  1. Northern tool is a good company, the people are nice and sometimes know what they are talking about, but you can always come here to get honest answers, that is what this board is about. Their products are for the most part compatiable with everyone else in the industry on the low end of the dollar scale. It is difficult to compete on price sometimes, but thats business. When you get more established and you decide that this business is for you then make the investment in quality products. There are a lot of good manufacturers out there, do your homework and get somthing good and you will not be disappointed, down time costs money in more ways than one. In the mean time if you have any questions feel free to call and I will be happy to help, as I am sure many others her will as well.
  2. Two thumbs up for Talladega Nights!

A definate must see, I am not a big Will Farrell fan but I laughed my a... off, so did my wife. A lot of good one liners and never really slow.
  3. Tools Of The Trade

Pressure washer-ok, wand-ok, water broom-ok for rinsing not much else, power brushes-a waste, you are better off with a manual brush and a pole. The surface cleaner- what they said, hose reel-ok but I would by 100' of hose and keep the 50 as a spare or for extra reach, you will probably need at least 150 ft anyway. For now I would stick with the downstreaming as well. Good luck, I hope it works out. If you have questions you can always call.
  4. Hot Box 12volt Vs 115 Volt

12v systems can be very reliable if you protect them from surges or power spikes. The only real downside that I have run across is the cost of replacement parts, or charging/battery issues. I had problems with power supplies a few years back always burning out. I have never had that problem with the 110v, but then my generators go out from time to time so... it is all about the same.
  5. The Fleet

    That is so true Ron.
  6. Double Unloaders!

You are right the unloader does not adjust the "pressure" but it does adjust the flow. So reducing the flow by sending the water into bypass you cause a reduction in pressure at the tip. You can always go with a larger tip which will also degrease your pressure without affecting your flow. Then you will not need an additional unloader, but your water usage will remain at 5.5gpm.
  7. Venting trailer?

It also keeps your equipment cooler so the heat is exhausted out of the box and fresh air is drawn in.
  8. what gives

Sounds familiar. My wife, and daughter keep wanting me to paint my daughters room, again. But I have been pretty good at stalling for now.
  9. Double Unloaders!

Wow, i don't know that a pressure washer is the right piece of equip for cleaning carpet, those units only apply the chem and water at like 10psi or somthing like that. But if you want to set up your machine like that it can be done. Or you could just install quick connects or twist lock couplers on the unloaders and swith them that way.
  10. Pump of choice

I am partial to General pumps, I have always had good luck with them. They suck well from a tank, are very reasonably priced, and parts are everywhere and inexpensive. For an extra $100 bucks or so I can buy a new General pump for what it costs to rebuild a Cat. Comet and AR seem to make a good quality pump as well, very compariable to General. Cat pumps are good, I just have not had good luck with them in my applications.
  11. 3/8th vs. 1/2

I use the downsizing trick as well, It works for me 150' 3/8 plus another 20' worth of jumper hoses on the truck to the hose reels. Another benefit that I have found is they last longer, as the injector tip wears it just grows to the the next size up. It just doesn't suck as well.
  12. I have two hot water diesel units in one truck with 1500 gal of water running 3000 @ 5.6 gpm ea, and a second truck with 500 gal and 3000 psi @ 5.6. When I first started I ran the same type of machine output you are looking at 3000 @ 4 gpm. It was a hot water unit so that helped with flat surface and vehicles but it was a night and day difference when I swiched to a higher gpm. I actually used less water to do my jobs by going to a higher gpm because of the time savings it generated. Don't get me wrong though, I am not trying to push you and I don't really know your financial situation, but if you can afford it invest in a better machine to start and it will last longer and save money, and most importantly time, in the long run. (time is money)
  13. An American

Here is an e-mail I received that I thought I would share. Written by an Australian Dentist....and too good to delete.... To Kill an American You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is. So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!) "An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans. An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness. An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America. Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists. So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American. Please keep this going! Pass this around the World, then pass it around again. It says it all, for all of us
  14. I took a look at the machine and they ar basically identical except for the .5 gpm and the stainless steel cart vs powdercoat steel.
  15. Finally NFL Football Season!

Yes, I know it is tough, I grew up with the teams in the 70's, but when they had all those years of winning you sort of get used to it. Favre will bring them back, or end up having his touchdown-interception numbers be the same. Green looked pretty good though, just alot of young players to work with. At least that is somthing to look forward to.
  16. Will this flow switch work?

That is a very good deal.
  17. That is a good start, you are headed in the right direction, Here are my random thoughts. You might want to get a machine with a higher GPM (gallons per min) output, it will save a lot of time and you will be much happier with the results. Downstream injection is an injector that is placed after the pump and inline with the pressure hose to inject chemical in the line. An M5 is a downstream injector, it is just placed at the end of your gun insted of up by the pressure washer. Mabye someone in your area will give you the labor for learning school?
  18. Finally NFL Football Season!

It looks like my Packers are back to the way they were when I was a kid. Now I know how my parents felt.
  19. hello

Welcome, I hope you do well with your business.
  20. Hotsy Burner

Here is a link to a discussion we had about the insulaton before. http://forums.thegrimescene.com/showthread.php?t=7885
  21. Decker5

Picture is too small to see, at least for me.
  22. help with trailer setup

I would mount it directly to the floor, you dont want any movemet of the machine base during transport. The slightest movement can cause it to break loose. Besides the machine itself should have some vibration dampeners built into it if they are needed, (the good ones will).
  23. plexiglass windows

A fine polishing compound works well I have used it to take scratches on the plexiglass windows on my equipment.
  24. extension pole

Stay away from the push button pin lock poles they break pretty easy, and the twist lock ones are even worse. I have had the bes luck with the lever lock, the seem to last the longest and held up the best when we used them in my truck wash, up and down at least 4 times a truck. Check out harbor freight they have some decent ones cheap.
