  1. Yeah but 123 is not meant to be the deck coating really either. Don't even start me on the Rubbol garbage.  We have several SRD clients, the product works well for them and they are happy. We only have a few DEK customers we maintain, but they are on a meticulous schedule wiith us and know what they are in for. We do not install new DEK.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with using an acrylic on the rails  and a matching oil on the floor, it reduces the maintenance cost on the deck dramatically.Been doing it for years.

  2. We did one cornflower blue aluminum sided house and while the house for the most part looked quite fine, there was a section just beyond the

deck where it looked like someone had thrown some kind of liquid on that side and it looks darker than the rest.

The customer tried to blame us for it but we assured them we could not create that effect with our cleaners.

We rewashed the siding and brushed it to ensure we got every bit cleaned but when it dried, the splash effect

    was still there.

They tried to tell us that it wasn't there before despite the oxidation present which hid the effect till we washed it.
Nothing could be done to change it and that was that.
We concluded that someone had to have thrown something on the siding and created the condition long before us.

  3. Most of the oil based stain products for Ipe require a mildewcide.
As Rick pointed out, linseed is a natural food for mold and will proliferate wildly on surfaces it is applied to.

One clear indicator is that the mold grows all the way up the rails and undersides where applied.

Normally, mold only grows in the 'splash' zones of the rails at the first 6"-10" from the bottom.

  4. That should have been a 2 hour job. What cleaners did you use on it?

    Get an X-Jet, M-5.

Learn what blend (and why) to make a good house washing solution.

DO keep an extension, and also a lightweight aluminum lance to connect to the gun with the X-Jet on the other end, for extra throw distance so you can remain on the ground. Keep a soft bristled truck washing brush.....just in case.

Maybe Rod will also chime in....
