  1. Intro: I have recently joined the PWNA and I have accepted a position to be part of its Environmental Committee. For those that know me (810F250 forums id), my initial industry focus is/was pressure cleaning equipment and systems, the last two years focusing on existing wash water requirements within my immediate areas of Maryland, along with industry wash water disposal/capture and pre-treatment technologies . Unfortunately I am unable to say I know the entire history of the PWNA or every detailed aspect of these bmp's, however I am offering my input as power wash service provider, PWNA member; I am open to learning, my hope is to make a valuable contribution. BMP comments:(Reviewing post 1 to 3 ) Cosmetic cleaning defined on page 2 of the CITY OF FORT WORTH ENVIRONMENT CODE CHAPTER 12.5 ARTICLE III - STORMWATER PROTECTION document http://water.epa.gov/polwaste/nps/upload/nps-ordinanceuments-fort-worth-sw.pdf Cosmetic cleaning means cleaning done for cosmetic purposes. It does not include industrial cleaning, cleaning associated with manufacturing activities, hazardous or toxic waste cleaning, or any cleaning otherwise regulated under federal, state, or local laws. From Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 122.2 Definitions: Process wastewater means any water which, during manufacturing or processing, comes into direct contact with or results from the production or use of any raw material, intermediate product, finished product, byproduct, or waste product. Some contractors have an issue with the term "Cosmetic Cleaning" and believe the term "Cosmetic Cleaning" does not holistically (or adequately) reflect our power washing/pressure cleaning service offering, lets discuss this, what could be recommended. The link listed in the pics Robert H " http://www.epa.gov/nps/ordinance/documents/forthworthsw.pdf " does not work , however there is this related page Model Ordinances to Prevent and Control Nonpoint Source Pollution | Polluted Runoff | US EPA (updated 10/17/2012) I found this older pictured PWNA/***** BMP document on the web here BMP-Cosmetic-Cleaning dated 8/3/2011; reading the bottom of page 3 to the top of page 4 , it identifies filtering through a 20 mesh (which is approximately 841 microns, according to US Forestry mesh to micron web page : the current PWNA document under review mentions 200 mesh which is 74 microns. I also remember some of the older videos with the vacuum sludge filtering system, mentioning 200 micron for pre-treatment discharge to sanitary. With all this info out there , which is the requirement?

    Can relate, used to load a 13hp honda direct drive 4 gpm in a '99 accord, not the trunk but removed the front passenger seat. You can put a hitch on the maxima, and pull the unit on a ultra compact trailer, .....gx390 units are much heavier than your current setup

    Thanks for the reply Micky, I asked because I had these experiences : had a pump act somewhat similar (second unit), ..... pressure, low pressure, no water but the engine sounded like it was under load, switched the unloader and it remedied the issue. It was a then 13hp honda with belt driven cat 5cp . I never worked on a pump before, but I also switched out my first machine direct drive cat pump 66DX pump , because it was doing the same thing, I then I purchased a head test kit, started the pump without an unloader and realized it was the unloader that was shot.

    Sorry to here about your machine issues NewGuy, the positive side your are hopefuly on the way to more reliable power +1 mick m, but could the unloader produce some of the same symptoms?

  10. Mosmatic Surface Cleaner Question???

    Thats not 100% accurate Micky, Mechanical swivels of this basic design, on occasion can leak (sometimes brand new out of the box, on occasion they just stop out of the blue, )............ if it dribbles no major issue, the working fluid is non hazardous. And as Tracy correctly identifies, a dribble would assist in lubricating the rotating faces. When the seal squirts, you have a problem.     Good job, thanks for the video, the fat boy may give a little more kick if it was attached to a 12v charging system, like that of a pressure washer (if pw in use ). I dont think the fat would have liked the 5/8 hose.

    You think that is cold Jon, maryland was even colder, had to get my neighbors kid to school because their cars that were parked outside over night would not open (locks would open but the doors were ice welded shut after all the rain and then freezing temps)

  20. Jerry, defoaming with the method I described may get expensive fast, I dont even know what the cost is per gallon on defoamer or how much it may require. Looks like from your post above a little goes a long way, great idea too... I have heard of another good method, but I am bound by a non disclosure agreement.
  21. Scott, the TRV is not all that great I agree, only had it open once, and the water was only in bypass for a minute, but the inlet water temp was above ambient. . . . With respect to the heating coil Shawn, ask the manufacturer or reseller: the size and length of coil, (there is a manufacturer chart for the quantity of burning fuel in boiler, have to look for one) if it cold water wrapped, what is the set fuel pressure and nozzle size the machine is shipped with, (what is the maximum fuel that can successfully be burned in combustion chamber, remember if you are increasing the heat output you may have to look at changing the temp control devices too)

Hey Shawn, if you look at my video again, the first pressure washer with the brown pump and gear box (unit 1), has the built in unloader on the pump head that Jerry is talking about, which does kill pump seals when left in bypass. (meaning the machine is running but the trigger gun is not depressed, the water that the pump is pumping has to go somewhere,..... If you look at the second unit in my video with the blue pump (belt drive) (unit 2), when the unit 2 is running and the trigger is not pulled the water is flowing from a clear tubing, this is the bypass water that you cannot see in unit 1. This flowing water from the clear tubing in unit 2 is usually plumbed back to your holding tank (but I just had it running to the ground in the video) Path of water: (unit 1) water enters the pump on the suction side (where red inlet hose is) and the pumped to the outlet (black hose) but cannot get out because the trigger gun is closed, the water has to go somewhere so it is re-circulated back to the inlet, and this continuous cycling of water with in the pump body develops heat and the heat destroys pumps seals. Now if you look closely at the video at 0.25 seconds (pause it) you would see a black connection to the right side of the pump, this is called a thermal relief valve.. and it is connected to the inlet bank of the pump head, it is designed to open at about 140 to 150 degrees F to help protect the seals from getting overheated. But even with that setup of unit 1, it can still be improved (would not explain now, but unit 2 is the best option with respect to plumbing to protect the pump seals)
  23. Thanks for the update John. Did your local shop make the conical bottom on the 55 gallon steel drum?, looks great. How has the reduction of the degreaser affect the cleanliness of the surface. (Does the degreaser help more with heavily oil/grease surfaces,.. and is not need for maintenance cleaning with less build up of oil/grease) You could use a deformer that is drawn into the vacuum tank and controlled with a needle valve
