Armstrong-Clark maintenance
Beth n Rod replied to RPetry's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Rick, You don't see the mildew in that shot? I bet if you go wipe it with a rag you get black off of it and have color under it. Last year we did our own deck with AC Super Cedar (mostly to the floor - our rails still had old Wood Tux), it was a horribly wet year. Got mildew growth. Rod washed it last week so we could strip the old Wood Tux off of the rails, and color remains even on the floor. I agree the deck should clean up well, and will pop with a nice refresher coat. No, you are right, but my point is that it starts with something and ***** was that big something. Something that lights a fire and makes a person act. I got involved with the PWNA early on cause I saw the benefits and promoted it hard in my area. Then someone (no need for names) started making waves and misdeeds against the members, I being one of the offended, and made me stand up for what I believed in. Whether or not Ron is getting involved as a rumor I think is setting a stage for more drama in the form of supposition and assumption. There is much opinion going around and little if any of it is getting things moving in the right direction. We (this industry) needs do'ers with the members of it in mind. Therein lies the solution to making an organization functional. Anything else is self-serving and that is what most people have a problem with. I don't know what the point of your post is as of this time, but from where I sit, you are practically in the bucket another $20 if you ask me. :P Rod!~

Maybe I can put this into perspective here; The ***** was a new start for many and a chance to put bad memories to rest. It was a hope for many that something would come from their efforts and help to push this org forward only to be daunted at every turn both from within and from without. Some have a vision of what an org can do for this industry while others fail to find it of any use to them. The rest watch and wait while some take the leap of faith and join only to see little benefit afterwords and feel a negative experience based upon what they do or do not receive. The watchers sit back and feel justified they did nothing. Meanwhile, there are people like Ron who have a passion for what they do and in that they formalize their actions and try to move forward in an organization because they see the potentials of what it could bring. Then, some try to take personal advantage of it and bring a bad light to anyone associated with that organization by their actions. Ron, does not just go quietly into the night, he sticks his head out the window and lets the world know that something is wrong and who he feels is responsible. He acts and brings a light onto the subject and those responsible for the misdeeds scurry into the shadows. He is in a line of others who are the proverbial 'Watchdogs' in this industry who speak up to keep others from taking advantage of those who placed a trust. Am I a fan or foe, doesn't matter, I see things for what they are and do not begrudge a man in his convictions. As long as he is fighting for others and not just for himself, he earns a modicum of respect in that regard. PWNA is making a comeback and if they are looking for someone to fill a position they would be gaining an amplified loudspeaker to take place of the current church mouse. I am listening. Rod!~

Nausea From Stain and other thoughts about deck restoration
Beth n Rod replied to stefvell's question in Wood Cleaning & Restoration - Decks, Fences, etc.
Let me get this straight....NO PPE....and the symptoms show up 4 hours AFTER....and you think it is the sealer? We work with AC all the time, no ill effects. It is low VOC so no - there is not "gasoline" in the product. Was it really hot where you were? Are you aware that one of the symptoms of heat stress is nausea? Were you hydrated and following OSHA's suggestions for working safe in the sun? No offense, but I doubt it was the sealer. A burger at Mc D's will do the same thing 4 hours later. Beth -

Sounds like a proponent of Intelligent design to me. This earth has been around for a long time and quite longer than is given in the bible which in terms of history only equates to about 6000 years. Rod!~

This Liberal/Conservative labeling thing is just a cloud in the way of true logic and only serves to polarize and divide. Let's put this into perspective shall we? The founding fathers of our nation were liberal! The act of breaking away from years of rule is a liberal motion. The act of establishing a different form of government for the people, by the people and of the people instead of being ruled by a king or queen is a liberal action. This is a liberal country by creation and by the way the legislative bodies have been set up in order to enact new laws, change old ones or repeal them completely is a liberal form. Conservatism sticks to the old ways and does not want change. Heck, we changed a bit doncha think? So please spare me and others the divisive labeling and leave the politics to those we can vote out of office if they don't do their job. I respect you guys as well but sometimes I don't think you really think things through when it comes to what we are discussing here. When you call a person who stands up for the laws of this land a liberal as a slur, you are slapping the face of those who formed it and fought to defend it. Btw, I would like to clarify one thing: I am not a liberal nor am I a conservative... I am an American. Rod!~- 163 replies

Oh boy, you let em pull you in again didn't you?!?!? I like a spirited debate as much as the next person, but man, this one was whack! Sorry, but I can't let this one go without a response. Anarchy eh? Are you serious? I would prefer to encourage you to give that one some serious thought cause what you are proposing is not what the founding fathers had in mind. Otherwise, they would not have established a form of government to help protect the civil liberties that your solution would jeopardize. Free market, let me take a poke at that one as well. Ever buy Chinese drugs? This is but one major example I can postulate for anyone who is seriously considering that a free market is a good idea. Without the licensing and the laws that precede it to give it a basis for existing, this society would not exist in the form we all know and enjoy today. Sorry, but a free market without regulation means without responsibility or accountability and don't try to tell me it doesn't. Communistic market systems don't work and it is why Russia and other communist countries have failed economically and are so poor not to mention unworthy of the world market for trade. Many endure criminal conduct and poor quality products without any government interference. I thought communism was not a welcome idea here in the US!?!? Rod!~- 163 replies
