Hot water skid direction
Paul Kassander replied to map_911's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I agree with Mike a balanced load will work much better, try to distribute the weight as equal as possible and make sure no matter how it is loaded that you maintain a certain amount of tongue weight. If you don't the trailer will get squirrelly going down the road. -
Maintenance is always important to extend the life of whatever it is you are cleaning, rust and mildew never sleep and it doesn't take long for it to do irreversible damage.

Pumps and equipment for awning cleaning
Paul Kassander replied to Mark Gallison's question in Residential Pressure Washing
'Pressure Washer' is just a generic term to describe the equipment. Change the nozzle and call it "low pressure" or "soft washing" either way you still have a pump and an engine. There is nothing wrong with that, it is all in how you use your equipment. There are plenty of "soft washers" that use a pressure washer to do their work, they just reduce the pressure. -
Pumps and equipment for awning cleaning
Paul Kassander replied to Mark Gallison's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You may look into a small homeowner type unit for that. Really all you need to do is increase the size of the nozzle to drop your pressure, you will still maintain your flow rate which will help you to clean faster. -

If you load up the unit with fuel you will be pulling the coil either way to replace the insulation. I have run both types for over 18 years and they both provide what they should...hot water. There are a few minor differences and benefits of each, but like I said it is a personal preference thing more than anything else IMO. -
Unloader questions
Paul Kassander replied to jgotterb's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
It bypasses the water so the pressure is relieved and the pump does not blow up. Heat is a byproduct of the friction of the water and the more is circulates in a closed loop the hotter the water will get. This is way many will run the line back to the tank so it keeps the water cooler (doesn't pass through the pump as many times in a short period) or install a engine terminator that shuts down the engine if the water gets too hot. As for adjusting the unloader it will depend on the type you have but you can read it all here. http://envirospec.com/techlib/ -
Allison Super Skids
Paul Kassander replied to map_911's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
John has taken a lot of time to come up with some innovative changes on this equipment to really make it durable an reliable as well as easier for the contractor to service them. Things like burner relays, oversize charging systems, and various component placement are key features in our design. One of the latest things we are most proud of is the integration of the burner diagnostic center with LED lights. Now if you can tell if a light is on or off you can fix your units (similar to the attached picture). The vertical units are a little more efficient and the horizontals are shorter in overall height. Both use the same components, really what it comes down to more than anything is personal preference on design. -
Hardiplank cleaning recommendation
Paul Kassander replied to rj242's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I am betting it has something to do with the wall behind it and a temp differential issue. -
Hardiplank cleaning recommendation
Paul Kassander replied to rj242's question in Residential Pressure Washing
A regular house wash mix should be fine, if you are getting a strange oxidation in the paint it could be a bad paint or the surface wasn't properly prepped prior to paint. Discoloration can be caused by a reaction with certain cleaners so do a test spot first. As a whole Hardiplank isn't cleaned any different than any other painted surface. -
What nozzle sizes for downstreaming.
Paul Kassander replied to Oxfordlawn's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Any nozzle over a #40 size will work for you. I would suggest a 0040 and a 1540 if you are looking for range. Fof closer stuff or better draw you could use a #50 and a 2550 or 4050. A 1/4" hose barb will also work for long range it is about a 0050 opening. -
Add burner/hot box for hot water
Paul Kassander replied to hpwasher's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
A separate unit/hot box is a good way to go it does offer some flexibility if you do have problems with one or the other. -
Wow thats a lot for a hotel!

Unloader Theory Pt2
Paul Kassander replied to 4running's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I don't think you have an unloader issue as the problem would be constant not just at start up. Like Russ said I see this fairly frequently on some older engines, once they warm up they are usually fine. -
Sorry to hear about that I am sure with some more hard work you can build it back up especially now with the things you have learned. It can slip away quickly, this is a good lesson for all never quit selling. We all get complacent at times and there is always some hungry young entrepreneur ready to take your place.

Wanting to add pressure washing to our services
Paul Kassander replied to Oxfordlawn's question in Residential Pressure Washing
For your market Ken is right you will more than likely need some bleach to use with your detergent.
