we were looking for out of them. I know that is expensive for many, but we did so out of understanding that the org is a volunteer based one and they are doing the best they can. Patience helps. Rod~
  20. When and where do you vacation?

Put some photos up pleeeeaaaaasse! :) We sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, of Jewel of the Seas, which is Royal Caribbean. We went to Key West, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Grand Cayman. It was a BLAST. I'll pu t up some snorkeling stuff too. We snorkeled at Stingray City in Grand Cayman. We did some snorkeling at Cozumel too, but there was no comparison.
