Manufacturers have been bulk-purchasing for lower price for years ..are you sure you want a "bean-counter" special-ordering a pump for you !?? take it from a "long-Term-Low-Cost" specialist.. what you NEED is this.. from whatever manufacturer.. 1. BIG inlets for tank feed.. on tank-feed systems, the bigger inlets ...deliver the water easier, for more reliable seals ! ....The AR XW series has 3/4" inlets, .... ..General TSF and HTF have 'em too, ....but the parts are expensive by comparison ! Udor GC series has 3/4" inlets too, parts should be less than General.. Maybe Russ can answer that Q. 2. parts cost and availability will make you, or break you on a bad day, in front of your best customer. ....nuf said. 3. Beefy Bronze Rods.. aluminun alloy rods DON'T hold up, when the oil gets low, and the oil WILL get low ..when you're not looking. Good Job on the input guys !! ..Balance for Safety is FIRST priority !! configuration for serviceability, is a close second.. that's all about the elimination of downtime. Eh? we like to have the tank over the axle, so full or empty makes no difference. And modular equipment is SWEET ! ... put the heater in the back, between the reels, and the pump-skid in the front of the trailer, on the passenger side (..easy access from the sidewalk). All opf our systems are modular for these reasons, and more. Safety: Once you go over 240 degreesF...
Jerry posted a topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
After some of the posts I've seen in these bloggs.. and I have to interject this.. Once you go over 240degreesF. with pressure, you'd better come up with some seriously abuseable hose to handle it ! And I don't mean the best brand.. I mean something better than standard R2 hose.. I haven't seen (yet,) a hose properly rated for over 250 degrees F AND over 1000psi at the same time.. Look at the combo hose.. if you go over the 250 degrees, the pressure rating drops to 500psi ! and it's only R1.. R2 version hasn't tuned up on the "affordable list" yet. ..and it won't as long as y'all keep asking for"cheaper" than cheap. Now the reliability part of my point.. and I'm not "pullin any punches" on this one.. For anything over 220 degrees, MOST systems are borderline DANGEROUS.. You need severely reliable controls for going over 220 degrees safely.. There are only 2 manufacturers (I know of) that use redundant temp.controls, and I believe we are still the only manufacturer using redundant Pressure relief valves... before AND after the unloader. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT rely on a pressure switch alone, to control the heater over 190 drgress. I don't condone them at all, because they don't last as long as a FLOW switch, and they can allow heat-ON without flow flowing ! For redundancy, OK, add pressure switch to flow switch, and sleep better, whilst "yer peeps is out thrashing yer stuff". EH? and "RESPECT THE TECH" ..isn't a plea for a job.. I spew that stuff to help you consider what pool of information you take the biggest drink. some of the "suggestions" found in bloggs are near poison. There are SO MANY flaws in "the most popular" systems out there, just to keep you a little safer.. I'm offering to look at close-up images of your system to evaluate it for reliability and safety NO charge. just e-mail 'em to me. Before you go over 190 degrees, your system should be "evaluated" by a tech.. ..one that actually understands how these machines FAIL ! ..If you plan to go over 250 drgrees AND stay over 1000psi, CALL me for another level of FREE advise.. I'm a well educated tech, and troubleshooter, offering free info that WILL help you stay safer, and / or help you work with more confidence. With fewer liability problems on the jobsite, and in your workforce, you can "keep" ...more of what you earn. Eh? BE CAREFULL !!! High pressure can put you in the hospital for a month, High Temp. can put you in that hospital for another month, or worse. Safety: Once you go over 240 degreesF...
Jerry replied to Jerry's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I know I can easily sound like a salesman, or at least get interpreted that way, but this IS all "from the service dept".. Even if you have a machine from one of the biggest names in the business, the newer it is, the more it's nothin' more than you would get at Home Depot. They used to be "somethin'. with reliability that made the "name", and now, all you have is a "bean-counter riding it into the ground". My point is this.. ..and I say it all through these bloggs.. "How it's plumbed" is from where you get reliability. BIG feed lines, especially when tank-fed, bypass to the tank, eliminate "flow-restrictive" fittings, and DON'T rely on a pressure switch for heat control. The only problem with High Voltage Ignitors on 12 volts is the way they're wired, and oh, I'll stop there.. those beancounters fired the technical-guy years ago.. Get it ?!?? Who you CAN rely on.. is Alkota and EnviroSpec are the ONLY manufacturers I can think of, that have consistently "not gone backwards" on reliability, and that makes them #2 & 3, as I've ALWAYS tried to make our pressure washers and Vacuums SUPER-safe, SUPER-reliable, and SO easy to service, we talk people through troubleshooting our systems in minutes. For Real. But, my credentials are not the point here.. The point IS.. the fact that several major manufacturers have NO credentials in "key positions". I'm not goin to name the names here, but two manufacturers for sure, are making heater shells SO wimpy, that instead of an old-fashioned "coil-blow-out" from old-age, or a pressure switch that got stuck.. ..the whole thing blows chunks across the parking lot.. That was a $2000. repair ! and you want to set it for MORE temp !?? let it suffice to say.. the on-line-mail order companies, and at least one MAJOR machine mfr, put you at risk ! and until you extract those factory-installed bugs, don't even THINK you can monkey-rig more heat. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your "do-it yourself" way of thinking, I'm just trying to get y'all on the same page with getting the technical help you MUST have, to minimize risk, liability, and of course.. wasted time. can I get an amen? -
To reduce, or eliminate the possibility of algae in your tank system.. I recommend addind a capfull of bleach to a full tank of water that will stand for a couple of days, every month or so. My customers tell me that does the trick. The pump is strong enough to suck the filter-screen through, on some filters, so.. you may have some debris in one of your valves, or stuck in the unloader, but.. If the seals are worn in the pump, you may have "finished them off". ther easiest thing to check is the valves in the pump.. take them out and inspect them, with a "fine-tooth comb". ..call me if you don't know what that means in this application. DON'T FORGET to take out the o-rings under the check valves, and inspect them too.. If it is flat, or has "rat-bites" in it from "the trauma", replace them ! WE've found some beefy, easy-to-clean filters for up to 12gpm what work nicely for tank-feed ..you'll be able to SEE (and notice) the debris in them easier, and if you haven't heard our suggestions on how to plumb a pump for reliability, e-mail me for FREE lit on "pump inspection." Reliability, and abuseability becomes more profitable workspeed. one more "silly little thing that makes a big difference".. there is an internal filter in the fuel pump even if the primary filter is "always kept clean", you should know that moisture in the fuel eventually allows enough rust to grow inside the fuel pump, it cloggs itself ! Again, I'm reminding you GET a 0-200psi fuel pressure GUAGE ON the fuel pump, or you'll fumble with the troubleshooting, every time it goes down. Sooting of the coil, is a "burn problem".. Usually, it's as simple as an air-mixture adjustment, sometimes it's an electrode adjustment. Get a "tune-up" on your heater every 12 months, ..especially for that bouncy-trailer mounted system. E-mail me for free instructions, if you like. key-words "Burner Tune-up" If the fuel pressure is below 100psi (for diesel fuel), the dropletts in the fuel-spray, are too large to burn completely before they "slam-into" the bottom of the heater-coil, and drip into a puddle.. Sometimes you'll see unburned fuel dripping down from under the burner, but your first clue, is the sooty-fumes rising out the top of your heater as it burns, or, the white-smoke from the un-burned fuel vaporizing after the main-flame goes out. glad to help. The first benefit in having a vacuum for the down-spouts, is wash water control.. You now have to deal with it, so.. the more ways you can use the vacuum, the faster it can pay for itself. If you work faster, you make more per hour. If you do a better job, you get referrals from your customers. Leading-edge (custom system) manufacturers make it possible for you to profit. Back on the vac for gutter cleaning.. There's a big difference between fan-type vacuum motors, and positive-displacement blower-vacs.. Until you've seen a 16+ horsepower dragging whatever out-the down-spout, you're missing some profitable work, on existing jobs. Even if you only use a vacuum to more easily control the clean-up, you're better off, and you can hold up "the Enviro-Friendly flag". Eh? If you call me from the field, I’m going to ask you what the fuel pressure guage says.. get one. I’ll ask what’s the running voltage of the system.. check it with a voltmeter. I’m going to ask the condition of the terminals and connections. Also, condition of fuel supply. The intermittant ignition problems are otherwise, simple adjustment issues, but.. we don't recommend the same electrode setting for pressure washers as the Burner Mfr's do.. these are NOT "residential" oil-burners.. E-mail me for a FREE instructions-diagram with our proven, reliable recommendation. You can't bank on luck... you need real practical common sense analysis. Think about HOW these things work. I totally agree with OffDuty-Will.. Did you know, the GX series line of engines that put Honda on the map is now over 30 years old !?? Our service dept. has proof they "don't make-'em like they used to" and with the way we've been treated by their customer service dept.. I have NOTHING good to say about 'em. We "can" (reluctantly) build systems with the Honda engines, but. we seriously recommend others.. Kohler and B&S Vanguard are longer-term-lower-cost.. less expensive parts, easier access to parts, ..and of course.. more reliable horsepower. and to more directly answer yer Q.. We love Kohler V-twins.. they always have the guts to perform. The ONLY trouble we've had centers around the "difficult to troubleshoot" ingition system.. that is, more difficult than a Briggs, since you're guessing until you pay someone with the special tester to diagnose the HV or spark-advance as the problem.. It's just unessesary downtime. Eh? Call or e-mail any question. We’re glad to help ! Vacuum and filtration systems should be considered quite modular.. Electrically driven, or gas-engine driven systems can be capable of evacuating whatever you want to suck up, as fast as you can afford to go. And filtration can manage "bucklet-loads", or barrel-loads, as required for profitable work-speed. Some of you already have a system for wash water control.. just add a DebrisBag to an existing VacWasteTank, and you have an easier way of cleaning a bucket-load of debris out of it. need more capacity ?? add a DebrisTrap, and trap a barrel-full.. Many modular and affordable components are available for work-speed, Call your local service center for the latest info from the manufacturers, that's (supposed to be) one of the benefits in having local service. What kind of Unloader is this?
Jerry replied to jgotterb's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Yep, we need to see images !! AVOID the unloaders with the built-in EasyStart valve ! the more ways a component can fail, the more it will. and.. it will be more difficult to troubleshoot. ..use a sepatate EZ start, or with the FLOW actuated unloaders, you don't need one, as they don't trap pressure when the gun is off. Prefer the bypass to tank, prefer FLOW-actuated unloaders, ALWAYS allow unloaders to bypass a little for long life.. the seats don't hammer or erode as fast. I prefer the Giant and General versions.. the K-7 is the most rebuildable, but maxs out at 3600psi. to 9gpm the Giant 22654A goes to 4000 psi, but 5gpm max the K-9 is too expensive, and the AL-Saturn.. will waste your time. e-mail me or call for adjustment instructions, and plumbing configurations. You want quality Service, we want the Repeat business. ..all the time knowing, when you see the results of good work, and the job is "Well Done".. there are plenty referrals. You want referrals too.. Drive up with a professional looking system, and your "claim to professionalism" has a visual foundation.. one of the sweetest forms of "enticement" (you call it salesmanship). The last "competitive rig you saw.. Remember that ? ..the cruddy-looking machine?? and the reel that's about to fall-off on the freeway?? You remembered that. That "funk" that was running down the floorboards.. and that tank.. ..disgustingly memorable. When people are responsible for a service or product, they remember.. the Sweet from the handicapped, and the Hot-Rod from the clunkers. I want high-performance customers, that will pay a reasonable price, for a job well done, in a timely manner, whilst growing a stronger tomorrow. You don't have to be an optimist to understand "Looking the part," and collecting smiles on delivery. Now, go forth, turn a terrific profit next year ! The reclaim "gig" means more profitable cleaning contracts than ever before. As you work it.. Remember your chosen specialty.. contract cleaning. I totally agree with Richard, I'd like to add.. The key to survival, is to "Stop the self-perpetuating mistakes". The "stone in your shoe", is a self-perpetuating mistake. Not addressing a problem is a self-perpetuating mistake. Not checking security, is. Not checking your sails, is. Not doing follow-ups, is. Not knowing your competition, can be. Not showing up for a job on time, is. Not asking for referrals, after the customer says you did a good job, is. Every time you feel "held-back".. Look inside yourself for the answers. Faith in yourself is the most valuable tool. WHen you focus inward, you find the mistakes you can fix the easiest.. your own... It's ALL about your Reaction To your environment. Eh? When you look inside yourself, and mend what's broken, or adjust for efficiency, you will find a stronger you, and along the way, you can see its affect on others. The truest path to strength, is the elimination of weakness. If you perceive yourself as "at the bottom of a barrel".. realize it's just a rut, and climb you own a$$ out. Eh? Rich is right.. we all “walk into” our own ruts. But the climbing our makes us stronger. life IS a "test" of endurance AND composure. for all Good reasons. You must have Faith. STOP ALL self-perpetuating mistakes, at every opportunity. It saved my life, it saved my business. …but it might make you too ..talk in metaphors. :) Jerry McMillen President, Cleaning System Specialists, Inc. jerry@pressurewasher.net dba PressureWasher.netcall 800-400-Clean (2532) 10821 Airport Drive El Cajon, Calif. 92020 office 619-448-8111 manufacturers of… BullDogProIndustrial Water Blasters Sirocco Reclaim Systems, and theVacuBerm
