I agree, disclosing company financial informantion is not commonly done. I too doubt many are comfortable disclosing proprietary information such as their annual revenue. Your annual revenue, all things being relative, is not the only measure of success. For example, many folks are happy being small, running no additional crews, and picking and choosing their work. These folks are by no means less successful or less professional. They may even have a higher profit margin. It depends on the business entirely. But the topic...pricing... linear feet? number of stories? :) Beth

Bigger Isn't Better?
Beth n Rod replied to John Doherty's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
A note of caution where chemical application is concerned. The x-jet is a fantastic tool, but the chemicals injected need to be applied with caution, with the proper PPE, and due to the nature of some chemicals ... some you just plain may not want to inject that way. You can harm both property and the technician if you downstream inject acids or caustics. I am speaking now to those who are new and learning and have NOT done this before. Please, get the correct PPE (personal protection equipment) and wear it. Also don't start out straight away injecting - start out with a simpler application method that will not throw up so much chem. Some methods require expereince in handling tools and chems prior to being used. Be safe. Ok...off the soapbox.:soapbox: Beth -

Degraffreed, For roof applications, others have posted that a 3.8 gpm pump was the pump of choice. For applications using a shurflo on the surfaces you mentioned, I can only think of using it to apply a sealer. Rod~ -
I've been snorkeling, but the rest of the family has not yet. (we are all planning to on this trip) You are right, snorkeling is a blast! We will also be swimming with the sting rays. :) The casinos should be fun, but we are also looking forward to hitting the dance floor, as we had very little time to do it this past year, and miss it. We are already thinking about next year's trip, and we have not even been on this one...yet! For those who enjoy europe, I can say Italy is wonderful. I spent 6 weeks there as a teen. I spent a week in England, but I think Paul has the real inside scoop there. Personally, give me a warm, sunny, tropical place, with fun things to do and good food...and I'll be happy. I'm part beach bum at heart. Might have to get my hands on a hobicat.... Beth

Which cruise line did you go on? Have you been on more than one? I went on one many years back on NCL, and loved it. We have one planned on Royal Caribbean currently. Can't wait! Tropical desinations are my favorite. Beth :groovy3:

Pumps, which do you use most?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Mike, Thank you for letting me know that. Good info. Anyone else use large volume pumps? What do you use them for? Also, what other brand of pumps do you use? Why? Rod~ -

What constitutes a 'Professional' ?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Business Topics & Tips
Being a professional certainly has a bias in perspective according to the poll. How can we as an industry define professional to our clients and can it become a standard through out the industry? There are some pretty intelligent minds here on TGS, lets here your ideas. Rod~ -
Bigger Isn't Better?

 Silly question........ If you run chem through the hose won't you have residue simply because you ran the chem through it? All hoses have a trickle of something left coming out right? Until the line is flushed the residue is there, isn't it? Also...the question arises...are some hoses better suited to a particular purpose by way of construction than others? Some hoses are meant to tolerate chems...others are not...what happens to the inside of the hose...perhaps deterioration of the inner lining? Beth -
Pumps, which do you use most?
Beth n Rod replied to Beth n Rod's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Thank you all for the responses to this thread and the poll. The results are pretty specific for the most part at this point. 1.2-1.6 & 1.8-2.4 gpm pumps are the most common. 60-100 psi is the preferred pressure (no pun intended there Alan :lgwave: ) and DC power has taken the lead! My pump is 1.2 gpm, 60psi, 12vdc and is used for applying chems. We will keep it open in the event someone else would like to contribute. :seeya: Rod~ -

We did our first set of gutters in 1999, and have done them ever since. Beth

Bigger Isn't Better?
Beth n Rod replied to John Doherty's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Henry, A dedicated system with the chem resistant hoses is by choice. I used to have alot of residue coming out of my pressure hose from injecting chems through it. The m-5 is a great tool. I almost forget that I need tips for other purposes because of the versatility the m-5 has. Rod~ -

Henry, It's not you and one other company. ( I know who you mean and yes he does tons of gutters - CHEAP) We do them too. ;) We are not as cheap as the other guy you are speaking of who runs in the paper. Personally I don't know why you don't raise your prices. If the other company (we both know who) is the only cheap guy in town and already doesn't get to people fast enough, the market will bear the increase. We raised our prices last year, and we get repeat and new business. People pay more than that to take a family of 4 to dinner these days for crying out loud, or to the movies if you include snacks. Carlos, we would love it. 301-540-8112 or email it, which ever works. Beth :groovy3: -
Cookie tip! If you make sugar cookies, make sure you have some fun cookie cutters and sprinkles to top them with. Make a family afternoon of it if you have children (or even if you don't) and help them decorate. Makes for great memories. Beth

Bigger Isn't Better?
Beth n Rod replied to John Doherty's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Paul, Almost, I still have the application system to install. It will involve a couple of hose reels with 200' @ (1/4"ID braided) for chem applications, 2 shurflo pumps (bypass or not, not yet decided) and pumptec spray guns w/pressure adjust. Will do on the pics when its done. Rod~ -

I think we are on the same page Henry. We get those calls too, and you are right. They are easy to spot. We never give phone quotes, but not for that reason. If you go to a Dr. you expect to be examined before a course of treatment is suggested. It's the same doing decks. You simply need to see it, I don't care how much they can tell you on the phone. There is always too much they can't tell you. They are not the pros. We are. Beth -
