Hose Reel for Soap Hose
Paul Kassander replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
We have a 200' stainless steel reel on closeout for $175, I think there are 2 remaining. -
the length of the chemical hose really does not matter. If you are running long lengths of pressure hose going down a size on the injector will help. A larger flow trigger gun will help also. If you really want to suck soap though get the Super Suds Sucker, it will work on up to 400' of hose.

chem to clean painted tin barn walls
Paul Kassander replied to premiumpowerwash's topic in Chemicals & Safety
Whenever I clean a painted metal I use Emulsifier plus or Premier. I found them to work great on mold and mildew as well as removing built up oxidation on the surface. If the mold and mildew are bad you can add bleach to it to kill it. If the buildup is real bad keep the surface wet longer and give it the dwell time to soften the buildup this will make your job easier and faster. -
If you want to turn grease to liquid you will need heat. What you want the chemical to do is break down the surfactant in the grease and eliminate the 'stick' that it has, this will allow you to wash it from the surface. I have had excellent luck with zgreaser and powerstroke for heavy equipment applications.

The 12% really does nothing to 'clean' the house it just kills the mold and mildew. Your best bet is to mix it with a good house soap and apply that to the surface to clean it. You may want to come to the round table in Milwaukee in June, there will be a lot of people there that can help as well.

Keeping Restora in the stores
Paul Kassander replied to anthony szabo's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I spoke with Anthony the other day and he said it is a great product that holds up well but it is not for use on white siding. For some reason he said it yellows on white but not the other colors. -
Of course it is spring...I bet the box stores are busy selling their throw away units like crazy too. I probably get 3 calls a day for the small stuff with the response "well I can get one at store xxx for $300.00". My response, Yes you can and in 200 hours of use you can call me to buy one that will last...Most see an opportunity to get into a business cheap. It is a continual cycle, but it takes a special person to succeed in this business. You not only have to know how to wash, thats the easy part, but you have to know how to run a business. Sales, accounting, management...some will succeed and some will fail but rest assured every time the weather gets nice they will sprout up everywhere.

Equipment Expo Fall 2009
Paul Kassander replied to Paul Kassander's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I look forward to seeing you again Hugh, this event will be a lot of fun. Everyone will be able to learn a good amount of technical stuff about their equipment as well as learn how to use it in different ways. I think with the opportunity to touch feel and use all the different products out there it will answer a lot of questions people have about their equipment...Plus the networking opportunities. -
Thermal relief valves are designed for use in a pressure fed application in order to force the water out the opening when the internal thermostat opens (kind of like your car). In a closed loop system the water will heat up each time it passes through the pump due to friction. If you circulate a 1/2 gallon of water enough times it will get over 180 degrees easily damaging your pump. To eliminate this problem a longer bypass loop that holds more water helps or running your line back to the tank will do the trick.

Ever clean a garbage chute?
Paul Kassander replied to Robo_Spray's question in Residential Pressure Washing
Just be careful not to use too much, if any, bleach if the openings go to a living area, the smell can get overwhelming. -
what size pump can I run?
Paul Kassander replied to MPPainting's question in Residential Pressure Washing
You can put just about any size pump on that motor if you want. We have a TSF series general with a gear reduction drive on a 13 hp unit that does 10gpm @ 1400psi. Just determine which is more important to you and use the formula, gpm x psi /1100 = Gasoline engine HP required, to determine what you can achieve. Remember you can do anything below the specs of a pump but not more. -
aluminum siding questions
Paul Kassander replied to squeegeeboy's question in Residential Pressure Washing
I like Premier or Emulsifier Plus, they do a great job removing the oxidation and the Emulsifier Plus is bleach friendly. Thats what I use. -
aluminum siding questions
Paul Kassander replied to squeegeeboy's question in Residential Pressure Washing
The paint on the alum will oxidize and run off the surface when you clean. Depending on how bad the oxidation is you may get down to the bare metal, and there is nothing you can do to prevent this. When I see these situations I treat it the same way as Jeff, be sure the homeowner is aware of the situation and they may need to repaint. The advantage is if they do need to repaint the house is ready now that it is clean.:D I also have this on my quote for protection about not being responsible for loose, damaged or failing paint. -
Drain blocker for reclaim?
Paul Kassander replied to BREEN's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
I use drain seals that were designed to contain fuel spills. I have found them to be the most durable, long lasting and effective in preventing any water getting past. -
Extended Pressure Build-up
Paul Kassander replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
At a minimum you can get one rated higher and it will work just fine. -
Extended Pressure Build-up
Paul Kassander replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
Just about any unloader will work for you as long as it meets the pressure and flow rates of your pump. They run anywhere from $39 for a pulsar unloader to over $400 for a K9 unloader. For your unit the $39 unloader is a good choice, you can get them with a knob on them or change to a flow actuated unloder for a bit more $ but that may not be necessary for you, it just comes down to personal preference. -
Extended Pressure Build-up
Paul Kassander replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
If the unloader is "built in" on the pump then no. If it can be removed and changed then yes. If the unit has an external line like first pic that goes from the unloader to the inlet, that hose can be disconnected from the inlet (plug opening in inlet where it was) and run to the ground or tank. (the black hose that is opposite of the thermal relief valve-red barb on the unloader) If it has a control set unloader like second pic. then you will have to replace it with a standard unloder to bypass back to tank. -
Extended Pressure Build-up
Paul Kassander replied to rick77's topic in Tools, Equipment & Basic Maintenance
It will cause the water to get hot and damage the pump after about a min or so depending on the length (amount of water in) of the bypass (internal or external line). If it has a external bypass line you can run it back to your tank or to the ground and then you will not have to worry about it running in bypass any longer. -
We carry lengths up to 300'... However I agree with Chris, try to stay in the 50 and 100 foot lengths. Your price per foot will be a lot less and if it ever blows a 50' length is a lot less expensive. Usually you will only have the end section that wears too. The advantage of the ball valve is that it allows you to shut off flow and remove sections of hose or switch accessories without having to go back and shut off the machine.

They are helpful with the smaller size nozzle on the surface cleaner to prevent any clogging and help to prevent wear on the turbo nozzles should you have any small debris that makes it through your inlet filters.
