Stain Cost and Water Marks...
Beth n Rod replied to GreatStain's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Next time you wash that fence, try sealing it with an acrylic instead of an oil. It will help. Otherwise, with a non-drying oil this problem will repeat. Other solution: move the sprinkler. Beth- 2 replies

Possible problem
Beth n Rod replied to Bailey Property Service's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Adam is on the right track with his questions. Sikkens, when stripping, we found that if you brush it during the applications process (soft bristle truck wash type-yellow), it helps to remove layers instead of waiting for the stripper to penetrate. It goes much faster this way and gets more even results. -

Des Moines Deck Cleaning
Beth n Rod replied to John Burdine's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Cedar is a problematic wood for decking anyway. Is is soft and crushes easily with foot traffic, pet claws and furniture placement/movement. Anything installed that creates a 'stiff' environment in cedar will only cause the wood fibers to become more brittle and break more readily than they already do. Clear or stain, that is another subject all in itself. But silicone has been a problem for penetration issues and in the case of a customer who is thinking of selling that property, one faces the potential of having to deal with that very same issue if they were the installer and the new customer wants something else on it. That's a hard fact we all deal with but one I will inform my clients of. Good thread. Rod!~ -

An overly strong acid to brighten will also silver up the wood. You can always rewash it if you are not satisfied. Make sure you pay attention to the ratios. What are you going to seal with? Beth -

PT Pine Test Pieces ... RS sucked right in; AC not so much
Beth n Rod replied to wdcrvr's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
We prefer AC to RS for a number of reasons. Longevity being the main one.... Beth -
Keenan perhaps if he helped you, you should call him and personally thank him. As for the rest, I'm not ashamed at all about sticking up for myself, our company, or our forum. However shame on the person who takes a swipe at me, our company or our forum. I don't take it from anyone. Beth

Oh, and for the record, I'm sure Doug has helped many people, just as many others here have helped people. But the jabs that come from this political alignment will not be tolerated. (from him or from anyone else) It's a curious thing how the people taking the jabs at us, are the ones who are closest to the leader of another org and owner of another forum. It makes me ask why they feel the need to push the envelope and push button to the point of being banned when they have seen and read and been told what the threshold is. Seems simple to me. Seems like they want to make myself and others here look like the bad guys. We aren't. Folks who come here, want a peaceful place to learn and grow their business. We choose to do it without the innuendo drama that some posters live to post and stir the pot with. And, if it means we keep the peace, then that is what it means. Oh and Ron, the post #15 you mentioned - I did see that. It was vague like many of your posts and could easily be read as the opposite of what you claim it was written as. Others have seen it this way too, and have pointed it out to me as such. Have a super day. Beth
